Do you drink Wawa coffee?
Normally I make my coffee at home but in a pinch I would pick Wawa over SB (roasted too dark) and DD (not dark enough).
Famous 4th St. Deli on 19th St.
I keep forgetting to go to the new location. Thanks for the reminder.
Restaurants Near Academy of Music
I agree that Estia is a lovely restaurant, a perfect place for a celebration. I have also had some good meals at Upstairs at Varelli and Sotto Varelli but not on the level of Estia.

Parents coming to Philly to visit
The last time my parents came to the city I took them to Upstares at Varelli's at 231 S Broad Street. It was nice to walk along the Avenue of the Arts and the restaurant itself has a great view. The food and service were very nice.
What to eat at Xochitl?
Thanks for the information. I think this is going to be a great night out. My only concern is that I hate cilantro and I am afraid it is going to be in many of the dishes.
What to eat at Xochitl?
Night out with the girls next weekend. Need some recommendations of dishes to order at Xochitl. Thanks in advance.
Best place in Philly to take Dad
I know you are looking for a place for dinner but I want to mention The Good Dog has great burgers.
Succulent fried chicken?
I went looking in the Reading Terminal Market after reading your comments and the place is called Tootsie's Salad Express. The fried chicken is really good. Thanks for the tip.
Succulent fried chicken?
I had some from Whole foods last weekend that was pretty good. I am always on the lookout for good fried chicken most of the time I go to the Crown Chicken at 40th and Market but there are plenty of other locations in the city. The chicken is tasty skip the sides.
Confused...don't Philadelphians like brunch?
I just had a great brunch meal at Marigold Kitchen. Everyone in our party was very happy with the food that was more upscale versions of familiar brunch items. Also, the prices are very reasonable.
Soft Shell Crabs - Phila
Marigold Kitchen has them on the menu for a special cookbook author dinner on June 16th but I do not see them on their everyday menu
Swanky Bubbles
We have a girls night out about once a quarter at a high end restaurant. Food is paramount but we also want to have fun. Swanky Bubbles looks fun but how is the food?
What to eat at Tria?
I am meeting a friend in the late afternoon at Tria. The main focus will be the beer and wine but what to eat?
Bent Elbo near bluebell, anyone been?
I went there for a few work parties and the food was terrible.
Inexpensive but decent wine from Penna State Store
After doing a little research on wines in a box, I tried Seeberger Riesling and I think it is a nice white wine to have in the frig. The box stays fresh for about a month but I always manage to get through the box before the time is up.
My weekend in Philly - Osteria, Matyson and Dim Sum Garden
I often pick up dinner at Dim Sum Garden on my way home from work. I love the bok choy and the pork meatballs and the duck with noodles, dry.
Chinese for Christmas Eve?
A couple of years ago I went to Lee How Fook at 219, N 11 street in Chinatown and the place was packed. Well worth the trip. Here is the number if you want to make sure they will be open: 215-925-7266

Help! James, Gayle, BPerrier, Marigold, Lacroix...?
Two friends and I ate at Gayle last night. The food was really special. Really wonderful flavors and beautiful presentations. I thought the menu was a bit deceiving in that I could not tell what a dish would look or taste like from reading the menu. The wait staff did answer our questions but we were still surprised (pleasantly so) by what showed up on our plates. We did have a few problems with the service. They mixed up our first course order, bringing one of us the wrong dish. We had a hint that they were confused because they came back to check but asked the wrong person what they had ordered. Then we had an extremely long wait between the first course and the entree. Perhaps it is standard because no one said a word. Lastly, the coffee was not hot. When I asked for a fresh cup, it took at least 10 minutes to arrive. They did not charge us for the coffee which was nice but my last impression of Gayle was not a good one. The service lapses were not enough to spoil the meal but I could not recommend this restaurant to a few of my friends who are really picky about service.
Help! James, Gayle, BPerrier, Marigold, Lacroix...?
I am going to Gayle tonight so I will have something to report tomorrow:)
Restaurant Week Reviews, lets hear 'em
3 of us went to Meritage. We had the potato leek soup (the best) and tuna tartare (very good) for first courses, roasted chicken which was moist and crispy and salmon for main course, and banana bread pudding and a chocolate tart for dessert. Everyone enjoyed their meals, we found a tasty and reasonably priced pinot noir on the extensive wine list and the atmosphere was cosy and friendly. I would definitely go back.
Earlier in the week I went with 2 other friends to Bistro 7. We had the lentil soup and a complicated and pretty salad with a romaine, radicchio, and apples with gorgonzola dressing and spice-toasted walnuts for first courses, salmon with mushroom risotto and pork with spicy mashed sweet potatoes for main courses and pot de creme and a fancy rice pudding for dessert. Overall the meal was nice but not over the top. Bistro 7 has a 4 course tasting menu for 35 dollars but I would not rush to go back there again with so many other BYOB's doing similar food in more exciting ways.
Where to buy Honeycrisp apples
I am so glad to see so many responses. I did not eat many apples until someone gave me a honeycrisp and they have really upped my fresh fruit intake. I am going back to Sues and I am going to buy one of each of the apples mentioned here to see which one hits the spot. Thanks!
Best salads?
I agree, a nice, fresh salad which makes me feel a little less guilty about ordering the good dog burger.
Where to buy Honeycrisp apples
I went to Sue's Produce today to buy my favorite apple but they were out of honeycrisps. I asked what would be a good replacement but was told there is nothing comparable. So my questions are are there any honeycrisps still around in the Philadelphia area or do I have to wait until next fall and what other apples are as sweet and crisp as the honeycrisp?
Good Chinese Food?
Because of all of th glowing comments in the thread I decided to stop by Shaou Lan Kung for a late lunch but was surprised to see they do not open until 3:30. I will have to try them the next time I am in that area.
Strongbow Cider in Cans by the Case?
The Good Dog at 224 15 Street also has in cans. I do not know where to buy it by the case.
tourist review: white dog, good dog, now a happy hound
I love the good dog burger! I am not really a bar person and the music can get pretty loud in there but I keep going back for the burgers (and the friendly service).
home meal delivery
I had been ordering meals 3 or 4 days a week from manna catering but they have decided to discontinue the service. Anyone know of a daily meal delivery service in philadelphia?
