What is your favorite restaurant in Wilmington?
Thanks for mentioning Mazzellas, it has become a favorite of ours over the past few months. The pizza is the best in town and the chicken cacciatore is great.
The Iron Hill serves very tasty chicken sandwiches and the beer is decent as well. That is generally the meal we order on Fridays when we don't really want to go out but don't want to eat in either.
Cajun Kate's at Booth's Corner has been something of a revelation. It is a great place to pick up a container of jambalaya or gumbo big enough to satisfy two healthy appetites.
Where to buy Mexican Coke in Delaware or southern PA?
I saw that as well. Ever since I started this thread it seems like it is popping up everywhere!
Where to buy Mexican Coke in Delaware or southern PA?
I live in Wilmington and figure that there must be a Mexican grocery store around that sells the "real thing." Please let me know if you are aware of such a location.
Best Chocolate Cake in DELCO and Chester County?
A few friends of ours are visiting us on Saturday and after entertaining them we plan to retire with some red wine and chocolate cake. Because we are relatively unfamiliar with local bakeries we are planning on simply buying a Trader Joe's cake. However, we wanted some recommendations of local delicious, decadent chocolate cake that would complement the wine well so that we have some other options.
We live in North Wilmington and would be willing to drive up to 40 minutes for the right cake. We look forward to you weighing on the matter!

We would also be willing to drive to Chester or Delaware Counties in PA since we live just south of the PA/DE state line.
Best sandwiches and fries in/around OCNJ?
My wife and I are going to be spending the night in Ocean City on Friday night. We have never eaten in the area and are just looking for something tasty and casual. We will probably be ordering grilled chicken sandwiches or turkey burgers. Where do you recommend we place reservations? So far we are leaning towards The Island Grill in town.
Central Park Restaurant in Springfield?
We had one of those restaurant.com $25 gift certificates that we purchased for $2 so we decided to give it a shot. The food was OK but not the least bit innovative. My wife had a penne meal with chicken and jumbo shrimp. Unfortunately they used an excessive amount of garlic in the dish so she only was able to eat about a fifth of her plate. I had Chicken Marsala with a double-stuffed potato and green beans. It was good solid meal, but no better than I have had many times before at various establishments.
Our waitress was a bit on surly side but the main problem with Central Park is a total lack of ambiance. The place doesn't appear that it has been renovated since the 70s and the decor is similar to that which you would find at your average "family restaurant." They also piped in cheesy disco music throughout the evening. To say that their customer base is geriatric would be an understatement.
Long story short, we will never go here again even though we have another one of those $25 certificates.
Closest excellent pizza to Wilmington, DE?
Mazzella's is far and away our favorite local pizza place. The cheese with extra sauce is to die for! Pizza By Elizabeth's is good for a change of pace but is a bit overpriced if you are just ordering take out. I think the ambiance that the physical restaurant offers is factored into the price of the pizza and other menu items so as long as you are dining at their Greenville location it is worth the expense. We plan to take an old college friend and his girlfriend there for dinner when they visit us later this month.
Thanks all for restoring our faith in Delawarean pizza!
Central Park Restaurant in Springfield?
My wife and I are thinking about trying out this relatively new establishment tomorrow night. Have any of you dined there in the past? What were your impressions?
What is your favorite restaurant in Wilmington?
My wife and I have lived in North Wilmington for 11 months and have only tried a few area restaurants (Deep Blue - very good but perhaps a bit overpriced, Border Cafe - great food, amazing prices, no ambience, and Jasmine's on 202 - not overly impressed, the food was ok but bland).
We know that there must be some really good establishments out there that we simply have not discovered to this point and would love some recommendations. We are open to any kind of dining experience with food quality the paramount criterion.
We also were looking for one recommendation for a specific occasion. One of our college friend and his SO are coming to spend the night at our home in July and we want to take them out for a very casual dinner. Our friend basically orders burgers wherever we go so a good sandwich selection is a must and a cozy atmosphere is also desirable. Would Buckley's Tavern in Greenville fit the bill or should we be looking elsewhere?
Thanks!
