Dinner between ORF and Manteo
I loved the Weeping Radish when I was a kid. I've passed the new facility but haven't tried it yet. That's a good idea to look into!
Dinner between ORF and Manteo
I'm going down to my parents' house in Manteo, plane gets in on Friday night around 7:30 (fingers crossed, that flight is late EVERY time). Usually I eat dinner at Chick's Oyster Bar in VA Beach (or power though to home), but I think my boyfriend might want to get on the road without a lengthy stop.
Any ideas of where can we stop between Norfolk and Manteo? I can think of a few places on the Currituck mainland- I've always wanted to try Hotdogger's Surf Cafe, but part of the issue here is timing. I'm afraid that with Friday pm traffic, everywhere would potentially be closed by the time we pass by (could be 9, could be 10). I guess there is always Sonic!
Virginia/ Country Hams in NYC?
That sounds like a biscuit slice- a pack of cut rounds just the perfect size to go on a biscuit. Thanks!
Virginia/ Country Hams in NYC?
I'm piggybacking (har har) onto this post, but does anyone know where I can get BISCUIT SLICES? Whole hams I have seen here and there, but those biscuit slices...they're tough. I don't want to have to cook a whole ham for a two-person easter dinner.
Not that too much ham is ever a bad thing, I guess.
Egg's B and G vs. Brooklyn Label's B and G
I am a big fan of Egg's B&G. But my favorite is at Alias (which very well may satisfy your Kentucky-leanings).
new-ish places in Williamsburg
I've been to Elote several times for brunch (also when it was called Santa Fe and the menu was slightly different) and enjoyed it very much, especially when it was warm enough to sit outside on the back patio.
Mizu is amazing for sushi. I am not a sushi snob or aficionado by any means (but I love it!), but Mizu seems to be a step up from the other sushi places in the neighborhood.
I happen to love the Oak (but I also live by Graham). The tomato goat cheese soup with croutons in particular. Really cozy, never crowded, cool laid-back vibe. Even, dare I say, almost romantic. I also believe they now have beer and wine!
Peter's has good takeaway chickens and soup.
Anson Mills Grits Where to?
Whole Foods does not (I was just there looking myself, haha). At least not the Chelsea one, which admittedly is much smaller than the others.
Dean & Deluca does for sure. I've got my hopes up for Williams Sonoma.
Fine-Dining with Southern Influences?
I'm not sure how "fine" this is, but there is a lot of southern in Clinton St Baking Company. I had a wonderful grilled pork tenderloin (how much more southern can you get than pork!) with apples and sweet potato gratin the other night. And the crab fritters tasted a lot like hush puppies to me, yummm. Not to mention the hands-down best biscuits in the city. Maybe ever. And that is saying a lot.
Craft vs Aureole vs other
I absolutely agree. I went for my birthday last year and the tasting menu was wonderful. Because of its location, I can see how the service might skew a little pretentious, but it was friendly and fun, a great place for "event" dining.
Posto on 2nd & 18th?
I LOVE Posto. The Shroomtown pizza is my favorite, but everything they do there is delicious. I'd definitely give it another chance.
Where to eat along Interstates 81 and 64, and Route 501 in VA?
While I admittedly haven't eaten there in 2 or so years, it breaks my heart to hear that.
Edenton NC
Edenton is adorable, I'm excited to see it on the board. There are worse places to spend a week.
Chero's Market Cafe is cute and delicious- West Water Street at the "bottom" of downtown, near the water (obviously). I've only been for lunch, but I've always enjoyed the food there. That would be my pick.
That Fancy Cafe is on the outskirts of downtown (North Broad, but a drive from downtown), located in an old garage that is also an antique store. Very funky, good desserts.
Acoustic Coffee is a cool coffee house on South Broad (the main street).
Waterman's is good for seafood, also on South Broad.
There is also a place that is in an old service station (or something like that) that I have always wanted to go to, but have never been. I think they have live music as well. I can't remember the name, but I'm sure you could ask in town and someone would know based on the description.
What happened to my banana pudding?
I guess by normal I mean ripe but not brown. Normal ripe-banana state. Point being nothing was unusual about the bananas (compared to other times I've made banana pudding) before they went into the oven.
This is driving me crazy!
Copenhagen restaurants
You absolutely MUST go to Ida Davidsen, one of the coolest places in the world with the yummiest food and friendly, helpful waiters.
Cap Horn is on touristy Nyhavn but delicious and atmospheric.
Cafe Europa is right on a prime Amagertorv corner and is the perfect place for coffee, pastry and people watching.
L'education nationale is a cozy little French bistro that we had a lot of fun at, off Stroget.
Cafe Wilder in Christianshavn has delicious, relaxed brunch (love the yogurt with pomegranate seeds).
Sebastopol in Norrebro is a great place to show up hungover and park it all morning long at an outside table.
where to get good crab in maryland
Second the rec for Watermans in Rock Hall (an essential part of my development as a chow pup). Also Mike's on the South River in Annapolis. Crabs + bikers + the South River, can't get much better.
What happened to my banana pudding?
One of my favorite desserts to make is banana pudding (old school recipe off the Nilla box, of course!). I have made this approx. ZILLIONS of times in my life. The last time I made it, however, something really weird happened. The majority of the bananas inside turned...hard and starchy. It was as if I had accidentally used plantains or something. The bananas were normal pre-baking.
Any theories? This has never happened to me before. The only variable that was different was that I used my mother's new oven.
