Robert Burns Dinner and haggis
You are late for the two I know about.
Martyrs does one the Monday prior to Burns birthday. The haggis is excellent.
The Globe pub did one Saturday. That one is a bit more raucous.
The Andrews society may do one somewhere, as well.
Good luck with finding year round haggis. The import store on Austin may sell it, but I don't know any place that serves it.
Bistro Campagne - 2 x 15 minute cab ride - worth it?
Echoing the others regarding other suggestions.
15 minutes in a cab is a pretty optimistic estimate, 25 is more realistic from the Mag mile.
Gene & Georgetti Wine List
I totally agree.
Not only is the wine list horrible, most of the vintages are also wrong, and we had plenty of attitude thrown at us when we kept refusing wines because of it.
Don't they have a printer? Just update the stinking thing!
Shameful.
$100 gift certificate
Bear in mind, many restaurants are unable to run those gift cards through their credit card systems.
Chicago Cheese Shops
The Binny's at Halsted/Clark/Wellington has a good selection, and their staff is wonderful. Jeff runs the counter, and always has something interesting and exciting that has just come in.
They are near the Red line stop at Belmont (take Right out of station, Right onto Clark St).
It is an easy walk to Pastoral Cheese as well, and a lovely neighborhood to prowl around in.
Schweppes Bitter Lemon sighting
You all have been missing out! Most Binny's have had it for quite a while.
Mix it with Gin for a lovely summer cocktail or aperitif.
Bottoms up, chug-a-lugs.

old people love it.
food is consistent.
interesting wine list.
Broadway Cellars Brunch
We had a nice brunch there yesterday.
A diverse menu with a few twists on the usual brunch fare (the "Ned Beatty" was great, a pulled pork/chipotle benedict). The litmus test for me is a side of bacon, which was perfectly crisp and full of porky goodness.
The menu has enough good looking items that we will be back to try more.
All in all, a nice addition to the neighborhood, and it beats the hell out of M. Henry, which seems to always disappoint us in so many ways...
Chug-a-lug looking for a tasty & boozy winter weekend in DC!!!
Thanks SO much!
Lots of great suggestions.
I'll be sure to fire up a toast to the Chowhounds next weekend!
Chug-a-lug looking for a tasty & boozy winter weekend in DC!!!
Hi!
I am looking for some recs for a weekend get-away in DC.
We are looking for brunch (not buffet) that has good bloodys & a nice bar vibe, and a couple of recs for happy hour type places for mid-day drinking.
We are considering the Maine Avenue fish market for snacks/lunch, and dinner at Bistro du Coin.
Any can't miss places for non-touristy type tourists?
We live a big city, so looking for more local type places, and we're not starved for ethnic food either.
Thanks much!!!
I'll trade info for opinionated advice on any topic!
Bistro 110 "Potatoes L'Ami Louis"
are you talking about the potato galette they serve?
Please please please help a desperate chowhound bride make a decision soon!
Two points.
As far as seating all together at HB, IMHO, once you have more than 8 people at one table, you're not really sitting together anyway. It seems like having two of three smaller groups in the same area would be fine, especially if you circulate a bit.
I second Cafe Iberico for a large group (there it would be one long table). You would be hard pressed to get out of there with empty pockets, given your budget. Sangria is great and tapas whirling out every few minutes makes for a festive evening, and it is cheap, cheap, cheap.
Good luck.
Thoughts on Bistro 110?
sorry... maybe that was a little hateful.
The bread (Red Hen) & roasted garlic is fabulous.
The artichoke baked with brie is pretty nice.
The creme brulee IS good.
People go nuts for the Lamb Shank, though the table-side de-boning is a little tired.
Everything else, I would say, is hit or miss. When hit, pretty good, when missed, super disappointing.
