Lawrence-Andover-North Andover Eats

Wow. Thanks for the tip. Got takeout at Garden House and it lived up to expectations. Delicious dishes - pork ja jang noodles and bulgogi. And a dumpling soup that was low key but very comforting. I am definitely coming back. Thanks, Spectra.

Must Eats in Doha?

Hi, all. I am traveling to Doha for a week (my first trip to the Middle East), and want to know the best places to go. Price is a factor, though I am open to all price ranges if it is a do-not-miss experience.

Wholesale fruit (for an event)

I'm wondering the same thing, as I am making 100 jars of jam for a wedding (strawberry/rhubarb, ginger/peach, and a mixed berry). So far, the best I've been able to come up with is Chinatown, or possibly making the drive to the Hunt's Point market. I'm even considering heading into Jersey for wholesale fruit, though I can't figure out where to go there. Am going to try searching those boards. If you found anything out, please let me know.

My Endless Search For The Perfect Ribs

I can't speak to their ribs specifically, but maybe someone else can. Boneyard BBQ on Ventura in Sherman Oaks has very tasty high-end BBQ.

Hide Sushi

I second the rec for Sushi Don, though I'm not sure it's better than Hide used to be. Not to be confused with Sushi Dan, which is supposed to be awful.

Lunch near Kaiser on Sunset

The Thai restaurant in the mini-mall north of the Bank of America on Vermont and Hollywood is pretty good -- not the best in the area, but close enough to Kaiser. Even closer, though, is the terrific Thai place on Edgemont and Hollywood. Unfotunately, I can't remember the name, but they have a fantastic Tofu soup (as well as great Thai standards). There is a papusaria next door which I have never tried.

If you are willing to drive, I would try Red Corner Asia on Hollywood East of Western, or Yai (my new favorite Thai) on Hollywood West of Western. Both are on the north side of the street.

Sanamalung is great, too.

Il Capriccio, Vermont north of Hollywood, is great Italian food. Walking distance to Kaiser. Next to Mama Mia.

Carousel, on Normandie and Hollywood, is a middle-eastern BBQ meat place. I'm not a big fan, but a lot of people love it.

There is also a very popular Thai/Chinese place next door to Carousel, on the south side of Hollywood, a block east of Normandie.

Solo Dinner Near Paramount Suggestions

Mario's Peruvian Seafood on Melrose and Vine, and get the seafood saltado. An early dinner is great, because they close early.

Best Tri Tip Sandwich?

I had dinner at the Boneyard Bistro in Sherman Oaks (on Ventura, 1/2 mile west of Coldwater) and my companion ordered the Tri Tip sandwich. The portion was enormous, and, like most of the meal, delicious. Very good cut of meat, good quality bread. $14. A nice place if you haven't been.

Bon Appetite 50 on 50 tasting -- did anyone go?

This is a tasting BA has every year, 50 LA restaurants represented, each by a chef making a signature, bite-sized dish. With wine tastings, too. Almost every table had some treasure.

I had a fantastic time going from table to table, eating to my heart's content and beyond.

Just curious if you went what you felt the highlights were. Il Grano had a simple yet incredible ravioli. The toro roll at Sushi Roku was quite delicious. I don't remember off the top of my head what they were serving, but I remember being impressed with Providence. I can't wait for next year.