Newark Delaware and environs
The Border Cafe offers delicious and amazingly priced Tex-Mex. The blackened chicken w/black beans and rice is my favorite. My wife always picks the Chicken Creole which is also quite tasty. Both dishes are priced under $10 and come with free homemade chips and salsa that is the perfect mix of salt and spice.
Nice Dinner in Rehoboth
My wife and I were very pleased with our meal at Fins on Rehoboth Avenue. My wife's lobster roll was delicious with huge chunks of lobster and just enough mayo to keep everything together. My grilled chicken sandwich was one of the best that I have had in years. The size of the breast was very generous and moist. As something of a "french fry connoisseur" the ones served with the sandwich impressed me; they were perfectly seasoned and were fried to a perfect crispy state.
I would also recommend the house salad w/pine nuts and mustard vinaigrette.
While we were just there for sandwiches the entrees that were being served around appeared to be nicely portioned and well prepared. We would not hesitate the order an entree in the future and believe that this will become a regular stop for us when we are spending the weekend in Rehoboth.
Bonus Breakfast recommendation - Should you be in the mood for a tasty, exceptionally fresh breakfast in a relaxed atmosphere try the Greenman Juice Bar and Bistro. My wife tried what appeared to be the most popular item on the menu, the porridge. You get to choose what kind of milk (including soy) you want to be used as well as a sweetener (different sugars and honeys) and two mix-ins (fresh or dried fruit and nuts primarily). The resulting bowl of steaming porridge was very satisfying, certainly not your average bowl of instant Quaker Oats! Best of all it only costs $3.95.
While tofu is not generally my cup of tea I did enjoy the breakfast burrito that was also composed of fresh veggies, some sort of delicious curry. The waitress initially indicated that I could substitute turkey sausage for the tofu she returned a couple of minutes after I ordered to very apologetically explain that it would be possible as many of the ingredients for the burrito were pre-mixed with tofu. I decided to order the burrito anyway and was pleasantly surprised when the dish arrived. While there was still a bit of tofu in the burrito the chef had clearly removed the majority of it and, in it's place, provided a substantial serving of the aforementioned sausage. Now that's great service and earned the waitress a nice tip! While the service and food alone make the Greenman worthy of the visit I would be remiss not to mention that it is located only about a block from the beach of Wilmington Ave; making it very inviting for you to take a pleasant post-breakfast beach stroll.
Best restaurant for pre-theatre dinner in Wilmington?
Yes, we will be attending an 8 PM showing at Theatre N. It appears that Deep Blue has a nice pre-theatre prix fixe menu so we may make reservations there. Have any of you eaten at DB before? What were your impressions. Based on tripadvisor reviews it appears that the restaurant is well regarded by Wilmington standards.
Best restaurant for pre-theatre dinner in Wilmington?
My wife and I moved to Wilmington, DE in July and have since learned that there is a dearth of good restaurants in the area. However, I know that there must be some establishments in town offering tasty faire. We are planning a dinner and movie date for Saturday to belatedly celebrate Valentine's Day. We have not tried any restaurants in town, instead sticking to our old favorites in PA to this time.
Which restaurants are worth trying? We are open to most cuisines and are most concerned about the quality of food, in contrast to the type of food, served.
Recommendations needed: Princeton, NJ
My wife and I are traveling to Princeton for a concert on Wednesday. We have only visited the town once before and have never dined there. I have heard that most establishments offer relatively mediocre "college-faire" and we were hoping to eat somewhere that offers meals that are a bit more memorable. We are planning on having something relatively lights - a chicken-based entree, marinara-based italian dish, or even high quality pizza or sandwiches. Thus far the only restaurant that seems to fit the bill is Teresa's Cafe Italiano.
Do any of you have suggestions for where we should dine?
Best Chardonnay $20 or under?
My parents and a few family friends are coming over for dinner tonight and we want to buy a very tasty , balanced chardonnay with subtle butter and oak flavors. We have a Total Wine near our house so I have been browsing their selection and cross-checking ratings on cellartracker.
Thus far I have come up with a list of five chards that seem to fit the bill:
2007 Kali Hart ($14.99)
2007 La Crema ($16.99)
2006 Sonoma-Loeb ($17.99)
2006 MacRostie ($19.99)
2006 Smith-Madrone ($19.99)
Any feedback from your experiences drinking these wines would be much appreciated. Also, if you have had a delicious chard under $20 that matches our description but isn't part of my list please name it here.
