Journeyman damaged by car crash; closed for repairs

I saw somewhere (Twitter? Facebook?) that they might be able to continue having their Saturday outdoor BBQ. Not sure if that's confirmed, though.

Best Hot Chocolate in Boston?

As others have mentioned, I think they have churros at Toro. But, if I remember right they were Mexican style, not Spanish style.

HK Yan Toh Heen -- solo on Sunday afternoon?

Hm, that's what I feared.

HK Yan Toh Heen -- solo on Sunday afternoon?

Headed to HK again, arriving Sunday. Stayed at the InterCon last time and lunched at Yan Toh Heen twice (once with a group, once solo). Does anyone know how crowded it gets on Sunday? Last time I lunched alone they wouldn't seat me until 2pm because it was crowded with business diners. Would like to be able to time it right this time so I don't have to wait too long since I'm not staying at the hotel this time.

If anyone has any other suggestions for dining solo near the W, shoot them my way as well.

PYO Rhode Island Greening apples?

Does anyone know of any pick-your-own apple orchards that have Rhode Island Greening apples? Preferably in the Stow area?

Tried this variety last year and loved it but I don't know much about it, much less whether any of the orchards in the area grow it.

Thanks!

Is Hungry Mother still good?

Taking some out-of-town friends out to dinner tonight and want to stay on the Cambridge side of the river. We have reservations at Hungry Mother tonight but is it still worth checking out? I heard great things when they first opened, not so great things when they skyrocketed after the Globe piece, and not much since then.

I really wanted to take them to Bergamot but didn't plan early enough and now can't get a reservation until 9 tonight.

On the road: early AM breakfasts near Portland, Florence, and Eureka (CA)

Thanks for the Camp 18 rec but we won't be headed on 26. From Portland the plan is to take 26 and then 6 over to Tillamook. But I'll keep it on the list in case plans change since it looks interesting!

On the road: early AM breakfasts near Portland, Florence, and Eureka (CA)

My beau and I are taking a road trip from Seattle to San Francisco in less than two weeks and I've been amassing restaurant and sightseeing recs. One place where I have a gaping hole are breakfasts along the way. We'll be staying one night each in Portland, Florence, and Eureka (CA) and plan on getting up very early in leaving Florence and Eureka to head to our next destination.

Does anyone have any suggestions for early morning breakfasts on the road? Are there road-side stands for fruit? I love both "healthy" breakfast of fresh fruit, yogurt, granola, etc. as well as heartier breakfasts of eggs and such. But for those early mornings we probably will want to grab something quick and get going.

Thanks!

Eureka to Napa for tasting and picnic at Pride Mountain Vineyard: Q about picnic

Eatzalot, that sounds so wonderful. I'm tempted to postpone the trip to Pride Mountain Vineyards! If we are able to make time to stop in one of those areas (leaving Eureka at 5am?), do you have any recommendations of wineries to visit?

Eureka to Napa for tasting and picnic at Pride Mountain Vineyard: Q about picnic

I have a bit of a pointed questions for my Napa tour that I'm hoping you all will be able to help with.

We're heading from Eureka to Napa for a 12:45pm appt. at Pride Mountain Vineyard (towards the end of a road trip from Seattle to San Francisco). I know the drive along the coast from Eureka directly to Pride is going to take about 6 hours. After the tasting, we'd like to have a picnic on their grounds.

So my question is whether there is anywhere on the way to Pride Mountain Vineyard coming from Eureka to grab some great picnic food? Anything from some good bread and cheese to fresh fruit and more substantial picnic-y type foods.

And if anyone feels like dispensing more Napa-itinerary advice, here's our plan:
(Wednesday)
- Pride for tasting and lunch
- Storybook Mountain for a late tasting (3pm)
- Anywhere open after that? If not, maybe a drink at Auberge

(Thursday)
- AM tour / tasting at Hendry
- Open afternoon. Thinking maybe Artesa, Elyse, Robert Sinskey... but would love some more suggestions, of course. Since we're going to be further up north the previous day, I'm looking into places between Yountville and downtown Napa.
- Dinner at Ad Hoc later in the evening (~8pm)

Friday... of to the city!

Thanks to all in advance. Can't wait for the trip : )

Cooking class recommendations - Seattle

It's been a few years since this thread originated. Does anyone have any updated recommendations for cooking classes in the Seattle area, specifically geared toward couples classes?

Thank you!

What are my options for local meat?

Sherman Market in Union Square (Somerville) sells local beef. I think it's usually in their freezer but I've seen some cuts in the refrigerated section before. I think they sell out pretty quickly, though.

Joanie, I was the one that thought that the Ten Tables burger was weird: http://chowhound.chow.com/topics/6986...

Ten Tables: late night burger -- a bit odd

Stopped in to see the expanded Ten Tables JP last night after an event down the street. Two of us got there at around 9pm and were excited to see that they had a burger on their bar menu.

"TT Burger: Humanely raised all natural Meyer beef on a warm sesame brioche bun with Farmhouse Cheddar, lettuce, A10Sauce, bacon aioli, pickles and potato salad"

Basically, we were oddly weirded out by the burger. I had expected a really beefy flavor and instead thought it mostly tasted like... pork. Understood that maybe it was the bacon aioli that was overpowering the burger so we both tried just the beef patty. But it still didn't taste at all "beefy." And on top of that, the consistency was odd, too. It reminded me of a breakfast sausage patty, if that makes any sense. Dense, heavy, and very toothsome.

Overall, I was just really confused by the burger. I ended up only eating half of it and had the intention of trying it for lunch today but I think I'll just give up on it.

I'm curious to see if others have tried it and what they thought.

Taberna de Haro - Great atmosphere, horrible food.

Just a quick reply to say that I wholeheartedly agree with BobB. Granted, I haven't visited Taberna de Haro in the past couple of years but I used to go fairly frequently when I lived in Brookline.

I have also spent a good bit of time in Spain and I thought that the food was delicious and the entire experience was the most authentic out of all the tapas places in the Boston area at the time (this was before Estragon).

Weekday lunch place to stand in for Dante?

Dante was our go-to "fancy" workday lunch restaurant. We just discovered that they've stopped serving lunch for the season (??) so we're looking for somewhere similar. Cambridge would be preferred but we're open to crossing the river. Any ideas? We ended up at Legal Seafood the other day and I'd rather not have that become our regular place.

Thanks!

Deciding between these three for a milestone birthday. Any outright winner? It's would be for this coming Saturday or Sunday if that makes a difference.

Sushi rolls with soy paper?

As much as I've tried, I've never been a fan of sushi/maki rolls because of the nori (seaweed). The other night I was at Duozo in Back Bay and they suggested having the maki rolls with soy paper instead of the nori. It was great! I got all of the great flavors of the sushi components without having to deal with the nori.

Now I'm curious as to whether this is standard in most sushi places? Anyone know?

Thanks!

Organic produce etc. near Nashua, NH?

While some of the Nature's Place products are organic (I'm thinking in particular of some of the canned items), I think the Nature's Place meats are just "all natural," not organic.
