Winterlicious Menus are up: Jan 25 - Feb 7, 2013...

There is a new Chef de Cuisine there now called Gaetano Ferrara. He is one to watch I think.

Fabricca Update

I reread the review you are refrencing and she is talking about his cookbook not the food at fabricca when he says the food is too complicated for the average person.

Diastatic Malt Powder

You can usually get it at any good heath food store like the Big Carrot or Noahs. Self brew wine and beer shops often have it as well.

Where to buy Fresh Fish, what day of the week?

In general fish arrives in Toronto on two days of the week depending on where it is coming from. The people that import the fish and then disperse it to stores get fish coming from the Mediteranean on Thursdays (shows up in stores on Fridays ) and the rest of the world on Mondays (shows up in stores on Tuesdays ).

If you could only eat at one restaurant every night, which one would you choose?

If I could change it to every day I would have to say dim sum atg pearl harbourfront. I could eat only this for the rest of my life if I had to.

All-Clad in Toronto

Agree with truffles. Over the years I have picked up a number of pieces that they have run as door crashers that weren't advertized.I used them constantly over the last five years and they look the way they did new.

Spiral slicer?

You can get it at Tap Phong (sp?) on Spadina, Nikalou at Bathurst and Queen or in the Kitchen store on the top level of St. Lawrence Market. It is made by Ben Rinner but be warned it costs about $110.00

Best steak tartar?

I second didier. The rest of my meal was a little up and down but the tartar was grrreat. I found the portion size to be just right but to be fair to City Girl I'm a pretty big guy.

Garden @ Eleven - Anyone been?

From the looks of the menu, on the website, it is just setting up to be a neighboorhood spot. The prices are sure nowhere near Perigee. The cost of their highest main course is lower then the mid range appetizer I had last time I was at Perigee. As far as taking risks maybe their not trying to - it sure didn't seem to work out with Brad Moore. Who knows?

ISO Lemon Balm

Most restaurants get their Lemon Balm from a company named Fresh Herbs By Daniel and they are the seedlings of the plant {very tender}. Cookstown sells the older tougher mature plant, that like mint is not so good for straight eating. I have seen the same seedlings from FHBDaniel at the lower floor of the St Lawrence Market

Restaurants for birthday dinners in Toronto?

I had the bread stew there as well. It was called an ascorda (don't know about the spelling). It was amazing, like the most amazing stuffing you ever had.

Where to get goat's milk downtown?

Try the Big Carrot or Noah's. You also might want to check if they will use soy milk as a substitute instead of the goat's milk.

Food Near (but not in) IKEA

Oliver Bonnacini Grill at bayview. The food is always well executed and the service fast and efficient. Nothing "cutting edge" but they always get the basics right.