Thanks for your input!
Closest excellent pizza to Wilmington, DE?
Thanks for your replies, it is heartening to know that good pizza is made in the vicinity. At the moment I am trying to decide between Elizabeth's, Mazzella's, and Dom's.
Closest excellent pizza to Wilmington, DE?
We moved here in July and have yet to find a good, let alone great, pizza in and around town. We have tried Paris Pizza (which makes a delicious chickensteak sandwich fwiw), Claymont Steak Shop, Cafe Riviera, and even resorted to ordered a pie from the local Papa John's. Very sadly the latter produced was the most edible of the four pizzas we have consumed over the past few months.
We live about two miles north of the city and two miles south of the PA/DE state line. Next Saturday we are having a casual get together with family and friends and plan to order pizzas but have no idea where we are going to buy them from. I would be willing to drive up to 30 minutes in any direction as long as the pizza is going to satisfy our guests and make it worth the effort.
Please tell me that a great pizzeria does in fact exist within ~20 miles of our home!
Best restaurants in and around Philadelphia?
My wife and I recently received promotions and now, two years after graduating from college, can finally afford fine dining. We live in Wilmington and have discovered that it is a culinary wasteland so we are turning our attention to Philly along with Chester, Delaware, and Montgomery Counties. I know that there are many PT'ers from the area so we would love to hear your recommendations. They need not be for true fine dining, solid inexpensive restaurant suggestions would also be appreciated. We are truly open to any cuisine although our favorites are Italian, Cajun, Creole, Thai, Chinese, Vietnamese, and Contemporary American.
Thanks!
Best Casual Dining options in Atlantic City?
Thanks for the recs, has anyone eaten at Casa Di Napoli at the showboat? It looks as though they have reasonably priced pizza and salads.
Best Casual Dining options in Atlantic City?
My wife and I are going to a concert at the House of Blues on Saturday. We will be attired rather casually and wanted to find out what options we have for a good pre-show dinner at an establishment that has a casual dress code.
Most of the decently reviewed restaurants appear to fall under the "business casual" category.
Help us out chowhounds!
Best Breakfast in the West Chester area?
My vote is for the Market St. Grille. Their egg white omelets are the best that I have ever had, their homefries are delicious, and the pancakes are tasty and about 12 inches in diameter. We have made the Grille a bi-monthly stop since moving to town in 2006 but are looking to branch out and try new places. We look forward to hearing your recommendations.
Good spots for quick dinner on UPENN's campus?
I am flying solo to the Medeski, Martin, and Wood show being held at the Irvine Auditorium next Tuesday. Since I am driving straight from work I will arrive with plenty of time to spare to enjoy a quick, relatively inexpensive dinner before the show begins. Are their any decent options right on campus?
HELP, I can't find decent pizza in Chester County!!!!
Try Ron's Schoolhouse in Lionville. Their pizzas, particularly their unique "oval" creations, are to die for. The dough is some of the tastiest I have had anywhere in the country and the toppings are always fresh and plentiful.
Best, healthiest Chinese in Chester County?
Much like the poster who is inquiring about high quality Chinese in Philadelphia I wanted to find out whether there are any reputable establishments in the suburbs. My fiancee and I moved to West Chester over a year ago but the only Chinese we have been able to find is the ultra fatty take-out variety. We would love to have an authentic sit-down experience complete with excellent tea service. However, we would also settle for lighter take-out faire. Thanks for your help!
Bakery in Exton area?
Seconded; Wegman's is synonymous with high quality food and arguably the finest grocery chain in the country.
Crawdaddy's in West Chester
This is an absolutely under appreciated gem of a restaurant in Chester County. My fiancee and I love cajun/creole food and have found Crawdaddy's to serve up the most delicious jambalaya and shrimp creole north of New Orleans! Furthermore, while you wouldn't know it from the outside appearance of the establishment, the dining room has a romantic ambiance with hardwood floors and a fireplace that is in active use throughout the winter months. We have noticed that the food and service has been slipping at the much lauded High Street Cafe, while everything is as good as ever down rt. 3 at CD's!
