Where to dine/celebrate after my City Hall wedding?

Thanks, it was a lovely evening, service was attentive, and we were stuffed.

We also looked into the Harrison, which may also suit you. It's a little more expensive.

Where to dine/celebrate after my City Hall wedding?

Congratulations on your upcoming nuptials!

We booked the private room at Market Table on Carmine for our 10-guest wedding this January (it holds 20 max). There were some good standards (great hush puppies, lamb chops, a sangria-marinated steak, butterscotch pudding).

I think Billy's (9th between 20th and 21st) has icebox cake.

WASP-y recipes for Badminton picnic outing

Sincere apologies for taking this discussion into juvenile territory. To atone, I will offer some more useful suggestions:

Crab salad
Sidecars (1 1/2 oz brandy, 1/2 oz Triple Sec, 1/2 oz lemon or lime Juice)

And, if this is at all possible, a clambake.

Martinis.

And whatever food you bring, make sure that there isn't quite enough to feed everyone.

Gift Ingredients

Wow, thanks for the great ideas. A theme/ethnic centered box would be a great idea.

Gift Ingredients

I'd like to send a gift package to some lovely people in a rural part of the Midwest who hosted us this weekend. They love to cook and are open to all cuisines, but don't have access to ingredients. I'd love some suggestions for things that I can send in the mail. Thanks!

Grand Sichuan on 7th Ave, W Village

Has anyone tried the new Grand Sichuan on lower 7th Ave, yet?

ditch plains for dinner?

Thanks everyone! Very divided opinions on it. Should be an interesting night.

By the way, is there a long wait for tables?

ditch plains for dinner?

We're thinking of going Friday around 7:30 with a group of 5. Is it crowded? And what's your favorite dish there? Thanks!

Red Lentils in NYC

Ah, I see. I was at the Chelsea location of the Westside market. Maybe that's why.

Red Lentils in NYC

I thought I saw some red lentils in Westside market (7th Ave?). They were in the pasta aisle. I think they were that blue Arrowhead Mills brand.

Alice Medrich's Lowfat Chocolate book-which recipes are good to make?

I just made these Alice Medrich cookies (not sure if they're in your books). They are cakey and rich and not overly sweet.

Unusual Icebox Cookies?

Great idea! I should start a few cookie logs for my freezer, too.

Here's a recipe for Earl Grey icebox cookies. I've also used Jasmine tea:

Heh heh, yes it kinda looks like a Starbucks. But it doesn't smell like one (overpoweringly of coffee, that is).

Aki on West 4th

Thanks! Good to know.

Aki on West 4th

Hiya,

What's the noise level like at Aki?
Do they take reservations and do I need one?

I'm thinking of taking a visiting older (and crotchety) relative. Would this place be appropriate?

new West Village Indian restaurant

Stumbled across a place called Karahi last night. According to the owner, it had been open for a few months. Excellent quality and obviously cooked with care--the food was very fresh and the sauces were homemade.

The BF ordered samosas, which I generally avoid because they're inevitably oily as hell, and heavy. But these were light and crisp. We also had a good chicken tikka masala and a rich vegetable dish (the name escapes me--something with cream). It was also clean and quiet. Maybe a little too quiet--I really hope business picks up because finding a reasonably priced restaurant in the neighborhood (let alone an Indian place!) is getting to be a problem nowadays.

Oh yeah, Christopher St, between Bleecker and Hudson.

instant yeast

Gourmet Garage on 7th Ave in Manhattan has some right now. There are a few GGs in the city, so maybe the other branches have it, too.

New City Bakery?

They're opening one (actually, it's a Birdbath) on the corner of Charles and 7th Ave in the West Village.

AOC Bedford, Blue Ribbon Bakery, or something else tonight?

Thanks all, I appreciate the replies. We ended up going to Blue Ribbon Bakery and my out-of-town friend enjoyed the food.

We shared a camembert with honey (the honey was delicious), some beets (the vinaigrette was too sweet). She had the fried chicken and I had the trout with green beans, bacon, and mushroom (nicely balanced flavors on the trout). It leans towards the hearty, rustic end of the spectrum, but it's what my friend prefers. And, of course, we had the bread pudding.

Good, attentive service, but obnoxious, loud patrons; the people at the next table were hollering--real shouting--and one of the other customers actually yelled "shut up."

I agree, kaye, the pricing is pretty steep for fried chicken and other bistro standards, but they food is consistent and I've always received knowledgeable, accomodating service.

AOC Bedford, Blue Ribbon Bakery, or something else tonight?

Hi all, a friend's in town. She loved Little Owl and was hoping for a similar price or ambiance. I was thinking something in the Downing/Bedford restaurant nexis, but I'm not sure. Any suggestions or votes would be appreciated. Thanks!

Cooking with the tea?

Hi, like Taiwanese tea eggs? Hard boil some eggs, then gently crack the shells (but don't peel). Lower eggs a pot of water, brewed tea, soy sauce and star anise. Simmer for a couple of hours. The eggs will have absorbed the flavors and color nicely.

Also, Apt Therapy has a recipe for cookies made with tea:
