Who serves PIE in the metro..... real pie, good pie??

I know I know it says pie IN DALLAS....well its not everyday we have a pie discussion so here is my suggestion. When we head out to Edom, Tx to pick blackberrys in the summer we go to The Shed in downtown Edom. It is the typical 1 stop sign town and The Shed is right there. Great pie.

BTW Edom is halfway between Canton and Tyler just south of I20.

AND....Another great stop out that way is the Dairy Palace just off I20 in Canton.

Maybe I need to start a East Texas I20 thread???

In Addison: is it possible to get great brisket tacos without going all the way to Mia's?

Just a couple miles north of Addison there is a place called Mena's. Great brisket tacos. Place doesn't get much press, but it has been there several years. Its on Marsh Lane at Trinity Mills. Good margaritas also.

There is the hole in the wall Taco H near the 114/William D Tate intersection. Cheap and good tacos. It shares a kitchen with Baja Mexican place where I have never ate. I always go to the door that says Taco H. they also serve cold beer.

Beer and Food

I would check out old downtown Plano on 15th St. You have one of my favorites called Urban Crust. Also in the same area is Kelly's Eastside and Fillmore Pub. IMO these 3 places have above average food and are very casual.

If you want beer selection overload with average food head down the road to Addison and go to The Flying Saucer.

Best Fish and Chips (Dallas)

I will vote for Fillmore Pub in old downtown Plano. Seabreeze would be a close 2nd........Don't know if its true or not, but I thought I heard the owners of the Fillmore used to work at the Monk????

Best Sandwich in Dallas

I would have to agree that Jimmys has darn good sandwiches. I have had the Cuban and it is good, but I usually go the Italian Stallion.
If you ever get the chance to go to NYPD Deli in Euless....try the Soprano. Great sandwich. Its just off 183 on Industrial. My 2 cents.

New Braunfels

When we go to New Braunfels, we usually go down the Comal River or go to Schlitterbaun Water Park....so after that type of day we want something very casual. We go to Pat's Place.

Billadelphia's - An Authentic Philly Cheesesteak in DFW

I have to agree (off the subject I know) that the Soprano from NYPD ranks as one of my favorite sandwiches off all time. I work near the airport and when we are busy someone will run down and get a bag of sandwiches. I always get the Soprano. I have yet to try one at the shop.....always take out. That tells you right there how good it is. Sometime I will try one fresh out of the kitchen. As for Biladelphias.....I have tried it and thought it was ok. I have nothing to compare it to as I have never been to Philly. Would not make a special trip to go there.....I would drive some distance to go to NYPD tho. One more thing....How does Texadelphia stay in business???? I have given them a couple of shots at different locations and I just don't get it. Peace out.

Carrabba's - a non-steak chain with a great steak

We went last night to the this location. I have always wondered why they didn't get a little more respect. We have been to this location probably 10 times and we always think this will be the time we get bad service. It has never happened. My favorite dish is the Pollo Rosa Maria. My wife gets the Sirloin Bryan which was not on he menu, but they will make it for you upon request. I have also had their seafood specials and they have been very good. I know...I know they are a chain, but they are very good and I agree about the Macoroni Grill comment twinwillow.

[DAL] Steakhouse other than Salt Grass?

If I was given a choice I would definitely go with The Keg over Saltgrass. I ate at Saltgrass the other day for lunch on someone elses dime and it was good, but I have gone to the Keg in Plano about 5 times and always enjoyed it. I walked away definitely feeling I had got my moneys worth. The money spent would definitely be in line what is spent at Saltgrass. I would rate Saltgrass along with Texas Land and Cattle and the "late" Plano Tavern. Not bad, but just not as good as The Keg.

Another place that is not mentioned much now a days is Pauls Porterhouse. Its the last restaurant standing of the "original restaurant row" at 35 and Walnut Hill. The prices are up with the premium steakhouses. I love this place. The atmospere is definitely unique. Its hard to pass this place on the way to my favorite steakhouse off all... Pappas Bros.

So......where did you end up taking your parents????? You can't leave us hanging?????

Best Soup/Chowder/Stew/Bisque in D/FW

I will jump on the band wagon for Luna de Noche. Some of the best Tortilla Soup I have had. I like places that wait till they get to the table to pour the soup over the good stuff.
Chamberlains Fish Market always has a good chowder in their rotation.

Where to go before concert at the AAC - Dallas

Well we went to Hooters first around 5:45. The line was out the door, so we went around the corner to House of Blues. Bad news...3 hour wait. Not good when the concert starts at 8:00. So we went over to Dicks Last Resort. One hour wait. So back to Hooters we went and put our name on the list. Told 30 minutes and we sat down in 20 minutes. We be happy campers. No need to review Hooters. I think we have all been and formed our opinions. I will say everyone there was hustling their ... off. Next time I will arrive a little earlier.

beer-batter fish 'n chips in dallas ?

Two places come to mind. Sea Breeze in Plano (Preston at Spring Creek). My favorite right now is Fillmore Pub in old downtown Plano. It is near 75 Central and 15th St. Like the others.....don't know for sure if it is beer battered, but both are darn good.

