Kansas City Dining (unsolicited)
I'm glad you made that NewYears resolution- its always interesting to read where people are eating and what they think about it. magic with scallops isn't easy, they spoil quickly. Keep trying and ask about thier freshness. I look forward to your next post. you going to write about other cities?
Who's eaten at Kabuki? (KC)
you might call Jun's regarding shabu shabu- years ago when Jun still owned it they did shabu shabu on request. On trips to Japan shabu shabu was always my favorite meal - good luck with your search.

Where do the Kansas City Foodies like to shop for, what else, food?
I love reading all of these posts. So many places to try! There are many reasons to shop around, price, quality, taste, sustainability. Kansas Citys locally owned Hen House Markets and their partnership with Good Natured Family Farms is a leader (nationally) in the local food movement. Whole Foods might not have the cheapest milk...but they have mill from a local producer. Finding the best price may not be whats best for you or for us. Beware of the wal-mart as their price does not reflect the real cost of food production. By supporting as much LOCAL as we all can it will allow local food production to grow and diversify...great news for all us foodies.
KC BBQ-Anything New I Have to Try?
Life is good when you're eating well. Hopefully you'll be here with better weather next time.
Best bakery in KC?
- my wife had lunch at Artisan Francais and thought it was very good. It came on the recommendation of a transplanted Frenchy that lives in our neighborhood. She claims it is the best french bakery in KC in sometime.

KC BBQ-Anything New I Have to Try?
Hi SanDiego- I'm an LC's guy myself its always great. But if you haven't tried Jones BBQ in Kansas City, KS its well worth going there for lunch. Its small (15 seats?) and is located in Strawberry Hill/downtown KCK- 1805 N 10th (I think). Its been open more than 6 months but many haven't been there.
good luck.

Recommendation for Kansas City special occasion
I have to agree that PotPie is an excellent choice. Its not fussy and the last meal we had there was outstanding (food, service everything). Carmen's in Brookside is an excellent Italian restaurant and rivals plenty in Chicago and NY. If you want something different -have you tried MelBee's in Mission? small plates, great bar and people watching. If you want a food experience try Tatsu's. There's plenty of great food in this town- even if the previous post don't think so
Mexican food in Johnson County-KC
I have to get my two cents in here as well...
Casa Paloma at 83rd/Metcalf is outstanding. And I agree with the above, though not authentic, the french toast is delightful.
How about a Salvadorean restaurant? El Pulgarcito 5921 Merriam Dr - little or no ambience here but the food is great- the tamales are the best in the city and the pupas are some of my new favorite comfort food. (if you think there are better tamales you haven't had these) The soups, grilled fish etc all are authentic. This is not a red salsa and chip kind of place- the table condiments do include red sauce BUT the real treat is the spicy cabbage salad served in a quart jar on every table- oh my I love this place. english is the second language spoken there but don't be afraid to point at the menu its worth the time...and its so inexpensive its a crime.
best gooey butter cake in st. louis?
sorry to hear about lake Forest...sad day. THAT was one hell of a gooey butter cake
best gooey butter cake in st. louis?
I traveled to St Louis every month for business and would bring home 2, 3 sometimes 4 gooey butter cakes from the Lake Forest Pastry Shop 7737 Clayton Rd. 314-863-7400. I haven't been there in a while but my mouth is watering just thinking about it.
Recs for Good Eats in Overland Park Area
