another ? Bar with food in Richmond dist.

Try the Tee Off. It's a bit of a dive bar with really good, cheap food. It's going to be featured on Diners, Drive Ins and Dives. It's on Clement near 30th Ave.

Waffle Mania Belgian Waffle Truck at Civic Center Farmer's Market - SF

The Marin Farmer's Market is on Thursday and Sunday.

Seriously good pies - Marin

I've only had pie from there once and I often don't like bakery pies, but I was served Sweet Things cherry pie by a friend and it was so unexpectedly delicious. The crust was buttery and perfect and the cherries tasted fresh and just lightly sweetened. I've been stopping by there when I am in the neighborhood ever since and I love their almond cake with the raspberry glaze.

Sweet Things in Tiburon?

El Dorado Kitchen - tourist trap?

I went to El Dorado Kitchen on the square in Sonoma Sunday without reservations and we were told there would be a ten minute wait. We went to the bar and right after we ordered cocktails the hostess told us our table was ready. We were seated on the patio, where there were several open tables, so I'm not sure why we had the wait. But, it was fine.

I ordered the most inexpensive bottle of zinfandel for $32 and then we ordered our food. We had already been served when the waiter told us they were out of the wine I had ordered. I selected another bottle for $39. I was OK with that but by the time the second bottle arrived we were all just about finished with our food so we declined it.

This wouldn't have been such a problem if the exact same thing hadn't happened when I ate there in August, except that time they didn't have the second selection either so they comped us two glasses of an unnamed pinot from the bar.

So what's with that? Do they think their customers are tourists who won't be returning - so they get them to buy drinks at the bar and try to upsell them on the wine? I e-mailed them Monday to let them know I had this experience twice and got no reply.

This kind of ploy really detracts from the food. I had mussels with fries and it was very good, but not the best I have ever had. (That would be Plouf and the Washington Square B&G, I'm sad to say.) Two had the bay shrimp sandwich and one had the chopped salad, and everyone was happy with their meals.

Looking for Restaurant no longer in The Cannery

Could it be Crivello's? They had a restaurant in an Ignacio shopping center and I believe they just served lunch. It was a family run operation and closed in the mid 1990s after the new generation took over. They may have started at the Cannery.

Looking for restaurant for large group (12+) on Sat

I called Ciao on Church Street on a Saturday to see if they could accommodate a group of 15 on Sunday afternoon. They were so cool about it, said it would be no problem. We got a great long table in the enclosed garden area. The food was great and there was something for everyone from a 3-year-old to the middle-agers.

Good Food at Rocker Oysterfeller's in Valley Ford

The hotel and restaurant are run by a very delightful young couple, Shana and Brandon, and they are trying to make a go of it in a remote location. Brandon is a chef and Shana has worked fr caterers and I've had great experiences with their restaurant. I was so grossed out by the barbecued oysters (from Washington) at Tony's in Marshall, I thought I'd never eat one again, but Brandon does a superb job. Loved the garlic butter version -- and they are one-bite oysters from Tomales.

A weekend at the hotel can include dinner and desserts there along with side trips to DiNucci's, Casino in Bodega for their cheeseburgers ( a local supplies the ground beef), and Seaweed Cafe.

Washbag Closes

I just posted above. It looked like they were gone but I can't believe they left so quietly. Where are all those regulars going to go?

Washington Square Bar & Grill

Walked by today and it was closed. Any idea on what's up?

Emporio Rulli

I haven't gone in there since my 23-year-old daughter was humiliated by a waiter for the way she prepared a cup of tea she had ordered. It was served too full so she spilled little into the saucer and he apparently didn't think that was cool.

SOS on Creamed Chipped Beef on Toast in SF

I believe the restaurant at the top of the Marine's Memorial Hotel always has it at breakfast. I haven't tried it, though.

Fun, hip restaurants in Marin/San Rafael

Sol Food is lively and fun but there's no alcohol.

Dinner in Marin on Saturday night

Avance closed a while ago. Vin Antico at 881 Fourth Street in San Rafael is one of the younger places. Nice atmosphere and very good food. Rafters nearby is OK for pub grub. For an old style Italian dinner with a full bar available, try La Toscana on the Redwood frontage road across from the civic center. It is a pretty reliable neighborhood spot.

Maria Manso World Cuisine - More Cuban in San Rafael ... and Asian?

I haven't been there in about a year but the food is very good and well presented. The front of the house partner is so personable and caring, she makes everyone in the restaurant feel appreciated. She also makes great shochu cocktails. It is open late and they often have live music after 9 p.m. on weekends. I would probably go back more often but it is on the west end of Fourth Street and I think people forget about restaurants being there.
