kosher restaurant jezebel to open in nyc

Looking forward to seeing a menu!

Faux Meat - Recommendations

Tivall is not vegan because it contains eggs (or at least egg-based product). It does not contain any dairy though.

Faux Meat - Recommendations

TIVALL, TIVALL, TIVALL--- Buy from a Kosher store (only sold in Kosher stores). Amazing stuff!

Cauliflower for Shabbat Lunch

Yup. Pink cover. Good recipe, but if you like stuff less bland, I recommend using more spices than she calls for.

Cauliflower for Shabbat Lunch

It is KBD Entertains I believe.

AdinaA-- Blue eggs :)

ITA!!! ITA!!
There is little more annoying than needing an egg, having one left and having it contain a non-removable bloodspot... and for me, since I pay upwards of $3.50 a dozen, with blood-spotted brown eggs the cost is certainly monetary too, hence at Pesach I buy my eggs exclusively in WF since they are the only one with white humane certified eggs.

Boro Park restaurants open late?

I cannot be sure but I believe there is a good chance Amnons pizza will still be open.

AdinaA-- Blue eggs :)

It is to do with the 'candeling' procedure. Many times they check the eggs before putting them into shells as non-Kashrut observing folk also do not like having blood spots in their eggs. The brown shells are thicker and darker pigmented so it is harder to see inside the shell.

If you are interested in regular humane certified White eggs (also delicious!) Whole Foods sells white Nellies Nest eggs-- yummy too!

even my DH who doesn't care one whit for humane certified vs. regular eggs agrees that humane certified eggs have a fresher and better taste to them.

AdinaA-- Blue eggs :)

Adina- I just noticed the other post and you said you wanted blue eggs I think (?).

As I am a devoted humane certified egg eater, I LOVE pete and gerry's eggs, but they always had so many blood spots. I fondly remembered the 'blue' Cotswold Legbar eggs from my English childhood, but none were available here... UNTIL- one fine day I wandered into Whole Foods and found these:

They are delicious eggs, humane certified and fresh tasting! Highly recommend!

Looking for an Israeli style toast....

Actually, I am not sure who it was but either cappucino or cheesecake17 (i think??) said Panini cafe was their fave dairy destination in the US, so I am excited to go to LV for that very reason!

zsero- did Amazon cafe close down? i looked it up yesterday but the website was down and it had closed next to it on yelp.

The Sunflower cafe rec and Hadar cafe are great recommendations- Thanks all!

Looking for an Israeli style toast....

Like this http://paninicafelv.com/menu7.html Any idea where I can get one in NYC/Brooklyn- I am not looking for a regular panini- I am looking for it on a jerusalem bagel (large, round bread with sesame seeds).

Veggie Patch (again)

If only... if only ;)

Vegetarian and Vegan Cookbooks

I love 'The Concious Cook' (vegan). Lots of good recipes but focusses a lot on using gardein products.

Veggie Patch (again)

I cannot understand why these are not Kosher. According to the Tivall website, Tivall now owns Veggie Patch. How difficult would it be for them to slap hashgacha on it? This is so frustrating!

Best Vegetarian products:

My absolute favorite products are Tivall. They are currently only sold in Kosher stores and contain eggs (so not vegan) but they have breaded 'chicken' nuggets and pieces, hot dogs (my personal fave) and burgers. IMVHO Morning Star does not hold a candle to these items.

Most interesting find this Pesach?

these are exactly the ones i am talking about :)

Most interesting find this Pesach?

And of course, the Gefen tomato paste is totally tasteless whereas the Israeli stuff has a terrific flavor.
Also, again could just be my area, the stores grossly underestimated what people would buy. My Shoprite was totally sold out of chips, candy and other snack foods by C'H, as was my local Kosher market and other Shoprites and stores we tried on the way upstate to DH's family.

Most interesting find this Pesach?

I honestly thought the selection of Pesach goods this year were terrible compared to last year. A lot less Israeli goods (for example, i try not to use canned goods because of BPA- last year I bought Israeli tomato paste in a red plastic BPA-free container-- this year went to four stores and could not find it), a lot less international goods and just a dissapointing selection. Mind you, last year I shopped at Rockland Kosher and this year was the Kollel store, so perhaps that had an impact? Not sure.

Passover birthday cake. Not chocolate flour less

Saw this on a Pesach Recipe board from Mispacha Magazine- There is a frosting, but I don't have it yet:

1 tsp baking soda
half tsp vinegar
5 eggs
1 and half cups sugar
1 cup oil
1 tsp vanilla
half cup cocoa powder
pinch coffee
3/4 cup potato starch
Preheat oven to 350
In a small bol, combine the baking soda and vinegar.Set aside
Place remaining ingredients in the bowl of your mixer. Add vinegar mixture. Beat untill well combined. Pour into a greased 9x13inch baking pan or 2 9inch round pans
Bake for 35-40minor intil toothpick inserted in center of cake comes out clean.

Passover Oil

I bought Hollywood Safflower oil too. I really like the taste of it. The cottonseed stuff looks disgusting.

pesach in Israel

eluna.com should have all the info you need.

Tokyo Hibachi in Springfield, NJ

we have some favorites and some thing my DH wont touch. Stay away from the bourbon chicken and teriyaki chicken sticks.
He recommends the sweet n sour chicken and/ or general tzo's.

dad need recipes

my chef husband taught me that... trick of the trade maybe ;)

dad need recipes

Quesadillas! Take 2 flour wraps and fill with whatever you like (at my house we use cheese, mushrooms and onions)- but really anything goes as long as there is cheese to hold it together. Spray with oil on top and bottom.
Put inside a panini press/ sandwich maker/ in between two cookie sheets (one under the wraps, one on top to weigh it down) and you have a delicious and easy dinner!

KLP mock chopped liver

funny you ask-- this was posted today!

how do you make a vegan nutroast with no egg to bind?

Lakewood...

hey queens- no, i am equidistance between lakewood and brooklyn (elizabeth area) so the tolls alone are $22 into brooklyn. If significantly cheaper though, i guess i would pay the tolls.

Adina- you clearly have no english roots ;) In the UK it is a brand of custard; granted I am not sure if Rockcat is referring to custard though.

I like that- Adina, maybe you can invite all you CH friends?

Lakewood...

Instead of making the yearly Pesach stock up trip to either Rockland Kosher or someplace in Brooklyn, we are thinking of going to Lakewood in search of cheaper Pesach necessities... What is the selection like? Is there any place known for really good quality items (chicken, meat etc)? are the prices comparable to Monsey and Brooklyn?

Thanks!!
