Kobe/Wagyu in Dallas

LTW - The following restaurants serve Wagyu in Dallas -

Nobu, Little Katana Tei Tei Robato Bar, Teppo Yakitori & Sushi Bar

Who's Who Burgers- Upscale burgers (obviously) in a very trendy, expensive and exclusive shopping center.

Chamberlains' Steakhouse, The Mansion on Turtle Creek (used to serve it but they have changed menu's and chefs), The Palm and the Mandaley at the the Omni Las Colinas.

I am sure there are others but these are the ones I readily found and would recommend for your dining.

The Great Sardine Taste-off – the Spanish Saga (cans 40-49)

I found the Bela-Olhao at my Central Market! WOW!!!! I have tried all three varieties of them - EVOO, Lemon and Cayenne. They are all so good. My boyfriend thought I was out of my mind but decided to try just a little bit. He has now seen the light! ;-)

Great Greek Food in Dallas?

I was wondering where the best Greek food in Dallas could be found? I often have a hankering for this but don't always have the time to make it myself. Does anyone have any recommendations?

best thai in dallas?

Simply Victoria, Where is Noodlewave? I work near Thai Soon and had been a devotee for many years when they were down on Greenville. I have not been impressed since the move. They are very inconsistent. I was embarrassed when I took a group of 8 in from the office after bragging about them and then were served stale corn cakes.

WHICH ANEJO TEQUILA IS BEST FOR SIPPING?

Hungrylawyer - THANK YOU SO MUCH for the education on Tequila. I will try those that you name here. Your comments on the shortage of juice resulting in the variability on the quality explain my lack of ability to find THE one good tequila.

Any REALLY obscure food that you know about, that others probably don't?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Casu_Marzu I think this must be what you are thinking of Velma. I don't think its something I want to try and clearly one of the most strange foods I have seen on this post so far. Apparently they are still making this. I presume this to be an acquired taste.. but not for me.

Jalapenos

Oh.. since its Dove season, I take a stemmed and seeded jalapeno, stuff it with some Mexican cheese, wrap the dove breast around it, take a slice of applewood smoked bacon and wrap around the whole thing and secure with a toothpick. These can be tossed on the grill with your favorite bbq sauce (or not) or baked in the oven. Tasty bits for before dinner. ENJOY....

Jalapenos

As with all peppers, you can put them in eggs/omelets, slice them and put them in stews, puree them and add a bit to your pestos for a bit of a bite (I make a cilantro and jalapeno pesto with pecans that is quite good). You can chop finely and put in biscuits with some cheddar cheese and scallions. I put them in with braised lamb shanks or pot roast. Of course you have the recipes for pickling and pico de gallo above. I am a 6th generation Texan and they are part of our daily consumption - or mine at least. Enjoy!

The Great Sardine Taste-off – the Spanish Saga (cans 40-49)

I will have to check my Whole Foods for the sardines. I looked on the BELA website and the only places in Texas are Austin and Houston at stores I did not recognize. I am in Dallas so maybe a road trip is in order.

I got out the pictures from the trip to Portugal since my post above and enjoyed them. A grand way to start a Sunday morning! Thanks again. Vinho verde works well for many things.. fizzy, fresh and cool!

Have a fabulous weekend!

Re: Camel Urine -

http://www.nationalgeographic.com/adv...

In the book, Riley describes being so thirsty that he is driven to drink camel urine. Did you get a chance to try camel urine yourself?

I did not taste camel urine, but I did inquire about it. One of my guides was quite loquacious on the topic and said that yes, indeed, they do drink camel urine on occasion, particularly the urine of a pregnant camel because it has certain nutrients and is believed to help cure stomach ailments and mouth sores. And, of course, if you're dying of thirst you will drink any kind of camel urine. The fact that Riley reported that the nomads preferred camel urine to their own was somewhat shocking, but once you get over there, you find out that it's not that uncommon.

Identify this pan dulce, por favor

RW - Empanadas can also be savory, stuffed with eggs, sausage and the like for breakfast or with meats for other meals. I have had empanadas in Brazil prepared like this. I don't know if they were borrowed from Mexico or vice-versa.

Another interesting topic!

The Great Sardine Taste-off – the Spanish Saga (cans 40-49)

WOW is right! This makes me hungry for the yummy right off the boat fried sardines that we enjoyed in the Algarve with vinho verde! You can order the BELA-Olhão on line at http://www.mybela.com/. I will have to try the boquerones. RW, thanks for bringing back wonderful memories of both food and friends. I look forward to your next report on whatever!

WHICH ANEJO TEQUILA IS BEST FOR SIPPING?

Tres Generaciones or Lapis! They both rock. Or Don Eduardo. Patron is over priced and if you ask about it in Mexico.. no one there drinks it. Apparently it is for us gringos. LOL. Enjoy. You all made me thirsty for some Lapis.

Best Dallas Food Tip

snatex, I love it! The Brackets. But what makes the winner of each? Can you give us some hints as to why one restaurant was chosen over the other? Keep us posted and I have bookmarked your brackets so I can keep track of the winner. Good eating!
