Stamford Hill in London

Nope :) There are few restaurants in Stamford Hill, unless you want to try Tasti Pizza (colloquially called tasteless pizza).

Shippudim Restaurant food

We went here last night for a bat mitzvah. http://www.jerusalem-insiders-guide.c...

If anyone wants authentic food this is the place to go- really delicious salads, pita, fries.

We were served a rice dish that consisted of white rice on the bottom and small WHITE beans on top in a tomato sauce. It literally looked like rice had been made and a can of baked beans poured on top. But, it wasn't.

Any idea what it was? Recipes?

Shopping in London as a native

Public transport isn't bad at all from Hampstead to Golders Green. AFAIK, St Johns Wood is not on the northern line, but Hampstead is (not sure what/ if st.john woods line is); the GG (golders green) train station isn't far from the kosher eateries in GG nor from Hendon. Even Edgware is on the Northern Line if you want to go further afield!
That said, if you won't have car, and it is important to you to be near kosher restaurants and bakeries I highly recommend you perhaps look into living in a more Jewish area. If I was to move to the UK now I would be looking at Finchley. Lovely traditional/modern orthodox community, very friendly, affluent, lovely high road with a couple of kosher eateries, walkable to Hendon, Tesco on main road etc... Let me know if you want my email or any
more help.

I am english. To the best of my knowledge there are no bakeries/ kosher shops in the areas you mentioned but if you are ok eating stuff with a vegetarian logo on it (some people are, but id check before serving it) you wont have a problem in any of the local bakeries.
Also, excellent Indian vegan/ veggie places. The bakeries, btw, are amazing. Each one is actually different tasting unlike the bakeries in the USA and Israel which i find all taste the same. The bakeries are in GG, Hendon etc. I should also tell you that Hampstead really isn't far from Golders Green and the drive is very easy. Born and bred in London, so feel free to ask me any questions!

London recommendations?

If you want a standard cafe, Orlis is in Finchley, Hendon, Edgware and I think Borehamwood; It is not bad.
-There is a restaurant called Kanteen in Brent Cross Shopping Center, also decent.
-Metsuyan is in Golders Green- have heard good things.
-Isola Bella moved to Golders Green- nice location.
Heard good thinks about the formerly known Novellino, then Bistro now...?.. on GG Road.
White House in Hendon (Brent St) has good Israeli food (same owners as Isola Bella).
If you want interesting pizza/ mllkshakes- pizzaza in Hendon or Golders Green is the go-to place.
There is also SoYo- same owners as Pizzaza which serves salads, froyo, pastas etc. GG Road too.

Pomodori -Crown Heights, Brooklyn, NY. Pizza Worth a Special Trip?

Google pomodori pizza crown heights and one should come up. Basil and pomodori are very different. pomodori= more family pizzeria style; basil more elegant.

URGENT need info NOW for Burger, org on Chestnut

This is a pretty moot point, but poodle your post makes no sense! You wanted them for dinner last night or tonight? If last night and it was too late to call, then how would they have taken your order? If tonight, why didn't you just call them when they opened? I am confused.

Shaloch Manot Ideas 2013

I saw this on a different website forum. Not pirate related, but cool none the less:
Money rolls and Cliff bars. The theme? Drum roll... fiscal cliff!

Another version: candy in pill boxes and Cliff bars and dress up as doctors. This is for physical Cliff.

Another must-have in my ex-patriate household is the New Complete International Jewish cookbook by Evelyn Rose. No pictures just 600+pages of beautiful recipes.

That stupid technique of giving the rice 'spa treatment' still gives me nightmares... what a waste of kleenex viva ;)

I cannot find a link to the actual book, but here is some info:

TG you wrote this.. I was starting to doubt my cooking/ recipe following abilities after making her rice with tadig and having it be a disaster. Her cookbook was simply not good.
I dont see where I said I dont like Plenty? I do like it, however, all the recipes in the book can be found on The Guardian UK newspaper site for free.
BTW-another great coffee table cookbook is Taste from Yeshiva of Flatbush. Interesting recipes too.

favorite specifically kosher cookbooks?

i am a cookbookaholic; i own a ton of vegetarian ones, ottolonghi's "Plenty" , a bunch of Annabel Karmel books and other assorted random ones but I am ashamed to say I really like my 'kosher' cookbooks best. I have the whole KBD series (except cooking coach which has had mixed reviews); kosher palette 1 (i dont like the 2nd one); the 2 quick n koshers (the second one was terrible imvho); dining in- both; What's cooking (a total fave); Persian food from nonpersian bride (waste of time); bais yaakov, Dash, Temptations (from keter torah in teaneck); spice and spirit and other smaller less well-known ones.. I have been on a self-induced no buying trend but now I think I'm ready to re-indulge!
Any kosher ones you recommend? I am interested in reviews too, on CHIC; Fresh N Easy; (Gil Marks) Olive trees n Honey; Aromas of Alpeppo.. and cause i'm curious- any reviews on KBD Cooking Coach?

yeast...

i always proof my yeast even though i know you dont need to; neither red star regular or fleishmans bubbles when proofed with sugar- hodgson mills bubbles tremendously. While i am not sure the bubbling really is a sign that a particular brand of dried yeast is truly more active than the other, the rising is definitely better on the hodgson mills yeast.

yeast...

i make lots of products with yeast (challa, bread, pizza etc). I tried redstar platinum but actually my best results are with hodgson mills even though i use exclusively white flour. does anyone else have a fave yeast?
