Hay Market, San Jose - Vegetarian banh mi sandwiches, "Willow Glen hot dog" - anyone try it yet? I've tried it a few times now, since it is a few blocks from my house. It is excellent! They are not afraid of flavor, which so many neighborhood eateries are! The veg banh mi is spicy, you can actually taste black pepper in the crust of the hanger steak. I went there for lunch on Tuesday and they had a prawn (with their heads on) and meatball dish, it was fantastic. The wine and beer list is funky in a fun way, with excellent prices, (I believe most are right at or a drop below retail). The atmosphere is casual, with communal tables and is a great addition to the South Bay. |

How to safely (hot) smoke salmon Thanks! |

How to safely (hot) smoke salmon We have smoked salmon numerous times, however after rinsing our dry brine (it brined for over 12 hours) we noticed that the salmon was not as cured as usual. Is it safe to go ahead and smoke it, or do I need to brine it again? |

Are we the only ones with his & hers butter? This was one of our big fights when we first got together, I thought Safeway (Lucerne) brand was just fine, he could only buy Challenge, (when we couldn't afford it) I have given up my fight, Challenge is now our cheap butter!!!! |

Thanks for all of the replys, no the chicken was not supposed to be raw. It was a pure case of a Sat nite too busy and trying to keep up. The first bite was over-cooked which I told my fiance and the second was raw chicken, Oil to Hot, and cooks (not chefs) trying to get food out as quickly as possible, I think by the time we were served we had been seated for 7 minutes. |

Last night, my fiance and I went to a highly popular hip Fusion Asian restaurant and were served raw chicken. The dish was an appetizer of Chicken Lollipops. We each had one, then I bit into another and it was completely raw. Not just slightly pink, but raw, it took only a second in my mouth to decide that it wasn't cooked at all. We tried to move pass and order a salad and another app, but I couldn't get over it. I picked open the last pop and noticed it was also completely raw. We let the waiter now, and he obviously apologized, but I still couldn't trust the kitchen for the rest of the night, and stepped outside while my FI dealt with the bill. The manager came over, completely appologized and comped the bill, we then left. What are your thoughts on it and would you go back to try the restaurant again? TIA |
