Best Bourbon Selection - retail sales?
Potomac Wine & Spirits on Wisconsin. I get my 1792 Ridgemont Reserve from Steve over there - and he'll get you anything at a very, very good price.
Decent French in NOVA?
La Bergerie in Old Town on Lee Street between Cameron and Queen Street. A classic, real French restaurant where they still prepare caesar salad tableside and has impeccable, discreet service. The real deal. http://www.labergerie.com/
Buying wine
Isn't Doug Rosen at Rick's Wine and Gourmet on Duke Street just outside of Old Town?
Buying wine
Check the Washington Post on Mondays - wine ads come out then. All stores have a few wines that are their "loss leaders" that they post on sale at cost. Check those first.
Then, Costco. Costco has some of the lowest mark-ups in the biz. Right now, I'd buy the Catena Chardonnay (Nicholas Catena, Chile) - think it's about $11. Steal. They are a bit low at this time - but, expect much more in a few weeks as they ramp up inventory for the holidays.
Lastly, check out winestilsoldout.com for some killer deals. One wine per day is discounted up to 70% until sold out. Today is an Italian white for less than $6 - delivered and tax free. Can't beat that!
Cheers and good luck.
Drinks at PX, diner at Eve
Hi - I'd recommend just the opposite - dine at Eve, then have them call PX and let them know you are coming over afterwards. It is more of an after dinner spot. Very sexy, late night place.
Bring lots of cash - drinks are pretty expensive (but, oh so good!).
Restaurant Eve for Lunch?
How was it?? The prix fixe menu is a word of mouth dealio, I think. I hate to spread the word too much, because there are a few of us who go at least twice a week and we want to ensure we still get our tables (or bar space)!
vineyards with great food and wine........
How about Oasis? They will set up a private cabana for you overlooking the vineyards and cater anything your heart desires. Or, for really romantic - ask them to set-up a private table in the rows of the vineyard. Complete with crystal, candles, flowers, etc. Ask Tareq to help you out.
Bon chance!
Restaurant Eve for Lunch?
The bar at Eve is very casual, and the staff so very nice. You will be fine in nice slacks and blouse - you would be fine in a pair of jeans. There are no attitudes.
Remember, they serve an outstanding value prix fixe bar menu, which consists of two courses of a three part menu (wine, entree, desert). I recommend the Syrah wine (or Ken Forrester Chenin Blanc if you prefer white) and the risotto or salad of the day. $16.50.
Enjoy!
Red Wine Recs
The Kamen Estate 2002 Cabernet is one of the very best, if not the best value on the list. This one retails (low retail wine shop price) for about $50/bottle. For $65, they are basically giving it to you for a corkage fee. For furture reference you can check national wine prices at www.wine-searcher.com
Cheers!
Where should I buy wine online?
Best Deal, hands down:

Sometimes good:

Bastille DC Restaurant, Alexandria Old Tow
HORRIBLE. I am so disappointed to report that Bastille was just awful. Pity too, because those of us who live in Old Town have been very excited to have another good restaurant on the North Side. French fries were cold and soggy. Chicken sandwich had crab on it that tasted like it was from a can. Service was rude, frazzled, and ineffecient. IT was later that we found out the waitress was the owner! Wine list is mediocre and overpriced. At least they have interesting art on the walls - about the only nice thing I can say about it.
Wine Deals
Sunday night- La Tasca has entire wine list 1/2 price, as well as Sangrias.
Right now, Galileos has their entire list 1/2 price to celebrate Wine Spectator award (not open for lunch anymore - moving).
Also, if you love wine, try this new super cheap wine site: www.winestilsoldout.com - free delivery, no tax, wines at least 50% off. And no, I do not work for them! Just a wino who loves good deals...
