Best Kid-Friendly Restaurants
Any suggestions on some of the best kid-friendly, reasonably priced, casual restaurants in the Southern NH area?
Bangers & Mashed
I have seen several restaurants that serve Bangers & Mashed, but would like to know-does anyone where you can buy the sausages in the Boston, North of Boston area?
St Patrick's Day ideas
I am looking for some ideas on where to go for St Patty's day in the Boston or North of Boston area. I know that there will be a ton of places with something going on, but I haven't been to many of them. I am looking for ideas for a place that will have live music, traditional Irish food (other than Corned beef), cater to a crowd other than the college scene (I'm in my 30's), and last a place where it doesn't matter if I am a big drinker or not-not that important for me. Just a place with good atmosphere, live music, etc. Not just a "bar" if you follow...thanks
Anyone know of a good maple syrup & cheese farm to visit in VT?
Weston Country Store is an excellent little shop that often gets overlooked by the people stopping at the Vermont Country Store. I like both, but the VT Country Store can get crowded, whereas the Weston Country Store usually is less crowded and has lots to look at. Also, what a nice village it is to stop in. The Newfane Country Store is also nice if you make it down to Southern VT

I also would have to say Sugarbush Farm and then time permitting, follow it up with a visit to Billings Farm.
St. Patty's Day ideas
I am looking for some ideas on where to go for St Patty's day in the Manchester/Southern, NH area. Any ideas in Manchester/Nashua/Concord area? Not looking to travel to Boston-maybe outer suburbs if you know a place. Thanks.
Moe Joe's Family Restaurant
I recently saw an ad for Moe Joe's family restaurant in Manchester, NH, featuring a Thursday dinner buffet. I am curious if anyone has eaten there, how the food was, or if you have tried the buffet, what types of entrees were offered. Thanks
Lucky Dragon-Salem, NH
Funny you should mention that. That is where we ended up going. They are both owned by the same people, but the Corner in Haverhill is cleaner and the food slightly better (it's very good). It is hard to find good Chinese close to where we are-Derry
Lucky Dragon-Salem, NH
All of my family have been regulars at Lucky Dragon (Route 28, Salem, NH) for years. The food has been for the most part very good. As they stand right now, I would advise people to drive by. Cleanliness has become a non-issue with them. The floor and tables look as if they haven't been washed in some time. Finally, their idea of customer service is for the new woman working the counter to let regular (7+ Years) customers wait to order for 5 minutes without acknowledging us in any way while she also packed trays, walk to the counter and ask for our order. When I asked my dad "do you know what you want?" she proceeded to look at us and tell us "hurry up. let's go. You order now. Let's go". Needless to say, we left. I would ask other readers who have been there to consider going elsewhere-unless you enjoy a filthy restaurant and rude employees.
Rice/Pasta-Freezing with Foodsaver. Any ideas?
I am planning to make a large batch of rice and a batch of pasta to put into foodsaver bags and freeze for later use-I often don't have enough time to cook a meal. I would like to know if anyone has tried freezing rice, pasta or similar items and what the results were. Thanks
Cider Donuts - Cold Hollow Cider Mill, VT
Love that store. Not only the cider donuts-they have the best selection of gourmet mustards, sauces and other hard to find items.
slow cooker favorites?
Don't know if anyone else has mentioned it here, but one of the best slowcooker investments is the "Fix it and forget it" cookbook. It sells for reasonable money and has many recipes that are easy to make, taste good, and most importantly are everyday meals that most people would eat. I have made several of the recipes in it and have not often been disappointed.
Foodsaver/Bulk Recipe ideas for freezing
I recently found my Foodsaver vac machine and am planning to make large batches of a handful of entrees so that I can foodsave and freeze them for later. Other than poultry/fish-does anyone have any suggestions for some meal ideas that might freeze well.
also-are there any foods that will not freeze/reheat well. Thanks
Common Man Windham, our Anniv Dinner Experience
We went to the Common man in Windham for our anniversary dinner, having been there a handful of times in the past, arriving there a little after 5pm. I ordered a steak and my wife had the baked haddock. Although she enjoyed the haddock and the salads were very good, having fresh greens, I found the steak to be just "average"-not bad, but nothing you couldn't get at a place like Texas Roadhouse or the 99. I have had their bbq glazed ribs in the past, and they were outstanding, so hopefully they haven't changed.
Servers were spread out to far, working tables in different areas of the dining room, which made for slow service, although through no fault of our server. They were just too busy and it didn't seem to make sense; rather than working a group of tables in the same area, they were going in all different directions. This meant a longer wait for smaller, but just as important requests (drink refills, condiment requests, etc). There also was too much "lag-time" between courses and drink re-fills. Our Salads were finished for some time before the meal came out and our drinks had been empty for too long as well. Again, the servers were pleasant and I think it was through no fault of theirs. For desert, the baked apple was excellent (order it at the beginning of the meal, or you will wait a long time for it, as it's made to order).
