What's Going In Your Garden Now?

Never mind; I remember.

What's Going In Your Garden Now?

Nice! Are you in the south? When did you put them in the ground? As seedlings or sets?

I harvested a few of my garlic.

How far are you willing to drive for a good restaurant?

I LOVE that episode!

pimentos de padron (but in wisconsin)

Oh, good! I haven't grown padron in a few years, but I usually have to start my peppers seeds about eight weeks before I set them out. Looks like only 55 days from transplant to harvest.

Here's where I go with my questions

It might be late to start from seeds in a lot of places. Can you get plants? Morningsun herb farm has them.

Around the World in 80 Plates [Split from Top Chef thread]

Thanks for the heads up! Didn't realize it was tonight Starts in about 50 minutes here in California. I only saw the very end of episode one. Will it be unfair to the show to start with episode two? Is there a synopsis linked on this thread somewhere?

Found it.

Yeah....what a bummer....

What's Going In Your Garden Now?

I have had possums sit on my back fence in the night.I have also had foxes back there. Don't know if they dig up the garden. I usually blame racoons I see there tracks. I once saw their tracks on the glass of my bedroom door. At least I THINK they were raccoon tracks. I thought they were looking for bugs in the soil. Could be that damn "coon" cat. That thing is HUGE!

How far are you willing to drive for a good restaurant?

I don't bat an eye at 45 minutes to Napa or San Francisco. 60-70 minutes to Sonoma is an event. The only thing within walking distance of my homed is a 7-11, but there are decent Thai, sushi, and Mexican restaurants whithin walking distance of my office for lunch.

What's Going In Your Garden Now?

Raccoons? Possum? Bears? I have to cage mine to try to keep critters and varmints out the first week or so. I guess they are looking for grubs or something?

Are those earth boxes? I just bought two of those. Have you used them before? How did it go?

What's Going In Your Garden Now?

Those that make it in from the garden are boiled briefly, then a little butter and salt. last night I had some slice and sautéed with corn kernels at Ad Hoc in Napa. Yum. my
My guinea pig gets the tendrils, which seem a little tough to me.

What's Going In Your Garden Now?

No sign of life.

What's Going In Your Garden Now?

Wow! Where do you garden? Zucchini is blooming already? Wait....artichokes, garlic......must be NorCal or or Central Cal coast? I LOVE your pictures!

What's Going In Your Garden Now?

I am ALMOST, but not quite, sick of sugar snap peas. I started a second planting abut six weeks ago, the ones I started in Novemeber are almost done, and I m off cooking peas for a bit.

Tonight I am making the favas with garlic scapes.

I agree. He has just the right amount of exposure.

'Chopped' trio vs. team Garces on Iron Chef America [spoilers]

Son called, and I missed the last part. Dang!

Wow, Tamarind

Worked out great. Not hard at all. Most is frozen in my ice cube tray. WAY easier than fava beans, which I will be harvesting shortly. I am totally making Patti Jinich.

Oh, wait...she's a person....

The Ultimate Pound Cake

Tehama, I am stalking the secrets of the Elvis Presley cake, and ended up stalking you as well. Looks like you are from around Raleigh/Durham. I will be there for daughters graduation around May 12th. Any suggestions?

The Ultimate Pound Cake

Bumping this. What is it about the cold oven? I love this pound cake, but often get unpredictable results, and uneven texture.

Wow, Tamarind

My husband, from Jamaica, eats "tamarind balls" which are too sweet, and can lead to GI upset. But I recently bought what seemed like a very fresh box of tamarind pods. What a great tart! I am soaking the peeled "seeds".

Yuca instead of potatoes - salt cod recipe

Bookmark. I'm sure I could figure this out over time, but why is yuca okay when "sweet potato" is not? Is it a carb or allergy thing?

Richard Blais in "Reinventing The Meal"

I'm glad too!
