Soffritto and Ole Tapas on Kirkwood Highway. Two Stones Pub for outstanding beer list and elevated bar food.
Reading Terminal Breakfast
Beck's Cajun Cafe breakfast po boy- eggs, cheese and andouille on a baguette. It is my favorite in RTM.
As an alternative, coffee at Old City Coffee coupled with various baked goods of your choice from several places in the market.
Chopped All Stars 4/8/12 with spoilers
I think I've seen bottle swigs in other episodes with no comments from the judges. In a previous "all-stars" Claire Robinson was wearing a glove that sure looked like it was containing blood yet I don't recall any mention of her cutting herself. For Chopped, cutting oneself seems to be the graphically dramatic prize and thought it odd there was no mention.
Food Network Does It Again
Well, yes I did see the "homemade mayonnaise" ingredient. I find it laughable that anyone would ask someone to make homemade mayo, which does require a bit of skill, then feel the need to tell them how to make a ham sandwich. I don't agree that making a sandwich introduces less talented to the world of food. It introduces them to making a sandwich, nothing more.
Breakfast in Newport, RI
We stayed at the Hyatt for a few days in December and breakfast there was very good. They could easily accommodate 40.
Fresh Sardines for Roasting Whole
The new Whole Foods near Chadds Ford had them last week but you might want to call around to see who has what.
Inexpensive lunch on road from Philly to Rehoboth Beach, DE
Two hours and you're almost there. However, little further up the road in Milton is Po Boys Creole and heading south on 1 won't be horribly out of the way. (Milton is also the home of Dogfish Head.) An hour or so away might put you near St. Georges- St. Georges Country Store. More Cajun food. In Odessa is Cantwell Tavern.
Rhode Island Shore Dinner
We ate at Matunuck Oyster Bar yesterday and loved it. Although a little chilly, we along with several others, sat outside. They lit up the outdoor heaters for those who wanted them. I had seared scallops with truffle butter, wild mushroom risotto and grilled vegetables. My wife had clams with linguine in a wine and olive oil sauce. Both dishes were outstanding and the scallops in particular were perfectly cooked. Both dishes were pretty simple and thus let the fresh seafood do the talking. Service was outstanding. The servers not only knew about their various oysters, they were outwardly proud of the fact that the Matunuck oysters came from their own farm. We hope to get there again and I'm kicking myself for not getting there sooner.
Blue Parrot Bar & Grille in Wilmington
So, it wasn't on the menu like you see at the bottom of the page "for parties of six or more" and they just tacked it onto the bill? I'm no lawyer but that doesn't sound legal to me. I've not been there recently but had eaten there several times. If that's their unwritten policy I won't be going back. If it is obviously stated somewhere, I can make a choice whether to stay or not. After I'm done eating it's a little late.
Glen Mills Whole Foods Market
I've gone to the Plymouth Meeting and Devon stores so it's not like it's anything new but I left the office early yesterday thinking I might get a beer and a slice of pizza, sit back and watch the fun. However, yes that parking lot was as full as I've ever seen it so I drove right on by. I'll likely stop there once the "tourists" are gone.
Baguette that actually tastes authentic
Another vote for St. Peter's. I don't know if they have the authenticity the OP is looking for but I'm addicted to them.
Also, try Bon Appetit north of Wilmington. Louisette who owns it is a French expat and particular about what she makes and sells.
Newport, RI Restaurant Itinerary Recommendations
We enjoyed Mooring very much. Their "bag of doughnuts" are addictive. A seat at the bar is pleasant and a little more casual. We also liked Perro Salado and Scales and Shells (which is only open for dinner.) Pour Judgement is a favorite of ours- neighborhood bar with very good beer selection and good bar food with some a few notches above bar food. We've had good food a few times at Clarke Cooke and didn't find it stuffy at all.
Woman suing Nutella over false nutrition claims
Coincidentally, at a restaurant yesterday for dessert, I had a banana, Nutella waffle. I ate all of it. Can I sue someone for something?
Looking for the best destination restaurants in RI, Mass, and CT
The Alchemist in Waterbury, VT? You do know that it got flooded and is no more.
The decline of the Italian Hoagie
I've been to a few Primo's outposts and found them to vary from excellent to mediocre in terms of freshness of bread and construction of the innards. As a chain now, I guess that has to be expected. Loved Sarcone's but haven't been to Cosmi's yet.
