Odd experience at Warrington Wegman's

Funny reading this--it's not just that part of the store with the outrageous memory problems. A few months back, I was in the back by the natural foods looking for the 2 liter container of Honest Tea's Moroccan Mint, which they've carried for who knows how long. I didn't see it, and there was an employee right there. I asked her why they didn't have it these days, and she immediately pinged a manager. He came and insisted to me, very firmly, that such a product NEVER existed. As in never in the history of mankind or Wegman's. I jokingingly offered to bring him an empty container from home and he continued to deny that it existed and became red in the face doing so. It became kind of hilarious, actually.

What's going on with the management here? Is it some sort of an Area 51 spokesman training program in disguise?

Need Doylestown recs for college visit

Without having to drive to Chalfont, Warrington, Willow Grove or Montgomeryville, try Maxwell's on Main right in the center of Dtown--across from the courthouse. Excellent selection of all kinds of craft beers, great casual food--the big ol' nacho!--right in the heart of town.
You can't go wrong with Cross Keys or Crossroads, but Crossroads has the better coffee. Near campus, you can't miss with the Duck Deli, but they don't have a liquor license. Porterhouse will be jammed that weekend.

Free range or best turkey in Bucks?

Try calling A Happy Farm in Kintersville. Free range and they've got tables at the Wrightstown and Doylestown farmers markets on Saturdays.

Vietnamese in Montgomery and Bucks County?

There's also Basil Leaf in Newtown, in the shopping center with Genardi's.
I go to all of the above routinely. Telford is most definitely worth the trip. I'd put Pho and Beyond a very close second. Then Savor, then Basil Leaf (good food, but service can be iffy).

From Solebury, I'd take 202 to 152 North, turning at Borghi's. About 30 minutes, but a very pretty ride.

Restaurants everyone loves--except you

Know it's just over into NJ, but Lambertville counts, right?

Hamilton Grill Room. I really don't get the good reputation this place has. Condescending and incompetent service (dropped a serving spoon on delivering a side dish and never came back??) to mediocre food at high prices. I went with high expectations and was devastated by the reality. Oysters came with the liquor spilled out of them, servers did a dump and run with all of the dishes, a steak was delivered without a steak knife--and it took 10 minutes for one to arrive.

Where can I get raw whole ducks in Philly or suburbs? (moved from PA board)

A Happy Farm in Kintnersville has fresh ducks.

Looking for best pho in Philadelphia

Cafe Diem is definitely worth checking out. But know this: It is really small--like being in your grandmother's parlor. Go with maybe one other person. The service isn't that bad. It's just a very small family operation and just show some patience. And if you also like Bun Bo Hue, you will be in heaven.

New Hope. Need suggestons.

It's wonderful. Reasonable price, excellent food. Last time I was there, even the side of broccoli was amazing.

New Hope. Need suggestons.

Cross the bridge to Lambertville for dinner, and eat at the bar at Deanna's.

Just Eat by Brown Gold - Never again

Seems to be too late--Just Eat is closed. New owners of the same spot, which now has a sign that says Copper Leaf Grill.

Too bad--I really liked eating at the grill part of Just Eat and the family that ran it seemed to really have their heart in it.

Good cheesecake in Bucks/Trenton?

My husband is a transplant from North Jersey, where there's pretty great cheesecake available everywhere. His birthday is coming up soon, and there's really only one option for a birthday cake. Any suggestions?

Doylestown-Breakfast

I second givemecarb's post (sorry, almost wrote "givemecrabs"!). I love La Maison's pan au chocolate. So relaxing on a Saturday morning if you're up to leave the eggs and toast path.

Bucks County trip

The last one Famdoc mentions is actually the Summer Kitchen, in Penn's Park in Wrightstown Twp. I second the outdoor seating recommendation. Their desserts are great there, too. Great bread pudding.

Black pudding around Philly?

Any idea where I could find the real thing? Or, Peta forgive me, pig's blood? My father-in-law's recipe starts with having a firm grip on the pig. (I'm not kidding)

NEPA pizza ala "Tommy's" of the 60s (now "Pizza L'oven")

SD--How did you do your dough? Just the recipe, rolled to a rectangle? What temperature (and for how long) did you finally settle on?

house-sitting in furlong, bucks co. any recommendations?

I live in Furlong. I wouldn't rule out Blue Sage in Southhampton, which is maybe 15 minutes away but so worth the trip. All local Bucks Co. produce, I believe.

Bucks Cty exceptional food wanted!

I agree on Ooka, Just Food and Jules, but has anyone else out there been to the new restaurant Honey in Doylestown yet? I went last week and was blown away. It was full on a Wednesday night. Excellent food and standout presentation. Every course was better than the last--dessert was a chocolate-chile creme brulee that I still can't stop thinking about.

Restaurants Near Temple University

Definitely go in to CC for dinner, but for a good gyro and excellent cheese fries, the Owl's Nest on Broad Street on the north end of campus is the mainstay for students. Nothing fancy in any way, but OK to sit down and chill out. And you should chill out, considering what you'd be doing to your arteries. :)

Doylestown Area Restaurant

G Goo, Have you tried Ristorante Il Melograno? I'm also new to the area (one year), and I also have found most downtown Doylestown restaurants to be a costly letdown. The one place that I've really enjoyed is Il Melograno, just up the road in the Genardi's supermarket shopping center. Very attentive service and excellent food that's worth the price.

Keep striking out in Bucks County

I hear you on this. You might want to try the Heart of Oak pub just north of where 413 crosses 263. Good beers on tap, good burgers (and fries!) and a pretty calm atmosphere and no smoking. Also, the Lion's Heart Pub in Washington Xing, which has even better burgers, including a good lamb-burger, and Belgian-style fries. Only quibble with them is the nerve they had to charge a cover ($10) on St. Pat's, even though they're British and not Irish. It's the little things...

Siam Thai (Lambertville NJ)

I'm new to the area (in exile from North Jersey), but I routinely light a candle in hopes of having a good Vietnamese within a short drive. To me, Laotian/Cambodian means someone is listening.
My food voodoo has worked so far in terms of my my kaffir leaf supply--I hear a Whole Foods is coming to the intersection of 263 and 313.

Siam Thai (Lambertville NJ)

Wow, I'm glad it's not just me. I was there for the first time for lunch a few weeks ago. The food was soso, but the service was not great at all. I felt like I was intruding--although they weren't too busy (maybe four tables in use).
I had heard that there's another Thai restaurant in Lambertville now. Is that true?

Best Wedding Reception Location(s) is NEPA?

I'll second that on the Woodlands. They can do some nice setups for an outside on-site wedding, too, if you decide to not go the church route. Excellent for after-wedding festivities, too.
