North Bank Ned's Profile

Anyone been to Spur Tree Lounge, Barola, Il Posto Accanto?

Ate at Spur Tree for first time last night. Impressed by food, though you have to like jerk sauce. We ate Jerk Salmon and Jerk Lamb Chops as mains. Both good by any standard and exceptional for the price (neither main more than $15). Truffle oil french fries could become habit forming. Atmosphere is laid back and friendly by Lower East Side standards. Place is small, 20-25 covers perhaps and half of it is taken up by the bar. No liquor license. Cocktails are made with soju, but wine and beer inexpensive. Music heavily Jamaican; DJ at weekends. Definitely worth a second visit to try the oxtail stew, a signature dish, I'm told, and some more of the seafood mains.

binghamton-- need lunch and dinner recs

Cortese
Italian on Robinson St.. Menu much as to be expected for a 50-year old family run Italian restaurant but can't fault the food (perfectly cooked veal) or service. (Wasn't too taken by the house wine and it was swapped out for something better at no charge.) Don't be put off by the run-down surroundings and unprepossessing exterior of premises; restaurant has fared better than the town over the past half century. Half hour wait for a table testified to local popularity.

Best Steak House in NYC? [moved from Manhattan]

The best deal at the Knickerbocker is the late night steak and eggs for $20.

Need help! Pick 4 of these restaurants...

Agree on Mesa Grill. Reliable for a business lunch but that is about it.

Quiet Downtown neighborhoody restaurants

Gene's is a throwback. You go there for the experience of a time and place that is getting rarer in NYC with the passing of every day.

British Grocery Store in Manhattan

Myers of Keswick carries Tate & Lyle's.

Favorite Long Island Restaurants

Lomardi's By The Bay. Seafood and steaks.

Greek Food in Suffolk County?

Fish dishes are particularly more than OK.

Best Bagels

Murray's bagels are overpriced, to my mind. Try Bagel Bob's on University, between 10th and 9th.

BEST BAGELS IN NYC

Agreed

BEST BAGELS IN NYC

Murray's bagels are overpriced. Try Bob's Bagels on University between 9th and 10th.

The All State Cafe slated to be shut down

Cedar Tavern is not reopening, by all accounts. It has been turned into a condo building. Word is that famous old bar has been sold to a couple of investors in Austin, TX who will be installing it in a bar there.

Top 5 Burgers

Molly's definitely.

Similar to Pete's Tavern

Molly's on 3rd between 22nd and 23rd. Best burgers south of 34th Street and probably higher. Irish bar. Relaxed atmosphere. Not too loud.

British ex-pat bars in Manhattan?

Scousers tell me of it. But you know what their sense of direction is like..... :)

University Place goings-on

The second floor of Cedar is being turned into apartments and another six floors of apartments being built on top of that. No idea what is happening the the bar, but somehow feel it all doesn't bode well. If the bar itself isn't a landmark, it should be.

Burgers! Please Opine regarding your faves

Skip the fries and the onion rings, then. The burger and a pint of Guinness is all you need.

Breakfast/Lunch off the LIE

Anyone know anything of a sushi place in Hauppauge called Kotobuki?

Breakfast/Lunch off the LIE

Tks, Will give that a try, too.

Breakfast/Lunch off the LIE

Tks. Will give it a try.

Breakfast/Lunch off the LIE

Have eaten there. Share your opinion of the place. Excellent pancakes. Only downside is the limited hours.

Breakfast/Lunch off the LIE

Say, no more than 10-15 mins drive.

University Place goings-on

Jack's is finally settling into its stride, one year on, though there were times it looked it wouldn't make it even that far. Not a world beater but a pleasant enough neighbourhood place for a decent plate of food and a friendly drink.

British ex-pat bars in Manhattan?

Nevada's is No 1 Man U pub in Manhattan. Also frequented by big Arsenal contingent. Non-stop English and Italian soccer during weekends. Doors can close 15 mins before KO on big match days. No food beyond pies. McCormack's, on Third Ave at 26th Street, also shows soccer, if that is what you are after. It is an Irish bar that is quieter and does decent pub food. Further up Third between 33rd and 34th is Patrick Kavanagh's. It shows rugby as well as soccer and the food is a notch up from McCromacks, especially the Irish breakfast. The 11th St Bar, way over on the west side on 11th, is meant to be a Liverpool fans bar, but can't vouch for that personally. And West 33rd has bars with a lot of Celtic fans. Jack Dempsey;s is one. Further north, you'll find Brits at Clancy's on Second Ave in the low 50s and at the Baker Street Pub on First Ave at 63rd.
Kennedy's on West 57th is another Arsenal fans hang-out.

Burgers! Please Opine regarding your faves

Good fries. Good to above average burger. Nothng not to like but no stand out. Kitchen still showing signs of teething problems: we waited 15 mins for a takeout order; and there were three delivery orders waiting on the counter throughout. Best burger south of 23rd St. is still to be found at Molly's on 3rd Ave.

Where to watch the game and eat a good dinner ?

Molly's does a great Irish breakfast, too. Ideal for a hearty Sunday brunch on a winter's day. But there are only two TV screens.
