Bend, Spokane, or Coeur d'Alene delicacies

The family and I will be traveling from San Francisco through to Bozeman MT in August. I was wondering if there is any unique local food items I need to try in each area? (ex “Beef on Wick” – Buffalo). Anything I should not leave each city without noshing on?

I will be spending 7 days in Maui (Kihei) Whenever I travel to new areas I search for unique local foods (ex “Beef on Wick” – Buffalo). Anything I should not leave Maui without trying? Also, any great cheap eats?

what is the difference between montreal smoked beef and pastrami?? [Moved from the Quebec Board]

I was always under the impression that Montreal Meat was made with brisket and real NY pastrami was made with plate. MM is also almost always barrel cured, while pastrami is sometimes wet cured.

I grew up fishing off the north coast of Long Island, so I grasp the "what I catch tastes better" concept. I am also at home chowing on a boney whitefish (sounds similar to the East Coast Porgy or Humpback). I look forward trying the Walleye.

So to answer your questions, I am flying in from San Francisco. So Walley is pretty alien to me. How would you describe the fish? Is it a whitefish? Oily?

Growing up in NY I did enjoy pickled herring, although what I grew up with may be completely different from MN pickled herring...
