Bumping this thread for 2012...any King Cake sightings yet in SF or Marin? I know Arizmendi will be selling them this weekend. Any others?

King Cake in SF or Marin?

Thank you for the rec casalbore spirit...my BF had to be in San Jose yesterday for business so he stopped by Cosentino's to pick up a King Cake (the $ 6.99 version). I agree with bayareatiger...it was very good! Lovely too, decorated with beads, doubloons, etc. Thanks again!

King Cake in SF or Marin?

Does anyone know where I might find a traditional Mardi Gras King Cake in either SF or Marin? Ordering online from New Orleans is pretty expensive. Thanks in advance for your help!

Sausalito

I would recommend Fish, Paradise Bay, or Horizons, in that order.

Mardi Gras food - organic Hurricanes, donuts & king cakes

rworange...thanks for posting the info for King Cakes at La Fayette in San Rafael. I was going to post asking where to get a King Cafe in Marin when I saw your post. I just ordered one. Thanks again!

looking for the best fries...

Another vote for Eccolo. I had them for the first time a few weeks ago while lunching there with my Mom. We split the burger, a salad, and the fries. We were in heaven...

Creamed spinach

i agree! we made this for the first time yesterday for x-mas dinner as a side dish to go with our prime rib. it was delicious and a big hit with everyone.

The downside of fried turkey

We have done both a fried turkey and roast turkey for the last few years at Thanksgiving. Fried turkey is absolutely delicious. The only downside (if it can even be considered a downside) to the fried turkey is that in my opinion it tastes better the day of than it does the following days. We prefer the roast turkey leftovers....

Sushi lunch options in the Cow Hollow/Union Street area?

Thanks shortexact,
I'll report back if we end up going there tomorrow!

Sushi lunch options in the Cow Hollow/Union Street area?

Thanks Lori,
Unfortunately, I won't be able to travel to any of those neighborhoods tomorrow. I loved Grandeho's back when I lived in the Haight years ago. Nice to hear it's still good!

Sushi lunch options in the Cow Hollow/Union Street area?

I'm looking for some good sushi (rolls and nigiri) in the Cow Hollow/Union Street area. Someplace that's open for lunch. Thanks in advance for your help.

Your All-Time Favorite Place To Eat???.....

I'm with you on Brigtsen's! I love everything about it. Unfortunately we only go once a year when we visit during jazzfest (from SF).

T-Rex: pleasant surprise

The BF is a big guy with a big appetite (hence him ordering the full rack). I did have one rib to taste and it was delicious. We ended up bringing some of my brisket home as I had split a burger earlier that day with my Mom at Cafe Rouge so was on red meat overload).

T-Rex: pleasant surprise

My BF and I were at T-Rex on Friday evening also! It was our first time and I too was hesitant because of the reviews I had read on this board.

We ordered the mixed lettuce salad as a starter, full rack of baby backs & brisket for our mains (spicy sauce), and cornbread, baked beans, and greens for our sides. We loved everything except for the greens. We didn't have any service issues.

We live in Marin & don't make it out to Berkeley very often (we tend to eat out more in SF) but will be back for sure.

Scott Howard tonight. Any recommendations?

I highly recommend the carrot broth, it's amazing.

Lunch recs for today near Clement/4th?

Thanks Sebby and Maya! My friend & I ended up going to Troya and loved it. We shared 3 mezes spreads (hummus, yogurt, and a red pepper/tomato), the fallafel, and a greek salad. Everything was delicious and very reasonably priced. I'll definately be back.

Thanks Maya, I forgot to mention that i've also been to Burma Superstar. I've never heard of Troya so I did a search on it and it sounds really good!

Lunch recs for today near Clement/4th?

I'm meeting a friend for lunch today and was wondering what recommendations you all had for good thai or vietnamese food around Clement & 4th. I've been to King of Thai but am wondering about other possible options. Thanks in advance for your help!

Anyone been to Scott Howard lately?

We all enjoyed it very much. We arrived about 15 minutes early for our 8pm reservation. We sat in the bar and had a pre dinner cocktail (altho the restaurant was only about 1/3 full so we could have sat down right away at our table).

We had 6 starters among the 4 of us: butter lettuce salad, carrot broth, hamachi, pasta with duck confit, heirloom tomato salad, and a foie gras dish. They were all delicious, altho the standouts were the carrot broth and the pasta.

For mains, 2 of us had the halibut, one had the short ribs (which should have been called short rib since there was only one) and a beef with foie gras dish. We also ordered a couple of side dishes (truffle mashes potatoes, corn w/ shitake mushrooms, and a bean and fennel dish. They were all delicious.

We were so full by this time that we only ordered one dessert to share among the 4 of us, the warm chocolate cake. Just to have a bite of something sweet. Very good but not mind blowing.

The atmosphere there is lovely, warm and inviting. The service was fine, not overly attentive, but we never felt ignored either. I would not necessarily rush back but would return to bring out of town guests.

The bill for 4 pre dinner cocktails, 2 bottles of wine, 2 glasses of sauternes, 2 glasses of port, 6 starters, 4 mains, 3 sides, and 1 dessert came to $ 490 before tip.

If so, how was your experience and what would you recommend ordering? The last post I found was from 2 months ago. 4 of us are going tonite for the first time.

Thanks!
