ISO NY Italian recs on Westside for bday dinner
Looking for old school/NY Italian recommendations for DH's bday dinner tomorrow night. He likes lasagna, gnocchi, and pasta bolognese. Carmines and Matteo have gotten mixed reviews here, so I'm wondering if there's anything better anywhere on the Westside and as far as El Segundo. Also, will have 2 kids in tow.
Cheap Challah on the Westside
I just got a challah ($4.65) from The Bagel Factory on Sepulveda & National. It makes for great French toast. They sell day old bagels, so maybe they will sell day old challah for cheaper too. Whole Foods challah is $6. Bagel Factory has several locations on the Westside and in Torrance.

Tia Juana in WLA is closing
When I called Tia Juanas last week, the lady who answered the phone said that they were closing on Nov. 4th.
Where can I buy slider buns in So Cal?
Trader Joes sells "Silver Dollar Rolls" which might fit the bill if you slice them in half.
Dinner in Culver City
I second Wilson's. Highly recommend the tortelli in parmesan fondue. Also tasted the scallops w/shaved truffles special but found it to be a bit on the salty side. Nice service too.
Belgian Waffles?
There's a place on the second level of Howard Hughes Center called Eurostation Waffles. If you just came back from Belgium, you may be disappointed, but I believe they do serve waffles in the Liege style.
