Max's Harvest: Farm-to-Table/Slow Food Coming to Delray's Pineapple Grove
What is Eately? I must make sure to avoid it if it's like the Boys.
saporissimo in boca raton
Aw, that makes me sad too. I don't feel compelled to go...
Pinon Grill
I haven't had those, but they sound really good. I'm not much of a fritter person, but I do love scallops.
Pinon Grill
I've been there a few times and had the eggs/crab cake benedict, the pecan crusted trout (twice), the ceviche, roasted artichoke, white chocolate bread pudding (or something like that) and the grapefruit mimosas are awesome! My dining partners have had the tuna burger, cheeseburger, regular eggs benedict and ribs. Everything was outstanding. I think this place is pretty solid.
Save me From Red Lobster in West Palm Beach
I've only been to Havana for some takeout cortaditos from their outside coffee bar. The pastries in the window look amazing though. I would love to eat there one day because I thought that their menu looked WAY more interesting than other Cuban places I've seen.
What did you eat?
Compare oysters
I haven't been to Tarks since the 80's - it's been quite a while! It's kind of far for me now because I live in Delray Beach. I do appreciate when a server accurately describes the oysters though. Most have no idea and play it safe with me by saying "medium" when in fact they are small. Drives me nuts. I'll have to find a reason to go back down to Hollywood again.
Clematis in West Palm Beach's "Longboards" brings "New England-style, fresh seafood with a casual, laid-back ambiance"
NE ambiance, no. Some of the food, ok maybe. Overall, NE is not the vibe I felt there. I think of CA and HI when I think of surfboards. It's a cute place with some nautical decor - maybe that's why they said that. If I had been hungrier, I would have tried the lobster roll. :) Maybe then I would be singing a different tune.

We went to Longboards last night after a show at Kravis. It was kind of empty in there which surprised me because it's on Clematis (not where all the action is, but still) and it was a Saturday night. The inside is cute, surfboards all over, pretty wood bar, aluminum bar stools, and almost all booths for tables. It had a Tryst atmosphere (for you south PBC people's reference), but more casual.
We didn't order a lot of food: blackened fish tacos and a half dozen raw blue point oysters. The bartender was very helpful in matching me up with a craft beer. I like certain mainstream beers, but I love to try new ones and he let me taste it first. He also recommended the blue point oysters as they were the largest of the three varieties offered: blue point, gulf, and something from out west. He also shucked them and they were very fresh, plump, and delicious. They used fresh grated horseradish on the cocktail sauce, which I really liked a lot.
The blackened fish tacos were very good. A little heat, some chipotle aoli, and some other things in there that were on the mild sweet side that tempered the heat nicely. Here are the ingredients: Three mahi tacos fried with mango and watermelon radish salsa, chipotle aioli, and flour tortilla available blackened or grilled upon request
The food and beer were excellent, I would recommend going here if you're in WPB and want to avoid the trendy annoying places like Off The Hookah and another one across the street from it (forgot the name) with bouncers, lines, and velvet ropes. Really? I would opt for Longboard's over that scene any day. I hope they make it though, the lack of people there on Saturday at 10:00 during season was not a good sign. :\

They also had a pretty nice specials board with prime rib and several fish dinners including pompano and snapper.

Need recs for a family celebration dinner in the Boca Raton area
Pete's Cafe Bella Sera & Steakhouse in Parkland? The food is awesome, but it can be expensive. Two of us shared the stuffed veal chop parmigiana, (I think) it was HUGE, an order of the sauteed artichokes (amazing appetizer) and an order of the roasted cauliflower. Everything was delicious and there were plenty of leftovers so it is possible to not go crazy if expense is a concern for you. Things can be split (and many should be, in my opinion).

