Has Anyone Been to SOLO for the Top Chef?

Are they serving a new menu, or is it still the same menu? How was the food?

Chickpea?

According to the owners at least, they are still using kosher meats.

Ciao West (Bleecker & MacDougal) - Poor Restaurant Practices

Recently had dinner at Ciao West (Corner of Bleecker and MacDougal). While the food was pretty good, I will not be returning for two extremely poor business practices:

1) 20% tip was included in check for a party of 2. This despite the poor service we received. As far as I am aware, this was not mentioned anywhere on the menu.
2) Pasta special of the day was priced at 50% more than the comparable pastas on the menu. Of course the price was not listed and it was my fault for not asking but a special using the same pasta as the menu with similarly-priced ingredients (nothing fancy) should not be priced at such a premium.

KOSHER WINE (GENERALLY) SUCKS

I tried the Ramon Cordova Rioja last night. I found it quite unremarkable. Very bland and watery. No noticeable aroma either.

BEST BAGELS IN NYC

Murray's has the best bagel I have tried.

Also, they absolutely will not toast, which I find refreshing. Anyone who toasts a fresh bagel is outta their mind.

Bubba Gump Shrimp / Serendipity worth the stop?

You need to give more info on what you are looking for. There are hundreds of great seafood places in NY with different price ranges, ambiances, etc..

KOSHER WINE (GENERALLY) SUCKS

Can you post the name of the Spanish Rioja? The Goose Bay wines from New Zealand are EXTREMELY good. The Yarden wines, the Tzora wines, and some others from Israel are also excellent. However, the problem is these wines are few and far between and much more expensive than the average non-kosher wine. If you take almost any decent kosher wine, I guarantee you will find a non-kosher complement at half the price. Even though $20-25 is not a huge amount, it becomes cost prohibitive if you are a regular wine drinker. If anyone has recommendations in the $10-12 price range, I would love to hear..

If you would not drink the non-kosher wine, how can you be so sure there is no difference?

Worst slice?

Around NYU:

A lot of people have been slamming Bens on MacDougal and W.3rd. True, the pizza is nothing spectacular, but on different days can range from mediocre to pretty decent. If you want some really bad pizza in the area, head to "The Pizzeria" a little farther down on MacDougal. It's right next to the Down the Hatch bar, which is apparently the only reason anyone actually goes there.

On the other hand, let me recommend Pizza Box again as the best pizza in the area, and probably Manhattan.

Pizza review

Agreed. The Nick's in Forest Hills is the original and the only solely pizza-focused Nick's.

It happens to be amazing as well.
