Has anyone been? If so, is it worthwhile?

Help! Relatively Inexp. Pre- Roy Thomson Dinner

I disagree...for one of a chain, that Elephant & Castle is surprisingly good. They've redone the back part of it and the food isn't bad at all. I'd say if you want inexpensive and close it's your best option.

Duke of Gloucester- is it a chain?

As far as I know it's stand-alone, and it's one of my favourites in Toronto. It's just slightly grungy and rundown, but that gives it its charm and authenticity. I'd say it's the closest to a real British pub you'll get in this city, along with the House on Parliament. Definitely a step up from the indentikit chains that forgot the heart and soul of a real pub. My guilty food pleasure there is the jalapeno joe balls...don't ask, just try.

(Toronto) 'Piggies' in near Riverdale Farms in Cabbagetown

As I understand it they're only open for brunch on Sundays, and just serve ice cream the rest of the week. There was a review of it in NOW a little while ago and I think it got NN. If you end up going I'd love to hear what it's like...it looks cute and could be a good lazy Sunday destination.

As it says in the headline...how embarrassing.

Allen's on the Danforth has a great selection of beer and whisk(e)y, the food would work for a carnivore, and the ambiance is pretty good too. What's the occasion?
