No pun intended. Just looking to eat some really good caribbean bbq this Friday after going to a gallery opening in Bushwick. Have a car, so going to other neighborhood is no problem. Any recommendations?
Lunch at Indonesian consulate
I have a friend going up the Indonesia consulate for a visa, and I told her to make sure to have lunch at the cafeteria, which, at least last time I visited in 2001, had a great lunch in their cafeteria. Does anyone know if that is still happening, and what if anything is required to go in? Hard to find a good Indonesian restaurant in this town, so I hope it's still available to outsiders.

Out of town friend has demanded saturday night BBQ dinner. Any recommendations? I would prefer Brooklyn suggestions, but am open to Manhattan (preferably lower Manhattan). I know there's a great place up in the Bronx (in a parking lot, I think), but that might be too far afield. any help would be great.
Need Flushing recs before met game

I'm going out to shea on Sunday night to see the Mets and I can't bring myself to eat the too-expensive stadium fare. Any suggestions of what I might get in on Main Street (one stop away on the 7) that would be close to the subway and portable?
Bear in mind, I have to walk with this stuff and eat in the bleachers, so no soups, better not to have stuff that needs to be cut. Best to have buns, dumplings, maybe kebabs. Any recs about where to go that is fast and delicious?

red hook ball field starting time
I have been stopping off for quesadillas at the red hook ball fields ever sunday after my trip to fairway. I usually get there around 845 in the morning (yes, I'm a morning person); only lately, I've noticed that the various stalls have not been open for business at this point. This puts a major crimp in my central american food intake. Anyone know what's with the new hours (this past Sunday, I went back at about 10am and things were only getting cranked). Anything to do with new DOH regulations or are they just sleeping in?

Kang Suh on 32nd street just east of Broadway has short ribs on the bone. Really good.
Vietnamese Summer Roll Sauce?
why is it heresy to like the sauce? although the brown sauce you are thinking of is typically served with the fresh spring rolls (as opposed to the fried, which use the sauce you're thinking of), no one would look at you funny for eating either with either. here's a recipe from my vietnamese mother-in-law:
Nuoc Cham (dipping sauce)
1-cup water
4 cloves garlic
2 small bird chilies (or one large one, for less heat)
4-tbl nuoc mam
4-tbl sugar
4 tsp limejuice
1. In a high-sided saucepan, bring the water to a boil, then add the sugar. Stir gently until the sugar dissolves. Turn off the heat and put the mixture aside to cool.
2. Roughly chop the garlic and chili. Add to a mortar and pestle (or food processor), along with the fish sauce and limejuice. Mash and grind until you have a loose, reddish paste.
3. Combine the paste to the water-sugar mixture. Occasionally, the ratio of heat to sugar will need adjusting. My mother-in-law tastes the sauce, and if she coughs, teary-eyed, then it’s perfect.
Avocado recipes???
A bit of a strange one, but the Vietnamese make avocados into a sweet shake. avocado, ice, and sweetened, condensed milk, into the blender, whir until smooth. they're odd, but buttery and pretty good.
West Adams -- Any and All Suggestions
The Kobbler King on Jefferson is also a good bet, even though the location is technically in Jefferson Park, not West Adams. Peach and mixed berry are great. The savory ones (chicken, etc.) are good, too, although I would pass on "seafood cobbler."

my brother, an out of town chef, is visiting and wanted me to recommend the best places for middle eastern small plates. any suggestions? manhattan, queens, or brooklyn. even close by jersey. unlikely to go to the bronx.
