The menu looks very pricey, though.

Currywurst Bros. on Bleeker seems to be closed

I like Wechslers but they only use pork for their currywurst and I prefer beef. Currywurst Bros had a selection to choose from and Wechslers doesn't.

Currywurst Bros. on Bleeker seems to be closed

It's a shame. I was a pretty frequent customer and loved that there was genuine currywurst here in NYC. I'll have to settle for my fix at Herman The German in London in a few weeks, I guess.

Currywurst Bros. finally open

kathryn, I do prefer the thin fries at Wechsler's but the curry sauce is far better at Currywurst Bros. IMO. And I love having a roll to dunk in the sauce. I guess I prefer this overall to Wechsler's because it reminds me so much of Herman The German's in London. Damn, no Embankment Gardens counterpart here to enjoy it in, although Bleecker Street is lovely. Heh.

Currywurst Bros. finally open

Just went again today and there's an $8.50 special on Mondays for currywurst, fries and a can of soda. That's a good deal.

Currywurst Bros. finally open

Currywurst Bros finally opened on Bleecker Street today. My currywurst/fries and roll was extremely similar to what I had in London at a joint near Embankment Tube called Herman The German. HTG claimed its currywurst/fries are identical to what's served in Berlin and so I suppose Currywurst Bros are, too. I chose the mildest curry powder to be sprinkled over the flavorful tomato sauce along with beef bratwurst. The roll was great for dipping in the curry sauce, as HTG's were. I'll definitely be coming back. It's a tad more expensive than I'd like ($11.50 total for currywurst/fries/roll and a can of soda) but once every few weeks shouldn't break the bank.

British pressed apple juice?

Am experiencing withdrawal pains from Marks & Spencer British pressed apple juice. Is there anywhere here I can find an approximation?

British pressed apple juice?

Experiencing withdrawal pains from Marks & Spencer Britsh pressed apple juice. Is there anything in the NY area which approximates its taste?

Best Biryani???

I'm a big fan of the lamb biryani at Swagat (Amsterdam betw. W. 79th/80th). Very satisfying.

Szechaun Kitchen on 1st ave at 79th

Thanks for that particular rec, Heinlein42. I'd always previously had the chicken w broccoli in garlic sauce and pork lo mein but I really liked the Chef's Special Chicken. I find their service to be quite surly, but I guess it's a trade-off considering the speed at which the order is taken, prepared and handed off.

Best Chicken Tikka Masala in NYC?

I like chicken tikka in a thick bhuna sauce, not creamy, so I get the Chicken Tikka Salan Curry at Banjara (6th St at 1st Ave. It's really wonderful.

Five Guys Burgers on Bleecker - Pass

I have to add that the Bleecker St. Five Guys seemed much less hygienic and well run as the one on W. 55th St. And the service wasn't so hot, either.

looking for a really good danish

I love a cherry danish. The ones at Au Pain are pretty good. The ones at William Greenberg are good, too, but the filling isn't as satisfying as the "sour cherry" flavor of the Au Pain ones. I desperately miss the cherry danishes from the London chain Patisserie Valerie.

Most of all I miss the Entenmann's cherry filled buns. I even wrrote them begging them to bring 'em back but was, of course, met with stony silence.

Best Damn Franks

I second the endorsement for the New York Hot Dog Company.

I get the Grand Slam there-2 kosher franks, a knish and a Pepsi. For 7 bucks, I think. The servers are pretty nice, too.

Nick's Pizza - UES

Coincidentally I had my first pie from there last night. I had the pepperoni, which was actually very good. Maybe asking for it well done (the guy at the restaurant deemed it "crispy") helped to avoid the mushy quality you suffered It's easily the best option pizza-wise around here. I had my fill of Dominos and Papa John's. Good God..

good Chinese take-out on the Upper East Side? [Moved from What's My Craving? board]

Just had the sliced chicken and broccoli w. garlic sauce from Szechuan Kitchen-it really hit the spot. I'll try their Sesame Chicken next.

Authentic Irish Breakfast?

I had a really good Irish breakfast at St. Dymphna's pub on St. Mark's Place betw. Ave. A and 1st Ave. The bacon was outstanding-they also have black pudding-not my favorite. Great atmosphere.

Fish & Chips in London

The Golden Hind has new owners-that nice old greek guy is no longer there? I do admit I was a bit disappointed when I was there in early January-the chips were definitely smaller portioned and not as big and thick as they once were.

Really good Indian take out on UES!!!!

Thanks for the rec-will definitely check it out.

Question-were the chicken curry/chicken tikka sauces with cream? Anything like chicken bhuna-a thick sauce?

Burgers! Please Opine regarding your faves

There's a Better Burger opening up soon on W. 45 St. between 6th and 5th. I hope it results in Sun Yip/Ho Yip a few doors down not being quite so crowded at lunchtime.

Looking for Belgian style Frites, any part of the city. Anyone?

I second what tbear said about the fries at Zip Burger. They are terrific. I specifically ask that they be lightly salted because otherwise they can go a bit overboard. Good if not outstanding burger. Certainly outstanding fries, though-my favorite guilty pleasure at the moment.

Shawarma & Falafel Question

I like Yummy Shawarmy's chicken shawarma a lot. Very very tasty. I bring my own BBC sauce from Ranch One for it!

Yummy Shawarmy is on 7th Ave. South near Bleecker-next to that great pizza place I can't remember the name of.

Sour cherry juice in London?

Going for my annual London vacation Dec. 15-Jan. 5 and hope to pick up some sour cherry juice while I'm there. Here in NYC I'm addicted to Pom Wonderful pomegranate/cherry juide as well as Red Orchard Sour Cherry Stomp. Is Pom Wonderful available over there now? I hope I don't have to settle for Cherry Tango soda! Thanks in advance.

Pasta, garlic and olive oil?

Bella Vita on W. 58 St. between 6th and 7th makes a very decent linguine with garlic and olive oil for just $5. I get it at least once a weeek.
