Los Angeles 'hound ISO finger lickin' BBQ!
Though those are the hours for the Farmer's Market, not all of the Shed 2 restaurants are open every day. In fact, at one point in time the Pecan Lodge was only open Wed. to Sun. Just suggesting to confirm the hours before going.
And agree that it is the best brisket in Dallas.
Also, I think the Wednesday Special Beef Rib at Lockhart's is very bit as good as Smoke's beef rib.
Paris - Recommendations for 10th Anniversary Dinner
Parigi,
Thanks so much. I kind of thought my request was either (a) not specific enough or (b) those who frequently post recommendations believed the topic has been sufficiently addressed. I have perused chowhound.com for years, but never really used the search function all that much. I will check out the suggested threads and post back if there are any lingering questions.
Sincerely.
Paris - Recommendations for 10th Anniversary Dinner
I am self-moving this to the top. I am surprised that there have not been any responses. If I have been unclear in my request, please let me know. Thank you.
Nice Lunch Spot in Uptown/Downtown
Looking for recommendations to take a client for a nice lunch near downtown or uptown. Price is not a factor. But the client is older, so it needs to be quiet and low on ambient noise. Any thoughts?
Thank you in advance.
Paris - Recommendations for 10th Anniversary Dinner
My wife and I will be in Paris near the end of September celebrating our 10th anniversary, and I would like your recommendations for one or two "nicer" dinners. We are staying in the 7th Arr.
We are experienced travelers who tend to prefer what I would characterize as local spots. In other words, a place where a typical Paris resident would go for a special, celebratory occasion. While we both enjoy fine dining, we typically do not care for an overly formal atmosphere. Price per person is not a significant factor. Amazing food in a nice, comfortable setting is what we seek.
P.S. If it makes a difference, it has been several years since we were last in Paris.
Thank you so much for taking the time to read and respond.
Sincerely,
- D.
Trader Joe's in Dallas?
Same. Very close to my house. I really hope it happens. Being as objective as possible, I do believe that would be a profitable location for Trader Joe's.
Trader Joe's in Dallas?
For the sake of clarification, the petition is for Trader Joe's to be opened in the Lake Highlands Town Centre, the new development at Walnut Hill and Skillman.
Yummy food near Hyatt Hill Country??
Princess,
I cannot be of much help in identifying other options near HHC. But, the Rudy's in Leon Springs (the one close to HHC) is the original and, in my opinion, is much better than the satellite Rudy's dotted across Texas. So, it might be a worthy fall-back if you do not find other alternatives.
Enjoy your trip.
P.S. In the issue of full disclosure, I should add that while I enjoy the Original Rudy's, I do not think it is nearly as good the legendary BBQ spots of Taylor, Lockhart, and Luling.
Need a cool Hole-in-the-Wall.
I wouldn't say it has a "Lee Harvey's type atmosphere" but Club Schmitz on Denton Drive/Harry Hines is my favorite dive/hole-in-the-wall in Dallas.

Tacos El Guero?
I have been several times, and I really like it. Tacos are served taqueria style with double (small) corn tortillas, cilantro, onion, and a lime wedge. They have two salsas: one green, one red. I like both depending on the taco in question. My favorite taco filling they serve is the suadero (sp?).
I would say this is a to-go only place until the weather cools off, as it is very small inside. There is a small counter along a wall with about 5 seats where you can eat in, but it gets real hot, real fast.
Family Style (Dallas)
In addition to the other suggestions; Babe's in Garland or Carrollton. The original is in Roanoke, which I suspect is too far. Between Garland and Carrollton, I like the Carrollton atmosphere better.
DFW: Spanish Tapas and Olives??
Jaime,
My wife lived in Spain for a while, so she is constantly seeking out authentic tapas here in Dallas. Before it closed, Hola was - without question - her favorite. She found both the food and the atmosphere to be very authentic. Alas, it closed.
We have been to all of the places so far mentioned in this thread. Regarding the individual dishes, she thinks Si Tapas is the best/most authentic. But, she was somewhat disappointed in the atmosphere, which according to her was, "not at all like Spain...which is one thing [she] loved about Hola."
She likes the atmosphere of Cafe Madrid, but has never been all that impressed with the food.
She thinks Sangria is unquestionably at the bottom of the list.
Keep in mind her opinions are from an American's perspective...so what she believes is authentic/good is, of course, subjective.
Dallas
pgwiz1,
Note that you replied to a 6+ year old message. In that time, Ali Baba has moved from Greenville Ave. to Lakewood. When the 2003 post was made, Ali Baba was on lower Greenville Ave., just north of Taco Cabana. Not sure if the two stores are still in business.
Corporate Dinner event - Dallas
Given the downtown requirement, Stephan Pyles is the first thing that jumps in my mind. Might also conisder Charlier Palmer's at the Joule (though technically a chain I suppose), the Screen Door, or maybe even Dakota's. 560 (restaurant on top of Reunion Tower) is another option, but I cannot vouch for the quality of the food as I have never been there.
Some may disagree with this suggestion, but the Iron Cactus has a nice 2nd floor with a balcony that could probably handle your party. The food (mexican) is not outstanding and it is certainly not a "dining gem of Dallas," but it has a nice, festive atmosphere that would be fun for your group.
