Open late take out in the West Village
I am open to anything delicious and not too expensive. I work late and usually get off after midnight on week days and well after midnight on weekends. I've been frequenting Hummus Place on 7th and while their food is great, healthy and affordable I would love to hear about some other places in the neighborhood. Thanks!
Open late take out in the West Village
I was wondering if anyone knows of any good places that are open late (past 12) and good for take out in the West Village. Thanks!
sunset park tips
My number one suggestion is Yu Nan Flavour Snack, here is a link to a review in NY Magazine, http://nymag.com/listings/restaurant/yun-nan-flavour/
Their noodles are amazing and the wontons in hot and sour sauce have turned into a craving that must be satisfied at least twice a week. The kicker is nothing on the menu is over $4.25.
As for Mexican I am a fan of Tacos 2004 on 5th, great carne asada. On weekends there are wonderful vendors on 5th, frutas, tacos, tamales, empanadas, there is even a Peruvian ceviche truck.
All of the Mexican bakeries (the ones with the amazing wedding cakes in the windows) are 24 hours and make great tortas and have wonderful weekend specials - moles, barbacoa. . .
If you make your way up towards 60th street on 8th there are several carts that sell the Chinese version of yakitori, chicken feet and skins, etc.
If you are looking for Thai food Mai Thai is alright and to the best of my knowledge the only Thai in the area, plus they deliver.
I haven't had too much luck with pizza, if you find a good one let me know.
Fruteria in Brooklyn or Queens?
Does anyone know of a fruteria in Brooklyn or Queens? I am searching for liquados, smoothies, ensalada de frutas (the kind topped with cottage cheese, granola, honey and shaved coconut) and tortas. These are commonplace in southern California but I haven't found any in New York. Any suggestions?
Great lunch, LES?
I am looking for a great lunch spot on the Lower East Side. Exciting and memorable, any suggestions?
Best Sichuan in Chinatown?
After searching this board and the Manhattan board I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions for Sichuan in Chinatown other than Grand Sichuan. I've been to the location in Bay Ridge and enjoyed, just wondering what else was out there. Thanks!
Sidecar on 5th ave in South Slope?
I just had to revive this old post.
Around 9:30 this evening we were on our way home and passed by Sidecar. After a quick look at the brief but appealing menu (and great cocktail list) we decided to have dinner instead of scrounging something up at home. Good decision.
We had half a dozen Malpeque oysters to start, really wonderful, crisp and fresh with mignonette. For our mains we chose two specials, salade Lyonnaise and mussels with shallots and white wine. Both were perfectly prepared, simple and delicious. A few pints of Sixpoint and the bill came to an unbelievably reasonable $46!
The menu bears a striking resemblance to Blue Ribbon, the scene of many disappointing, mediocre and super expensive meals. Oysters, pate, fried chicken, steak frites?
The hours are also eerily similar, kitchen open until 4am?
Fortunately the ambience and the service bear no resemblance whatsoever to Blue Ribbon. The service was perfect, unpretentious and friendly.
In my opinion Sidecar triumphs every place where Blue Ribbon fails. I love the concept of being able to eat well when everything else is pretty much closed. I also love the fact that Sidecar looks and feels like a comfortable bar. No pretense, just great food and drinks.
Hot Sauce/Taptio?
While I am sure that there are many places in Manhattan that carry Tapatio you can find it (along with tons of others) on 5th Ave. in Sunset Park. Anyplace on 5th from 39th St. to the lower 60's. I'm a big fan of Cholula if you can find it.
Bars/Good food in LIC
Funny, I was just about to post the same question. Has anyone been to Water Taxi Beach yet? What about the beer garden in Astoria?
Jojo lately?
I was wondering if anyone has been to Jojo lately. I've never been and was curious to know what others thought (I have reservations tomorrow night!)
Grilling Whole Lobsters?
After some internet research I have found about 50 or so different opinions on how to grill a whole lobster. Any suggestions on a good method?
Hell's Kitchen UK, where can we see Marco??
I am dying to see Marco Pierre White on Hell's Kitchen, is there any place to watch? I've tried Youtube UK but they only have the Fox version. Any suggestions?
Any place to watch Top Chef on the web?
I was wondering if anyone knew of a sight (for Mac) where you can watch this season of Top Chef. I know you can buy them from Amazon but only for PC. Thanks!

Caribbean in San Diego?
Thanks Kirk! I knew there had to be something else. How does this place compare to Island Spice?
On a side not your blog is a lifesaver!
Caribbean in San Diego?
Island Spice on Market is the only place that I have seen. I have eaten there a couple of times and wasn't really wowed. Are there any other options for Caribbean in San Diego?
African food in San Diego??
It looks like an African place is going to be opening up on 30th by Meade(?). The sign says Visions Cafe and they have been working on it every time I drive by.
Moving to Sunset Park. . .
We are moving to Sunset Park next week and looking for some suggestions about where to eat. It will take at least a couple of weeks for us to set up our new kitchen so we will be eating out a lot and doing a lot of takeout, so the more recommendations the better. Thanks!
Looking for some exciting take out in San Diego. . .
I made it up to Punjabi Tandoor last night and really enjoyed it. Thanks for the recommendation, I have been curious to try some of the Indian places up there. Surati Farsan is next.
Looking for some exciting take out in San Diego. . .
Thanks, I was on my way to the Northgate Market and saw this place a week or two ago. I have been wanting to check it out. I guess we are having Laotian tonight!
Looking for some exciting take out in San Diego. . .
Usually around ten, fifteen minutes. Also, just a quick disclaimer, all of this take out recently is because we are getting ready to move and the kitchen is all packed up.
Looking for some exciting take out in San Diego. . .
I went on a Sunday afternoon but I have seen it there pretty late some nights. I think they are there until at least 8. Enjoy!
Tortas in San Diego
They might not be as exciting as the tortas at La Torta, but some of the Mexican fruit places make really great tortas. I really like Patty's Fruitland on National and Senor Mango on 30th, and the fruit salad at both is incredible.
Looking for some exciting take out in San Diego. . .
Okay, first El Comal. We started eating here while the location on Imperial was open and I love this place. Our usual is the botana appetizer, cochonita pibil and the veggie burrito with nopal.
In regard to Chilangos I have to say that I was pretty disappointed, especially after reading all of the glowing reports on this board. The only thing that really stands out in my mind are those crazy multicolored chips, pretty scary.
On the other hand Mariscos German is amazing! I haven't been to the 28th Street location yet but the truck on University blew me away! The fish tacos are great but the tostada loca was really incredible, ceviche, oysters, mussels, really fantastic. I am looking forward to going to the other location, it looks like they have a fish market, too.
I like Super Cocina a lot, my favorite is the scrambled eggs in a red sauce, pretty simple but really wonderful.
I tried Papuseria El Salvador for the first time just a few days ago and really enjoyed it. Carne guisada, plantanos, yuca, and this other dish that looked like fried squash blossoms and tasted like nothing I have ever encountered before.
So, let me know what other places I am missing out on!

Chinese place by City College SD?

Wine of the Month Club?
I just cancelled my subscription to the International Wine of the Month Club. Although I loved getting a few bottles of wine delivered to my house each month I was disappointed with the selections (overpriced, uninspired). Does anyone subscribe to a wine club that they can recommend?
