Iceland, Istanbul, New Mexico or... Plainfield NH?

While I've never stayed there (too close to home for me...) I've had several excellent meals at Home Hill Inn. They are doing particularly well with their in-house charcuterie now.

You can read my review from last month's visit: http://offbeateats.org/2012/04/home-hill-inn-redux/

chowin' from Manchester, NH to Norwich, VT

I'll second Yama, both locations (West Lebanon and Hanover) have great food.

If you're in Norwich, consider checking out the Norwich Inn, and if you are into beer, their brewpub (Jasper Murdock's) is quite good as well.

If you are looking for a breakfast or lunch, I highly recommend Tuckerbox in White River Junction, VT.

Once you get past the Concord turnoff, however, there's very little until you hit Lebanon, NH.

Favorite coffee spots - NH

Tuckerbox is also home to one of the very best BLTs in existence.

Republic Cafe in Manchester, NH

The tagine is what I had on my visit. Between that and the fries I really enjoyed Republic, and hope to go back sometime soon.

(I did a writeup here: http://offbeateats.org/2011/09/republic-cafe-manchester-nh/ )

Mexican groceries in Vermont?

Have you checked Onion River Coop? I think they've got a decent selection of dried peppers in bulk.

lunch in dartmouth, nh

Hanover Inn isn't a good option at the moment, since the Inn is closed through ~May for renovations.

For in-town upscale lunch? Canoe Club is probably the best option.

Farmers Diner, VT

Thanks for the update. Farmers Diner has had a very up-and-down history in the last few years, including being shuttered for a while last year due to financial issues. There was a management shakeup before it reopened, I was hoping things had improved....

Myself, I went to Dana's this weekend. :)

Stowe/Waterbury bars and restaurants

Mostly I do beer places in Stowe, so I like the Trappe Family Lodge, and Ye Olde English Inne (4 beer engines, and 25 taps!)

Where to buy dried chiles (ancho) in Burlington, Vermont????

I've bought them at Onion River Coop before...

Lebanon, NH Area- 2 Nights

Gusanoz is the place you are thinking of, pretty much the only vaguely real Mexican place around here. Which I rather like the food there, but I've had so many tragically bad service experiences there that I tend not to go there unless I'm really craving something like Carnitas (which they do rather well, actually). And I've completely given up trying to ever go there during lunch, since I can't afford a 2 hour lunch.

Odd owners, though. Instead of focusing on what they do well and fixing the service problems, they come up with some odd ideas (running an ice cream store, selling In-n-Out knockoff burgers out of the back of the restaurant, etc....).

Ramunto's Pizza coming to Keene, NH- sad to see a chain, but curious about how it is?

Yeah, I'm definitely not a fan of most area pizza places, but the various Ramunto's seem to do a decent enough job (the Hanover "Brick and Brew" one is only tangentially related to the others, BTW), and they all seem to have decent tap beer selections as well.

Ramunto's Pizza coming to Keene, NH- sad to see a chain, but curious about how it is?

My only gripe with the Claremont location is that it's table-service only. I used to be able to go in for quick slices before a movie, but now I usually have to commit to being there for 45 minutes.

Lebanon, NH Area- 2 Nights

I'll have to say that White Birch has made some interesting and good brews, and some terrible ones as well. They don't seem to have decent quality control in place yet.

Lebanon, NH Area- 2 Nights

Norwich Inn/Jasper Murdoch's Alehouse up in Norwich, VT is my recommendation. Nice craft beer, and the pub is nicely laid back (the dining is pretty formal, though).

Seven Barrel has decent beer, but the food is on the, umm, grittier end of pub grub.

Sugar Hill NH--recs?

Yeah, I actually really like Polly's, but the prices are indeed high.

Like Phideaux says, avoid Dutch Treat.

HANOVER, NEW HAMPSHIRE RESTAURANT RECOS?

Tip Top is rather good, and the same folks run Tuckerbox down the street, which has my favorite BLT.

Local Meat/Smokehouse in the Upper Valley

They've occasionally been at the Norwich and Lebanon farmers markets as well. I like Cloudland's beef.

Homemade corned beef hash in Nashua, NH?

Oddly, I've never tried the CBH at Belmont Hall. I keep meaning to, but usually I end up with something else that intrigues me more. Like the pulled pork hashbrowns (http://www.flickr.com/photos/kaszeta/409897772/)

Homemade corned beef hash in Nashua, NH?

If Red Arrow's is homemade, it certainly resembles the canned stuff (I've seen this at a lot of places to go to the effort of making their own hash, but resulting in something almost indistinguishable from the canned stuff)

Chinese in Upper Valley? (Hanover NH area)

I'll agree with greenstate, there's nothing terribly good here for Chinese food. Orient is probably the least disagreeable

Manchester, NH

Heh, add me to the list of people that really hate air fresheners like that.

And I'll also paraphrase Tony Bourdain, who said something similar to "The bathroom is easier to clean than most everything in the kitchen. If they bathroom's nasty, you probably don't want to see the kitchen."

(I really like Cotton, however)

Vermont? White River Junction/Lebanon(NH) to Stowe

I'll second the recommendation for Tuckerbox, they make one of the best BLT's I've ever had...

Farmers Diner, VT

I'd have to hear that things changed, a *lot*, for the better, since my last trip to the Farmers Diner in Spring 2009 (when I got talked into trying them again by some visiting relatives), since the service was that bad. Sorry but if I get bad service (the last time being outright hostile) in four visits over three years, something is terribly, terribly wrong there.

Help: Fatback in NH

Have you asked your grocery store? The butcher in mine can order it, I don't know the price, however.

Manchester, NH

HAve you been to Gauchos recently? I went when they moved to Lowell St and it was good. I went last year and it was terrible. I'm wondering if they've got their A game back.

Manchester, NH

I rather liked my trip to Momo, although it was pricey. The food was definitely more spicy than your typical New England ethnic place, and the owner was really nice.

And the Brown Guy special was really good.

Local Meat/Smokehouse in the Upper Valley

Vermont Smoke and Cure (Barre, VT) and Garfields (Meriden, NH) are two of my favorites.

North Country Smokehouse in Claremont does a really good product as well, but I don't know how "local" the meat is.

Milk: McNamara Dairy in Plainfield.

(New to the area?)

Prov, RI foodies

ProvidencePalate.com is a pretty decent resource for this.

Unpasteurized Cider in Vermont?

It may be a bit of a haul for you, but Poverty Lane Orchards in Lebanon, NH usually has raw cider (I often get it for brewing my own hard cider)

MA eats..where would you send Guy Fieri

Yeah, I've been to a shockingly large number of places GF has visited on DDD (around 20% last time I tallied it up, I travel a lot!), and for my tastes and preferences, he bats around 50%. About half the places I love. About a quarter the places I wonder what the heck he saw in them. And the rest of the places were good but nothing special.

But, to each their own. :)
