Asian food in Eugene, OR

Haven't tried Domo on Oak....I would assume it's the same menu and thus the same quality as Green Acres is.

Izakaya Meiji does not sell sushi, that I recall.

Pier is near my house; I fear their location is cursed. The ghost of Bob's Hamburgers haunts that corner and dooms the half-dozen different places that have tried to make a go of it there. Haven't tried it yet.

Kabuki is more of a teppanyaki restaurant. Don't know if they even have sushi.

Sushi-ya: Haven't tried. If that's the one at 8th and Willamette, I recall my wife saying her service there was the worst she ever had in Eugene.

Asian food in Eugene, OR

Dim Sum? Nope. Even Portland is a stretch here. Seattle is more like it.

I will echo those above on sushi. I am partial to Sushi Domo or Izumi. Had a very bad experience with some funky fish at Mio.

As for Izakaya, there's not a place that specializes in grilled meats like a traditional Japanese Izakaya. There is, however, a newish place called Izakaya Meiji in the Whiteaker neighborhood that is a whiskey bar with some Japanese and American snacks. It's good.

Yakitori? Not so much. But we have a place called Toshi's Ramen that is a pretty authentic Hokkaido-style (think butter and corn) ramen restaurant. Highly recommended.

No Korean BBQ. Not even a half-decent Korean restaurant at all. Can't think of one in Portland either.

Pho....there is a place on the west side of Eugene that specializes in Vietnamese....have never tried it. No idea if they have Banh Mi, either. If you DO go to Portland, go to Bunk Bar and try the Pork Belly Banh Mi. AMAZING.

Chinese in town is Meh. Lots of cornstarch. Have not tried East Meets West.

Boba = bubble tea? Have seen that around, although I don't remember where.

Thai, we have. Lots of. TONS of. Several of them are really good. One that hasn't been mentioned here is Kuraya's in Springfield. Lots of good stuff there. Can also recommend Ring of Fire, which isn't a Thai restaurant as such, but has mostly Thai dishes. Good stuff.

There is are two Asian markets I can think of. The one I like is on 28th near Willamette across the street from Rite-Aid and next door to Chapala. Lots of yummy stuff in there. There's a Uwajimaya store in Beaverton as well. (Maybe not Beaverton, but in one of the Portland burbs.)

Hope that helps.

Best Mexican Food In Salem

Appreciate the reviews.

Since we've moved to Oregon from LA, my wife misses what she calls "real" arroz con pollo. If you had to recommend a place in Salem for that specific dish, what would your opinion be?

ChowFamily's visit to Uinversity of Oregon

Are you thinking specifically near the UO? Or anywhere in Eugene? The area around the campus is the usual melange of quick/inexpensive food, with some chain places thrown in. If you venture farther out into Eugene, you'll find more "regional" stuff, although for some strange reason we have A LOT more than our share of Thai restaurants.

http://voodoodoughnut.com/ The "Voodoo Doll" donut is pictured on the home page...they're in the corners.

As for your question earlier about Adam's: Haven't been there in a while. Was good the last time I was there. They take their food sourcing VERY seriously, Would recommend to a visitor. There's also a Moroccan-themed restaurant owned by the same guy next door. http://www.thesustainabletable.com/ad...

El Tapatio, Cottage Grove

No argument there. None at all. Big Stuff is really excellent. I work in Cottage Grove and get to drive by that place every day on the way home.

You could try Benedetti's on Centennial. If he doesn't have it, he may be able to get it. He seems to have a good relationship with local farms.

Looking for a baking/cooking class in Eugene, OR

Can't say if they ever offer breadbaking classes, but Cooks Pots Tabletops offers a lot of cooking classes. The couple I went to were demonstration, but they may have some hands-on ones as well.

El Tapatio, Cottage Grove

It's not my favorite in CG. In my opinion, Torero's, which you go by on the way to El Tapatio, has better food.

Not great, but better. Have yet to find what I would consider to be great Mexican food in Oregon.

Edit: cannot get it to remove the link to the restaurant in Astoria, which I have never tried.

Worst tasting snacks - ever!!!!

This whole thread reminds me of the sadly no longer updated bad-candy.com. I'd avoid anything even MENTIONED there.

On the subject of different strokes, I love Hole in the Wall. Off the Waffle is for snacking imho.

Izakaya in the Whitaker? Tell me more!!

Yeah, at this point I'd choose Cafe 440 over Zenon. Ate dinner there tonight...outstanding.

The Indian restaurant in Cottage Grove is also thumbs WAY up. Stop at the Fleur de Lys bakery on Main Street after for dessert, or some croissants for the next morning.

I'll vouch for Cafe 440. Good food there.

Haven't tried Sfizio, but have heard good things about it. Menu looked spendy to me.

Will also second Jung's above, if MG is your thing.

The new Zenon took a little while to get its act together, but was OK last time I was there.

Suprised no one mentioned La Perla for pizza. They're open for lunch now and if you like super-thin-crust pizza, this is the place for you.

favorite casual eats in eugene?

I would to second to Cafe Yumm, definitely. You shouldn't have a whole lot of problems with finding wheat-free in Eugene.

Sydney Harbour Dinner Cruises

Just an update, as we're home. The food was just OK. The cruise itself, however, was a lot of fun; much more enjoyable then one of Capt. Cook's probably would have been. Never made it to Aqua; didn't spend much time in the north shore other than an afternoon at Manly beach. We tried soup dumplings for the first time at Din Tai Fung....those were good. Mostly what I found about eating in Sydney was that it was EXPENSIVE. We had quite the fun time, though.

We'll be trying the tall ship cruise you linked there. Will let you all know about the experience. Really REALLY looking forward to the trip.

Sydney Harbour Dinner Cruises

We're going to be in Sydney from the 19th-26th, and are wondering if there's a dinner cruise on Sydney Harbour that is worth doing. Has anyone done this recently and could recommend a company to go with?

Thanks in advance.

Best Burgers in Oregon

Cornucopia's pretty darn good.

If you're in Springfield on a Monday or Thursday, try the Hole-in-the-Wall BBQ's (on Olympic near Mohawk) smoked burger with bacon and cheese. They're amazing, but only available on those two days. They also make the best fries in Lane county.