Proper Guinness in DFW?

We tried the Filmore about a month ago. Just happened to be in the neighborhood looking for a Christmas present and thought we would give it a try. Don't have any overseas drinking experience, but I thought the Guisness was very good. We also had one of their cheese boards. Very good. Tried one of the 3 or 4 variety boards and it was about $10? Good way to try some different cheese. Comes with the usual assortmant of crackers and veggies.

Mena's Tex-Mex - Carrollton

Just wanted to put a good word in for Mena's Tex Mex in Carrollton at the corner of Trinity Mills and Marsh (SE corner). Great service along with wonderful food. Been 3 or 4 times this past year and never had a bad experience. The brisket tacos are my favorite. Give this hidden gem a try and I think you will be happy.

South Padre

I have commented on this before, but I cannot resist to pass along my favorites. We have been down the last 2 summers. Our favorites are Dirty Al's and the South Padre Brew Company. We did not like Amberjacks. If you have the time and $$$ rent a dune buggy from Uncle Buggies and head up the beach. Just remember it is a stick, so don't waste your time if that is a problem. Have fun.

Dirty Al's Seafood and Bait Shop is very good. We also enjoyed the South Padre Brewing Company. Did not like Amberjack's.

South Padre / Port Isabel Recs

Just made it back from a week in New Braunfels and South Padre. Had a wonderful time with fantastic weather.
In New Braunfels we ate in the condo most of the time. We did make it to Pat’s one night. Very reasonable prices on the beer and burgers. Fun atmosphere and great service.
In Padre we had to go to Dirty Al’s. He has added on to the place and spruced it up a bit. My son had a pound of crab legs. I think they cost $11. Wife and I ordered a pound of peel and eat shrimp and a half pound of the New Orleans style peel and eat shrimp (served warm in some sort of sauce). I would guess Old bay and butter??? Very good once again.
Another night we tried the South Padre Brewing Company. We asked several locals where to eat and this place was the only one mentioned twice so we decided to give it a try. We ordered pizza and sampler of their beers. The pizza was very good. My son had the cheese pizza with grilled quail added on to it. We had to steal a couple slices it tasted so good. We ordered half smoked ham with fresh jalapenos and the other half sausage with mushroom. I wish more places offered fresh jalapeno. I was very surprised about this place. Was not expecting much and we couldn’t quit talking about the pizza the rest of the trip.
We stopped by the Wanna Wanna and decided not to go as the parking lot was full. Good sign, but did not feel like messing with parking.
We stopped on the way out of town at B&A seafood and picked up some shrimp to take back with us. Did not see a place called Zesties.
Side note….we rented a dune buggy at a place called Uncle Buggies. We took it all the way to the north end of the island where the road ends and went up the beach a few miles. You can go around 25 miles until it ends. We didn’t have time or the $$$ to go that far. We rented it for 3 hours and had a blast. Make sure you can drive a stick before you rent. The guy Dale who ran the place told us he couldn’t believe how many people get in and ask what the third pedal is for???
All in all another fun trip to Padre. I hope this place never changes.

South Padre / Port Isabel Recs

We went to South Padre last summer and went out a few times.
Try Dirty Al's right across from Schlitterbaun. Good seafood for a excellent price.
Don't go if you want fine dining. Its not the nicest looking place.
We tried Amberjacks and was not impressed. Would not go back.
We went on a fishing trip and caught some fish so we ate in the condo a couple nights.

Let us know how it goes and what you find. We are heading down to New Braunfels for a few days and then hitting Padre for another few days in June.

[Dallas] Mooyah Burgers & Fries

Went to Mooyahs for lunch yesterday with my wife and 10 yr old son. We all loved it. The meat was definitely a cut above. I ordered a mooyah size burger with cheese, mayo, mustard, lettuce, tomato and jalapenos. Mooyah size means double patty where the junior burger is a single patty. As for the fries....I like them. I tried some with the vinegar and thought it was different, but good. The fries could have used a little more seasoning, but maybe I will ask for that next time. They definitely make every burger to order so I am sure they would do a order of fries next time. We ordered 2 mooyah size burgers (1 with cheese) and 1 junior burger with cheese and bacon and a large order of fries with 3 waters and it was $18.
I list some of my favorite Dallas burger joints as Snuffers and Kellers. Mooyah is definitely in the same category as Kellers with the thin style pattys (just with a better quality meat).

In Plano- need recs.

http://www.springcreekbarbeque.com/lo...

I would say the closet location for Spring Creek would be Addison or Richardson, depending on which way your heading.
I would like to add that at the intersection of Preston and Plano Pkwy is a good mexican place called Luna de Noche. Excellent tortilla soup. Right behind that is a grrek joint called Zorbas that is very good.
Just to the north is Preston and Park. You will find some chain restaurants and a local favorite burger joint called Snuffers. Make sure you order how you want your burger cooked or it will come out on the rare side. Some of the best cheese fries and is kid friendly. Also at that intersection is a Whole Foods Market.
For a mexican breakfast try Plano Tortilla Factory (Aparacios) in old downtown Plano. Its about a 10 minute drive east from your intersection.
Hope this helps out and enjoy
