Biltmore - Strange Billing

Went to the Biltmore in Newton yesterday for lunch. Good food, good service. When the bill came I perused it to see if it was mine and that the things ordered were correct. All good until I mentally addded the entries (it was computer generated). My total was different than the computer's total! I checked and rechecked, called the waitress and she checked. The computer's total was $2.00 more than the sum of the items. How can this happen? The manager came over and said "I don't see how that can happen and I can't correct it so I will take one item off the bill. Strange, how can a computer fail to add a column of numbers correctly?

Old Salt House, Cohasset

Finally made it down to Cohasset last week. My wife and I had lunch at the Old Salt House. We ate on the patio, beautiful view of the harbor. A working harbor and a recreational harbor.

Food was very good, service was excellent. My wife had the lobster roll, I had the lobster salad. Same lobster salad in each except I had avacado and corn on a bed of baby spinach with mine. Also each had a cup of clam chowder. Good although the clam meat was a little tough (sea clams), but had very good flavor. Not too thick, no uncooked flour taste.

Expensive, $24 for a lobster roll, especially at a time when lobsters are cheap, $3.99/lb at Market Basket. Of course they are shedders at this time of year so you don't get as much meat in a lb of lobster.

$75 with 2 drinks, Not bad for an occasional pamper yourself lunch.

Overall, very good experience.

Cohasset Lunch

I will be in Cohasset in the near future and am looking for an upscale lunch. I see Brisa, Old Salt House and Atlantica all at the same location (Harbor Resort). What's the difference?

West Bridge - Lunch

My wife and I went to West Bridge for lunch yesterday. Man that alley from Binney St to Hampshire St is a wind tunnel. 8ºF, brutal. Inside WB it was comfy, sat near the window with the sun streaming in.

Food was very good. although pricey, and I thought limited selection. I had the lamb stew. $15 for a medium bowl! Very very good. Vegetables were sliced so thin, some thin slices of potato on the top were so thin that after absorbing the broth didn't taste of potato. Nice crunch. Really delicious. My wife had the chicken club. Some thin slices of veggies with it. Some slices were yelow/orange, we couldn't identify. We asked. Persimmon! Who would have thought to put that in a chicken club? Very thin slices of very moist chicken. Very good. Very strong coffee to finish. Not old, just strong, like Turkish or even cappacino. A full cup of that, too much. Now a know why they serve Turkish in demitasses. $40 for one beer, one glass of wine, stew and sandwich. I'm glad I dont eat lunch there every day, but if I could afford it the food and service were excellent.

Manchester NH, 36 Lowell St

Thanks Dave B

80 people plus another dining room? They must have expanded! I'm disappointed that they don't serve lunch, but probably better to focus on dinner only.

Has anything opened in Manchester NH at 36 Lowell St? The former site of Richards Bistro and 36 Delux. I rode by yesterday and saw a sign I thought said 110 something.

Bangor Restaurants

I'll be in Bangor Jul 7 for one night. Looking for an upscale restaurant. Thistles is closed that day, so is Fiddleheads. What's going on in Bangor that week?

Any other upscale restaurants? We're staying at the Sheraton. They have a restaurant. Anyone been? Hotel restaurants are usually meh.

Bondir or Craigie On Main?

I've narrowed my choice for an anniversary dinner to Bondir and Craigie on Main.

Two people, tommorow night.

Which would be a better choice?

Albany, High end Restaurant

I will be in Albany the middle of next week. What are the high end restaurants? It's a special occasion (anniversity). Any cuisine except Asian (or Indian).

I have searched this board but there are so many choices, I'm confused.

Thanks,

Martinis, which Vermouth?

I've been reading the posts about gins and I'm jonesing for a martini. But the gin is only part of the mix. The Vermouths are so varied in flavors that they must be specified for a proper martini.

Which Vermouths are best? Or which go with which gin?

Providence, River Fire

We visited Providence last Sat, to see River Fire. Had lunch at Dolce Vita at Dipasquali Sq on Atwells St. Good but not memorable. Drinks and apps at Mills Tavern. Excellent. Sautéd razor clams! Tasty but a little tough. Razor clams seem to be one long neck with a very small belly.

Dinner at Cafe Nuovo. Very confused and unorganized host. We had reservations but still had to be very agressive at the host's stand. After that, very good service and excellent food. An appetizer of smoked salmom (large portion) and a chicken scalopini which had some Mediterraean herbs that I couldn't identify. Very good. Very noisy.

Thanks, Jenkins. We went to Mills Tavern for drinks and apps. Had an app of sautéd razor clams. Very good. I didn't know razor clams were served except for chowders, but they were very good. Excellent recomendation.

Thanks
