Legal Seafoods or Summer Shack

As much as I always prefer local restaurants over chains I would pick Legal over Summer Shack. I had a really bad experience last time at Summer Shack and will probably not go again.

Tyrkisk Peber or other Danish licorise

I got some yesterday at Cardullo's and they have plenty in stock right now. Cardullo's is great for any kind of European sweets: Haribo, all sorts of licorice, Toffee Crisp, Mars, Lion Bars.....

I've never heard of the Viking House in Concord. Being from Iceland I have to check that out.

Bad experience at Summer Shack

I have always been a fan of Summer Shack. I went there tonight with my girlfriend and was really looking forward to it. I ordered the fried chicken and she had a blackened red fish. Her fish was really good, except for the big bone that they failed to remove. My fries were excellent but the chicken was only lukewarm. I didn't feel like complaining about it and it tasted ok.

We were about half way through our dinner when the busboy spilled a full coffee cup from the table next to us. My girlfriend got a big coffee stain on her white skirt. I pointed it out to the person as he was cleaning up and he said "Sorry" and walked away. She didn't want to pursue it so we didn't mention it to anyone else.

As we were waiting for our check there was another big spill, this time directly behind me. I look under my table and there was a big pile of green beans, rice and fish fillet. The spill was really loud and people on neighboring tables started talking about both spills and saying that we should not have to pay for our meal. In that moment the manager walks back with our check. He looks at me and says "Did you get hit too?" I said no but there is a big coffee stain on my girlfriend's skirt from an earlier spill. The manager pulls out his business card and says "I guess I can give you my business card if you want to have it dry cleaned." We just look at him, not knowing what to say. Then he says, "What do you want me to say? I guess I'm sorry" He then left with the bill on the table.

Needless to say we did not take his business card and we left rather unhappy. We certainly won't be going back there anytime soon. I do find it incredible that the manager chooses to do nothing even after witnessing the spill.

Where can I buy Baker's Ammonia?

I'm hoping to make Icelandic donuts today but they require Baker's Ammonia. Whole Foods doesn't carry and neither does Roche in Lexington.

Any suggestions?

Anyone eaten at The Ginger Pad in Burlington?

Yes, I ate there yesterday. I had the Kung Pao Chicken. Wasn't bad but it wasn't good either. It feels like a fast food joint, only slower.

I wouldn't go out of my way to eat there.

Best Fried Chicken

I'm craving fried chicken right now and have no idea where to go.

Any suggestions? Preferably close to Lexington. Looking for something quick, casual and very tasty.

best sandwich spot in Boston

Hi-Rise on Huron in Cambridge is my favorite. Best sandwiches I've had in Boston or anywhere else. Also try their housemade Oreos. They're addictive.

Flour also gets my vote.

All Star Sandwich - Has anyone Tried the Burger Yet?

I went there 2 days ago and tried to order the burger but they had not integrated it into the menu. They did not say when the burger would be available. The place was half empty, just before 7. Had the bbq pork sandwich, which was ok. The fries were greasy, as if the first frying had been done with too low of a temperature. The waitress noticed that I didn't really eat the fries and asked if I hadn't liked them. When I said no,not really she took them off my bill.

I think they're still having growing pains. Their chili is worth trying.

Fresh Brown Bread?

Hi-Rise in Cambridge has Brown Bread that is baked in a can. Haven't tried it but everything else of theirs that I've tried is just incredible. They have the best sandwiches in town.