Good food near West Chester University
Ditto on Eclat. Great chocolates. We frequent High Street Caffe for Cajun. Breakfast at Market Street Grill. Carlino's Market is fun for a variety of things.
Newport, RI - Need help with the name of a restaurant?
Haven't been. When you described it I remembered having walked by but my wife keeps dragging me to Pour Judgement.
Newport, RI - Need help with the name of a restaurant?
There is a restaurant with deck there called At the Deck. http://www.waiteswharf.com/
Big Fish Grill (Glen Mills, PA)
Thanks for the review. How would you compare it to Big Fish in Wilmington?
Rankings of Gatropubs/Pubs in Philly Region
A couple I think underrated places we've been to recently:
Sidecar- Went for Sunday brunch, beer and bloody Marys. Very good food and great selection of beer. Nice neighborhood bar vibe. I wished I lived near there.
Flying Pigs in Malvern- Very good bar food and great selection of beer. A number of Belgians and a separate list of bottle conditioned beers. Neighborhood bar vibe but family friendly too, good service.
We have a habit of going to Victory when out in that direction and sometimes Station Taproom. On the Mainline, Teresa's is our favorite. Not so keen on TJ's, Drafting Room or Ron's. Beer selection good at these but food and vibe don't measure up compared to others.
Restaurant owner Terry Valenti accused of falsifying Iron Chef experience
"...train wreck that I could not tear myself away from."
I think I spent a couple hours at the office today reading and following the various links. What a psycho-social meltdown. Why this isn't a reality tv series I don't know. Some network out there has to be crass and low enough to turn it into one. Food Network is obviously up to the task (or down depending how you view it) but maybe they need to team up with one of the other low brow sensationalist channels to maximize the melodrama. Combo of food, crime drama, spurned lovers, nut jobs, it has it all.
I understand gangs don't like it much when someone fakes membership like this guy apparently has done, so I can only assume at some point there will be a mob of toque wearing, rolling pin wielding CIA thug/chefs who beat him senseless.
Nino's Dilworthtown W. Chester.............Why Did I Bother?
Agree. You have to state each and every item you want on it. There is no "all the other stuff."
Dinner with Executive Boss and Clients [Wilmington, DE]
How about Chelsea Tavern? http://www.chelseatavern.com/ Upscalish without being pretentious, good food.
Did Your Mom Repeatedly Cook a Dish You Despised?
None taken. My therapist said the same thing.
In another bit of food related psychodrama, when I was around 7 or 8, my mother thought it would be fun to have a contest to see who could eat the most food between my cousin and me. It was mostly candy and at one point my mother sent my sister to the store to get more candy since we were running out. I ended up on the bathroom floor throwing up. Ah, memories.
Did Your Mom Repeatedly Cook a Dish You Despised?
Liver and canned spinach. The liver, as if that wasn't bad enough, was cooked to shoe leather. I had to finish it all, cold congealed, sitting at the kitchen table for hours in what seemed days, tears streaming down my face.
Thanks for bringing up the subject.
Good Truffle Oil in New Castle Co De
If I were being very particular about what oil I was using, I'd likely go to the olive oil store in West Chester. A Taste of Olive on High St. Then, I'd go to Eclat a couple doors down and get some chocolate truffles. I mean you're right there, how could you not stop in?
Who eats "Peanut Butter Pop Tart" Sandwiches?
Just not enough stuff in the middle to ever get my attention. However, and on a related matter, my wife used to buy Little Debbie brownies and I would coat the top of them with peanut butter to make them edible. My son, giving me the greatest complement a child can bestow upon his father exclaimed, "Dad you're a genius."
I put Nutella on everything- cardboard, asphalt shingles, you name it. But, I suppose that would be a completely different thread.
Brandywine Valley
Lunch supplies? In West Chester, Carlino's Market. While there, stroll around the corner to Eclat Chocolates then the olive oil store a few more doors down. Northbrook Marketplace (formerly Orchards) on Rt. 842 not far from Longwood. Just outside Wilmington, Janssen's Market on Rt. 52. There's also a Wegman's in Downingtown.
Breakfast at RTM on a Saturday?
Breakfast po boy at Beck's. Eggs, Andouille and cheese on a baguette. A hefty sized sandwich for only $3.95.
