Come for the view, leave for the food

Travelle, in the Langham Hotel, is a beautiful room (great bar views), with good-looking neighbors. The restaurant staff has a great pedigree (Tru). Unfortunately, the food does not follow. With only four tables occupied at a recent visit for dinner, there were curious lags in courses arriving, especially for dessert (15 - 20 minutes). My wife's vegetables were burnt rather than roasted. I had mentioned we were celebrating our daughter running the marathon. When dessert arrived an additional dessert was included (without asking) for our daughter. When the bill arrived, after another long delay, they charged us for this dessert! If I don't ask for something, I shouldn't have to pay for it.

Avoid this place!

I'm a little late to the discussion, but I would agree with you QCM that there are fewer hounds here than expected. We moved recently from Tucson / Chicago.

If you want good innovative food, try Greenville. It's swarming with restaurants, lots of creativity, very interesting. It's also 2 hours away.

One restaurant I haven't seen mentioned yet is 46 in Kannapolis. Cheap, good, nice service.

I would avoid 131 Main Ballantyne location at all costs. The servers seem to know they are special, and you need to encourage them.

It seems to us that creative chefs go elsewhere because the people here aren't interested in creativity, they want their short ribs, steak, one fish, roast chicken, maybe lamb. Start putting the routine restaurants menus side-by-side, and see how similar they are.

Dandelion Market is one of the few lights currently; hopefully other chefs will be motivated.

Middle Eastern north of Lincoln Park but in the city?

Coming in from Charlotte for a weekend. Any non-Turkish places that work?

What's Masouleh like?

Also, how long of a wait at Jam about 1 on a Sunday?

Thanks

How to lower the amount of salt in pork ribs?

We've bought some ribs that apparently have been brined, leaving them very salty tasting. I don't think soaking would be good for the meat. Any other ideas? Thanks

Counteract too much butter taste?

I made an icing, that for a variety of reasons, has too much of a butter taste to it. Is there anything simple that I can add to cut the taste?

5 Canadian Girls Gone Wild in Chicago

Zocalo will definitely support 5 wild girls; they have some nice deals on nights other than Saturday. A different type of Mexican would be Frontera Grill / Topolobampo; you might be able to say hi to the Pres if he's in town :). The Metromix website is a good source for narrowing down the type of party you're looking for. Sunda might fit for barhopping. As to Good Friday - I don't know of any restaurant closed because of that.

Have a brewski for me!

Replacement for salmon in Istanbul?

I would like to prepare a dish for the family I will be staying with at the end of June. Here in the U.S., I use salmon with a honey mustard sauce wrapped in philo. Is there a comparable fish available in Istanbul?