Have fun in Dallas.
ISO-long defunct "Italian Garden" in Irving
Just talked to my parents. The brother that owned Italian Garden went through a bad divorce and closed up shop shortly thereafter. My parents do not believe he opened a new place.
ISO-long defunct "Italian Garden" in Irving
Used to eat there all the time and you are right, the food was simply prepared and usually quite good. My parents knew the owners, so I will ask them if they know whether the brothers opened new spots in or around town.
Anniversary Dinner - Lola, Fearings?
To preface, I like both Lola and Fearings. But in my opinion, if you are celebrating an anniversary Lola is the hands-down winner (full disclosure, we recently celebrated our anniversary there).
Both Fearings and Lola have wonderful, interesting food. But the "scene" at Fearings is a bit hectic. Plus, I find the service at Fearings to be intrusive. Not bad, mind you, just intrusive. Finally, I think that Fearing's is quite loud. Understand that I am not someone that complains about a restaurant's ambient noise. But to me, Fearing's is noticeably loud.
Whereas the service at Lola's is attentive without being overbearing. Additionally, I think the flow of the courses is better at Lola and, again, more conducive to celebrating an anniversary.
That being said, Fearings is more of a "scene." In other words, I get the impression a lot of people are there to see and be seen. Not saying that is bad, and it certainly doesn't take away from the quality of the food. Just something I feel when dining there.
So if you are looking for a low-key, wonderful dinner with unobtrusive service in a quaint, romantice setting: go Lola's. If you want more of an upbeat, but also wonderful dinner, and don't mind near constant attention by the waitstaff: Fearing's is a good choice.
Wherever you end up, congrats.
Best BBQ on 281?
Though not right on 281, a friend of mine (whose BBQ opinions I trust) says good things about Opie's in Spicewood.
Hamantashen (DFW)
Not real sure what you mean by "downtown DFW," but if you mean downtown Dallas try Cindy's. They have multiple locations, one of which is near the state courthouse in downtown Dallas. But, I think the Cindy's on Central Expressway a/k/a 75 (west side service road between Royal and Forest Lane) has better baked goods.
If that doesn't work, I have seen it at Central Market and Whole Foods. Though I am not sure if they have it currently.
Good luck.
Denison/Sherman Options?
MG's (1721 Woods, Sherman) for really good burgers and hand-cut fries. Buns are outstanding. Atmosphere? Eh. . . Nevertheless, it is one of my favorites in the area.
City Limits (4531 Texoma Parkway, Sherman) for above-average bar food and cold beer. On some nights, the bar area can get pretty packed. Can be a fun place.
This next one is based on memory, as it has been a while since I was last there. But, La Mesa (2124 Texoma Parkway, Sherman) used to serve really good fajitas. The other mexican dishes were okay, but not great. Again, it has been many years since I was there, so I cannot vouch for the current quality.
D Magazine's Top 10 Restaurants in Dallas???
Grew up in Irving and was a regular at Nemo's. Happy to hear they are still serving those steak subs.
Beef Ribs.
Twinwillow, I absolutely agree. I was just trying to give the original poster an option in the DFW area.
Unfortunately for those of us in this area, if we refused to eat BBQ that was not on par with that of Central Texas, we would never eat BBQ in Dallas. I am not quite ready to make that sacrifice.
Beef Ribs.
Stricken, in what area are you looking (i.e., Dallas, SA, Houston, etc.)?
If Dallas, the beef ribs at Big Al's on Inwood are very good.
Snow cones in Texas - Best ones???
I bet you are talking about Aunt Stelle's Snow Cones. And yes, they are still in business.
Deep Dish
Hello fellow 'hounds. My wife and I will be in Chicago in a few weeks and are looking for great deep dish. But, I have sort of a different query. When we were last in Chicago (about 4-5 years ago) we had a wonderful deep dish pizza and Gino's on Rush. It was phenomenal. By comparison, we did not care for Lou Malnati's. So, with Gino's on Rush closed (if my research is correct), and knowing we liked that rendition of deep dish, should we go to Gino's East, Uno, Due, or some other spot?
Thanks in advance!
Ft. Worth Area....Impress Clients
For steak, my choice would be Del Frisco's in downtown.
Any idea on the best barbeque in Dallas?
I haven't read through all of the responses, but my favorite Dallas BBQ joint at the moment is Big Al's at Inwood and Cedar Springs (tucked in behind Sonic). Solid brisket, sausage, ribs and wonderful beef ribs. If you are just talking about smoked meats, I think it is the best overall in Dallas (though I do prefer the pork ribs, green beans, and bbq beans at Baby Back Shak).
Is Olivella's really that good (dfw)?
just my $.02, but I think Grimaldi's pizza is better than both. Admittedly, however, I am not impressed with Campania as the crust has been soggy on each of my two visits.
frozen yogurt- DFW
Would agree with what has been said about Natsumi. Went in Sunday evening, and to my surprise, yogurt and gelato was free.
I had the plain yogurt with fresh strawberries and mango. This was my first experience with "tart" frozen yogurt, and I loved it. My wife and daughter split a white chocolate gelato. They raved. I swiped a small taste and liked it as well...but preferred the yogurt. The gelato was creamier than other gelatos I have had here in town, but again, it was very good. I will go back soon.
