Yes, Foster's definitely has vegetarian options.

Foster's Market allows you to buy prepared meals for an entire week. You might be able to do that through A Southern Season, too.

Greek in the Chapel Hill area?

Is Tallula's Greek?! They advertise as Turkish and Ottoman.

El Agave on Hwy 55 near Hwy 54 in Durham

I noticed a new Mexican restaurant in the old O'Bryan's spot on 55 near Brig's. Any chowhounds in the RTP area checked it out yet to offer an opinion?

Abbreviated NC BBQ Tour

Eastern--B's, Skylight Inn
Triangle--Allen and Son in Chapel Hill (not in Pittsboro)
Lexington--who cares? ;-)

Drive between Vegas and LA

I have a friend who is flying to LA and then driving to Vegas for part of her vacation. Any recommendations for chow-worthy restaurants on the way?

Thanks!

best Mexican in Durham/Chapel Hill?

My favorites are Carrburritos for burritos, Los Portales near Southpoint Mall, and Fiesta Grill in White Cross. Many on here love Tonali but I was not that impressed. There are several taquerias in Durham that deserve mention but I have a hard time remembering which ones.

High Point visit ----food recs?

I would recommend the following:

O'So for seafood
Gianno's for Italian
Blue Water Grill for seafood
Steak Street for steak
Southern Roots for southern food (actually in Jamestown)

Farm House Chapel Hill, NC Anyone Been?

I visited the FarmHouse about 4 years ago. It was decent. The atmosphere is definitely old school with the grill in the middle of the dining room. The limited menu does not give you many options but that is ok if the steaks were excellent. However, they were just so-so. I really wanted to like it to support a local, homegrown, traditional restaurant but I just could not find any reason to return.

breakfast in Durham, NC

I would rank Brig's #1 with Elmo's #2 (I prefer the Chapel Hill location to the Durham locatoin but they are equivalent). Unfortunately, Breadman's in Chapel Hill has dropped a bit in the past few years.

hello all. SF transplant. here for gradschool at UNC. need help.

Obviously, he is going to Carolina in Chapel Hill. Seriously, THAT is "UNC" whereas all the others are known as UNC plus their town's name. Y'all must be wuffies or dookies that are complaining.

Now, as to your questions.

1. Not really an expert on that.
2. Carrburritos. You will love it.
3. Mediterranean Deli on West Franklin St.
4. La Fiesta Grill in White Cross, IP3 (Italian Pizzeria III), Maple View Farms for ice cream, Sandwich (though more expensive sandwiches), Merritt's Store for a BLT

I'll refrain from suggesting more expensive, upscale restaurants given your budget.

Speak Greek? (NC -Triangle area)

I recommend Spartacus in Durham.

Need High Point NC recs

I actually ate at Blue Water last Thursday night. Your biggest issue will be finding the restaurant as the sign to the shopping center where it is located is not lit.

The food was quite good as I had salmon and my companion had the grouper. The portions were not large but were not small either. The presentation was nice and each entree came with two sides (mine had mashed potatoes and I substituted asparagus for green beans). The service was a bit slow as our waiter kept disappearing. However, I would definitely eat there.

Other considerations for High Point include Gianno's for Italian, Steak Street, and Southern Roots. It is a shame that Aquaria closed.

Not-to-be-missed BBQ in and around Raleigh

See. again with the Barbecue Joint and sides. Not to be dismissive, but the poster wanted to know aobut the barbecue. The BBQ Joint folks always talk about the sides. But, people want to judge barbecue by the barbecue.

Best Sandwich in the Triangle?

Merritt's Country Store BLT is the best in the land.

Best burger in or around chapel hill?

Buns. Ate there again this evening.

Charleston SC trip. One day and One night

Is the Harbourview Inn a possibility? If so, I would highly recommend that hotel for its service (top notch staff), freebies (full breakfast, afternoon wine and cheese, nighttime milk and cookies), location (next to Waterfront Park and walking distance from great shops and restaurants).

As for restaurants, we enjoyed both Slightly North of Broad and Magnolia's.

Breakfast close to RDU?

Brig's is good. Their specialties are skillets and omelets.

Visiting Raleigh-Durham, Chapel Hill area

In Chapel Hill, here are your best bets:

Burgers--Buns (best taste), Sutton's (best college experience)
Pizza--Italian Pizzeria III (authentic NY style), Brixx (chain but good California-style)
Italian--411, Panzanella
Square Meals--Elmo's Diner, Breadman's
Mexican--Carrburritos (burritos, obviously), La Fiesta Grill (about 10 miles west of campus)
Sandwiches--SandWhich
More upscale dining--La Residence, Crook's Corner (southern cuisine), Acme Food and Beverage
Bars--He's Not Here, Top of the Hill, Spanky's

Granbury/Stephensville dining

You can try Mary's for some great breakfast in a casual setting.

Chapel Hill: Carmine's in East Gate

My wife and i ate there last night around 8:15. We were disappointed.

The food was just "ok." The bread was pretty good but the house salads were rather bland. My wife's Antonio pasta with shrimp was above average. They gave her about 8 shrimp and the tomato cream sauce was tasty. My veal parmigiana was dry and there was barely any sauce on the entire dish.

Service was poor. Again, we showed up at 8:15 and searched for a sign as to the hours but none were listed. We noticed several tables inside and entered and were seated with no questions. Then, as we ate they started to clean the inside of the restaurant and put the chairs up on ALL the tables. We were finished eating before 9:00 (as we tried to rush since it was obvious they wanted us out of there). But, we could only go so fast as our waiter would walk right by our table without acknowledging us. We had drained our water glasses for 5+ minutes before we were able to stop him. Plus, he did not ask us how our food was prepared until we were ready to ask for a box for our leftovers.

So, we do not plan on returning though there should be some kudos for how amazing the interior of the restaurant looks.

Recommended Mexican restaurants in Chapel Hill/Carrboro?

I'll second Fiesta Grill. Other options are a taqueria turned restaurant near Carr Mill Mall (sorry, I don't know the name) and La Hacienda. La Hacienda is closer to the El Rodeo's of the world but has a few unique dishes and has many Latino customers (which is always a positive sign).

Chick trip to Myrtle Beach

Seafood--Sea Captain's House
Burgers--River City Cafe
Mexican--Abuelo's
Steak--Angelo's (it's an Italian restaurant with a buffet but their steaks off the menu are amazing)

Ft. Worth/Granbury (?) Chicken Fried Steak

Yes, I was visiting my sister in Colleyville last week. They have a lake house at Granbury and we stopped for breakfast at Mary's on the way. It was an excellent country cookin' place!

Tucson Breakfasts?

The Good Egg is actually pretty good. I often get an omelet that includes avocado and my wife enjoys their scrambles. As you said, they have a few different menu items that aren't typically available.

NC Triangle - non-chain Mexican in Cary?

Why wouldn't Los Tres Maguyes be consdiered a non-chain? It's a local establishment that has just recently added two locations. While it doesn't match La Fiesta west of Chapel Hill or any of the taquerias, I do believe Los Tres is superior to all of the El Rodeos, El Dorados, et al.

La Cocina is average...nothing different than El Rodeo.

Myrtle Beach ?

I was in MB last week. Again, Abuelo's for Mexican and Sea Captain's House for seafood. Based on chowhound, we tried River City Cafe for burgers (so-so) and Drunken Jack's for seafood (again so-so). Neither was bad but neither was great either.