The thing that I found that most seem to have changed since we last went there (again no reflection of the restaurant itself) was attire. Others will probably disagree with me on this, but here goes. I have been going here on and off for years, and when I first started going, this seemed to be a place where you got dressed up a little-not formal, but maybe business casual. That is long gone. People were wearing jeans, sneakers, shorts and sandals/flip-flops.
So, for a decent, but a little pricey casual meal they were ok. I definitely would hesitate to choose them again for a special occasion.
Why does the Acton/Concord area have NO GOOD RESTAURANTS?
Makaha isn't even decent "Chinese-American" food. They are very hit or miss-sometimes okay, other times you can tell it is re-heated garbage. They would have been gone years ago if they didn't have a bar.
Anniversary Dinner
I am looking for some anniversary dinner suggestions for Saturday night, preferably places outside of Boston (we are in So. NH).
Ideal place would serve Steak, chicken, possibly Italian. Looking to stay in the range of $30 per person, give or take. I welcome any ideas, especially smaller "hidden jewels" or unique restaurants. Thanks.
Good Chinese in Manchester, NH
I had been looking at Chen Yang Li's menu this morning, but read that the Nashua location is closed, and Bedford is a little farther than I was looking to travel, as I have a young daughter with me. I should have been more specific-I know there are a lot of places in Manchester itself, but haven't been to any except New Yee and would like some suggestions on places in Manchester itself, specifically closer to the Londonderry end. Thanks
Good Chinese in Manchester, NH
Americanized Chinese is fine. There aren't many decent ones around Derry, so I am looking for a decent one in Manchester (I'm not familiar with any there except New Yee
Anniversary Dinner
Looking for some suggestions for an anniversary dinner in September. We are in Derry,NH so something reasonably close by (appx an hour, give or take). I would appreciate any input you may have, especially those unique or off-the-beaten-path restaurants. For previous years, we have done Michael Timothy's, Piccola and the Odyssey cruise ship. All were good, but looking for some other thoughts as well. We really enjoy anything fall (foliage views, farm houses, etc if that helps any) Thanks.
Good Chinese in Manchester, NH
There are a lot of postings for Chinese in Manchester but some are older and restaurants may have changed since then. Anyone have any thoughts for good Chinese in the area??
Kung Pao Sauce
Does anyone have a good recipe for Kung Pao sauce similar to that used in Kung Pao beef?
Avandi's - Londonderry, NH Anyone Eaten There?
Drove by Avandi's in Londonderry today. The sign said steaks, seafood, Pizza. Has anyone ever eaten there?
Chinese - So. NH Manchester/Nashua Area
Any recommendations for good Chinese in So. NH-Manchester,-Nashua area?
Windham, NH - is there life beyond Applebees?
I have to agree with you. I grew up in the Reading area and we ate at Kitty's frequently. After I had moved to NH, we went there for a casual special occasion meal (maybe 3 years ago) and they had gone way downhill from what they used to be like. We were not impressed at all and never returned since.
Windham, NH - is there life beyond Applebees?
It's in the Hannaford's plaza, behind Burger King
Gas Grill-Propane Tank Refill Derry, NH Area
Since you brought it up--if you search the internet or phone book, which I TRIED before I posted, you get results'listings for companies that fill HOME propane tanks (such as oil companies, fuel, etc). This board is about food is it not??? Do you not use the grill to cook food, which the board is about or did I miss something??
Gas Grill-Propane Tank Refill Derry, NH Area
Does anyone know of any place in the Derry, NH area that fills propane tanks for gas grills? Thanks
Looking for a really good Pastrami sandwich? Try Harold Square in Londonderry, NH
I tried Harold Square today for the first time and have to agree that the food there is excellent. I ordered a NY Deli sandwich with corned beef and was not disappointed. As mentioned in the previous posting, there was no salty aftertaste to the meat. The salad was fresh and the dressing appeared to be home-made. Sandwiches come with fries, which also were not greasy at all; It was clear that the oil they were cooked in was very clean. Overall, the restaurant itself and the restroom was very clean. Reasonable prices, excellent portion size, great service and a very clean establishment. If you are in the area, I would highly recommend that you give it a try.
Herr's Potato Chips
Wal-mart Supercenter does the same thing-they will have a big display, and when it's gone, they don't show up again for months. Obviously if they are gone, it's likely that someone bought them, so you would think they would order more.
