Ouest is closing

I'm surprised there hasn't been a discussion of the imminent closing of Ouest on this board. This is one of a handful of fine dining spots on this part of the UWS. I have always found the atmosphere and food very satisfying and I will miss this restaurant.

Now I know my A, B, C......

As pretty much all NYC restaurants have now received their publicly reported grades, I have seen more and more of my favorites receiving grades of B or even C. Should I be avoiding these? When you look at the inspection history and see scores for the same restaurant varying by 40 points or more over a brief period of time, it calls into question the validity of the process. But still--a rating of C because of filth flies and poor refrigeration? Ugh.

Blue Hill disappointment

Blue Hill has always been a favorite of mine, but I have noticed a recent trend towards what I would call "fussy" food, e.g. use of foam, which I think is too precious for words. This is a very different ambience from the heartier food i have been accustomed to. Does anyone else detect the same change?

Crab house near Waterfront Marriott

Traveling to Baltimore today and don't have the time to do much research. I am interested in the best crab to found in close proximity to the Waterfront Marriott. Don't mind if it is touristy, just looking for great chow.

Lansky's (UWS) - Jewish deli opens 9/25

I have a bit of a concern about the authenticity of a restaurant that lists "noches" on their menu.

Oppenheimer meats to close

What a disappointment, another landmark of the old Upper West Side bites the dust after 40+ years.

Wondee Siam Amsterdam Avenue

There is a sign indicating a new branch of Wondee Siam will soon open on Amsterdam at 107th Street. This site is not more than 100 feet away from Thai Market, which seems to be everyone's go-to Thai place in the neighborhood. Any reason to think Wondee will be an improvement? I can't imagine it will be.

How can something that smells so bad taste so good?

Cilantro-ugh-can't even walk past it in the produce department without feeling ill--although I don't think it tastes that great either.
