Yes, it is Amazon and yes, we went with huge families. I would have to try Agora with my hubby only then.
Best food city in North America.
In fact, I have to say Mexico City has a huge advantage on Spanish, Argentinian, Brazilian restaurants... and small advantage on French restaurants etc.,

I have been to one in Santa Ana, I am not able to remember the name, it’s off the 91. I can only eat one plate of meat along with the buffet bar, but I have no idea how my husband can go for more every time. I am so scared that I am going to have to call the ambulance to get him out of there. I love their turkey wrapped in bacon. But yeah, I would only recommend going once a year.
Good places to eat in Cerritos?
I wanted to try them yesterday with my co-worker; they have a C for the rating so we skipped them and went to Kabuki (sp?) next door.
In the Cerritos Town Center you have Wood Ranch, TGIF, Mimi’s, Macaroni Grill, and also Arte Café, as mentioned above. Not that far from Cerritos in La Palma, you have Aroma’s. They have pretty good Italian food; I usually get their gnocchi’s or lasagna.

I just wanted to share this with you guys, my children and myself have the sniffles, hitting below 50 in South California, something we are not that used to. My husband made chicken soup last night for us. I have had chicken soup before, but something in the way he makes it cures us. One year I was feeling extremely lousy, getting the flu at work, I went home and he made this huge pot of it and the next day I went in a felt like new. Even my co-workers saw me and try to pry out of me what I had. It’s his soup. It’s just the basic, chicken, potatoes, carrots, celery, and some rice; of course salt and some pepper. It always works; maybe it’s the love he pours into or something. =-)
Panera: Pretty Poor
They opened a Panera by my house in La Mirada, CA. My friends and I thought it was something new, we did think that it opening next to a Starbucks was kind of funny, but hey who knows. I have been there 3 times, once for lunch but I had a croissant, while my hubby had an artichoke sandwich, and the kids had a grilled cheese sandwich (which was pretty good). Last time I went I got the spinach and bacon quiche. Sorry, fellow chowhounds, but I loved it; maybe really high in fat, but to have once every blue moon, why not. The decor is ok; it has a fireplace, but it does not seem a cozy place to hang out or something.
Recs for Cerritos/Artesia not Chinese, Indian, or Korean
La Capilla is a pretty good Mexican place, its off of La Palma and Carmenita which turns into Moody in that intersection, its in La Palma, not that far from Artesia/Cerritos.
La Mirada Recs
There are a few placeds off of Beach and Imperial, mostly chains though. Chili's, Applebees, Red Robin, nothing special, there is a Peruvian place off of Imperial and Santa Gertudes, little hole in the wall, it's very good. In the same shopping mall where the theater is at there is a Mexican place, kind of more of a hang out than good food, and also a sushi place that keep changes owners (should tell you something)
Nothing really in La Mirada, I should now, I live here. =-(
And from being from Pasadena, it still hurts after 5 years.
How Did You "Deal" With Being Poor (and Young) Before You Could Afford to Dine Out (or eat well dining in)?
Living close to Old Town Pasadena in my late teens early twenties, it was Del Taco (2 chicken soft tacos and small drink) for me when I had no money, I would even walk there from my apartment 1⁄2 mile to save on gas, if I had a little money to spare it was Ko Ko Roo Chicken (sp) breast, leg, potatoes, and again a small drink, since I lived around the corner I also walked to it.
Empanadas
Empanadas Gourmet in Monrovia are ok, kind of dry for me. They do have a little stand on the weekends in Old Town Monrovia during the spring/summer months. Just going down there is fun. Tito’s Market in El Monte has them too, they are a little bit juicier, I like them but people born in Argentina don’t. You also have El Gaucho Meat Market in Manhattan Beach, they are pretty good, El Gran Casino are really good, kind of far for me but on a Sunday morning just going down there for facturas, and then hanging out for their empanadas, YUM!! You can also try El Gaucho Grill, they are in L.A. somewhere and also Pasadena, but for me they are to Americanized. There is El Sandwichero in Downey I think, they are good and huge.

Any Food Recs in the Buena Park, CA area?
Po-folks is good, nothing fancy, mostly comfort food. I have had the pork chops with smashed potatoes, real good and their grilled cheese sandwich with some fries. You also have Mrs. Knott’s Chicken Dinner Restaurant over by Knott’s Berry Farm, been there once and it was pretty good. It’s off of Beach as well. Sorry, but I can't help you with ethnic choices.
Valentines day dinner

I would like to take my hubby out for dinner on the 16th of next month, since Valentines Day falls on a Wednesday. He loves steak, one of my co-workers mentioned Ruth’s Chris in Irvine. Has anyone been there? Are there other places to look into? I want to stay close to home (La Mirada) since we are having a baby sitter watch the kids. I want it to be very special for both of us since we hardly go out alone. We both are meat and pasta eaters, I would like to keep it on the down low, nothing outrages like over 300 for both.

On the 21st I am having over 15 guests for dinner. My hubby is basically the cook in the family and I am the one who LOVES to eat. But that night I would like to make something myself for our guest. I want to keep it simple since I have two children at home who love my attention on Saturdays, and I don’t want to order something in. I was thinking some chicken with potatoes, or raviolis with a good meat sauce. What are your some of your ideas on this? Thank you in advance.

Going to the Cerritos Center - Where to Eat?
You have Mimi’s Café, TGIF, Macaroni Grill, Wood Ranch, and Arte Café across the street from there, I know they are chains but you might enjoy them. A little further out but still close, you have Aroma’s in La Palma. They serve Italian; I really enjoy going there for lunch.

It's so cold in my office that a submarino or cafe con leche would really come in handy. And sorry to say, but you will never get over the coffee, my husband has been here for close to 10 years and he can not find anything close to it. I am glad you enjoyed your time there. It's a beautiful city.
ZONA ROSA CAFFE, pasadena - so disappointing!
Refresh my memory please, Zona Rosa is on El Molino, cross street Colorado right? If it's the little coffee shop that I am thinking of when I used to live down the street, I loved that place. It always made me feel comfy. Though it's been ages and I can not remember what thier coffee tasted like, but my hubby who is a big coffee drinker, loved it!!

El Gaucho Meat Market has Argentinean style ones, I am not sure what you are looking for. You can order them made and fry or bake at home or they will do it for you for a little more.
Also, Trader Joes has some like 6 in a pack, they were really good but very spicy.

I love going to Tito’s Market in El Monte too, even though I think they sold out big time. But the owners (son’s right now) know me since I was 5-6 years old, when they were a little hole in the wall across the street from where they are now, always greet you with a hug and a kiss on the cheek...
Anyone else dreaming of a non-traditional T-day dinner?
Due to different life styles, my family does not spend the holidays together anymore. The last time we all were together was about 7 years ago. One Thanksgiving I will never forget was when my dad took us to Venice beach, I was about 14-15 and heard a homeless man say thank you to another homeless for an apple. That puts things into perspective quick style. Enjoy your time with your family, unfortunately my mom has passed away 14 years ago and I would love to spend at least one hour more with her.