Ovenella - Italian in Boca Raton
I had a few apps there. I went for their happy hour and bar menu specials. The pizzas (funghi and calabrese) were good, the arancini bolognese, while I'm not typically a fan of rice in a ball and deep fried, was amazing, the bruschetta trio and the fried calamari were delicious.
I need to go back there for happy hour again, it was a good deal and half off all drinks and wine at that time. They have a basil martini that is wonderful.
The Spaniard Tapas Bar & Cafe in Boca Raton?
Go! The food is awesome. I went there and ordered many dishes, each one was delicious.
We had the following dishes:
Grilled vegetable cake in a light pastry crust w/manchego and spicy tomato sauce,
roasted piquillo peppers w fish and calamari, in lobster sauce that reminded me of a romesco sauce (but I could be wrong about that),
lamb chops w/a date and brandy demi glace,
octopus ceviche,
seafood paella for two with seafood and fish,
creme brule catalana style (I can't remember what it was called on the menu but not creme brule).
The tempranillo wines (2) our server picked out for us were both great. The owner is a riot and a joy to speak with.
Here are some pics of the food. I wasn't at this event though. I am dying to try the black paella.

Wow, those pics!! You know I'm all about oysters, but the ceviche and scallops look amazing too! Is that a bar in the center of the pic where all those people appear to be standing? I want to make a trip up there soon. Last time I drove by they were closed, I think I was too early for dinner.

PB Bagels - I'm not sure about those kind of deli sandwiches. I do like their bagels and they often have good baked salmon or other fish platter specials - on 441 and Clint Moore. The one that's east, near Yamato and Congress isn't as good and didn't have any fish platters when I visited it. Seriously, no baked salmon, no whitefish? WTH??
What mexican place on Congress did you visit? The only Mexican in Boca that I've tried and liked is Las Fajitas on Dixie, north of 20th St. It is NOT Dona Raquel, so I would just drive to Pompano if that's what you're craving. They have great fish tacos, spinach quesadillas, skirt steak fajitas, grilled fish salad, and I heard their chicken soup is to die for (huh?). Next time I am sick, I am picking some of it up to see.
There is another taco place near Dixie and Palmetto, CFByrne has been there a lot, and that might be closer to Dona. Mi Casita? I haven't been so I don't know, but I'm sure it's not the same is Dona (which I loved too, btw).
El Jefe Luchador is AWESOME. http://www.jefetaco.com/ (Same owners as Charm City Burger) It is not Dona, so don't go there expecting Dona. Go there expecting Dona and some innovative high end restaurant in a very casual setting.
If the pork skins freak you out (it was my favorite taco btw, just delicious), their fish tacos (I get them grilled) are awesome. I don't recommend the fried shrimp tacos. If they can grill the shrimp, then yes. The breading of the shrimp overpowered the taco, IMO, but I should add that I don't usually like fried shrimp anyway.
Their other tacos I loved were Al Pastor, Ultimo Dragon (but you better like kimchi) and the Mistico. The mistico is rich and very different, but delicious.
Souvlaki Fast is pretty good and they have $5 gyro tuesdays - good deal.
Max's Grill is consistent and I always love everything I get there.
As for V&S, I've only tried their chicken salad and I didn't like it. I found it to be kind of watery. However, I hear their subs are great, but if I'm going to go off my low carb diet and eat a sub, I would only go to La Spadas. Sorry V&S :)
I'll think about more places...
Casa di Pepe - New Italian in Delray Beach Pineapple Grove
Any more reviews of this restaurant? Charitydine.com has a great coupon special running right now. :)
I went to their web site and after all this time, they still don't have a menu posted - it says under construction. In my book, that's quite a few demerits.

Blue Moon Fish Co on the Intracoastal - it's on Commercial Blvd. They used to have a a good lunch special BOGO, but I would call them first to make sure they still have it. It's not too expensive for lunch even if they don't have the BOGO.
What Christmas cookies are you baking this year?
It has more of a candy feel, yes, but the saltines add more of a shortbread (sort of) feel to it.
Sorry it took me so long to reply...
:)
Best market to buy fresh lobster tails in palm beach or broward
This makes me want to go even if I didn't want any lobster! (which is never)
