Vizla's Profile

Mystic CT

I wholeheartedly agree with Milagro. You won't find anything better. It is approximately a 15 minute drive from the aquarium.

Great Pizza near Mystic

I live in Mystic and frequent Pizzetta one or twice a month. I really enjoy it. Try the one with pesto. It's not the most amazing pizza but it really good and the service is quick.

Providence, Saturday Night Dinner for 5

okay so I have my back up for Siena in EG, but have been contemplating either Camille's or Bacaro......if this helps we are early 40's women celebrating a birthday. Price is not an object, we just want delicious food, service and wine (!).

Providence, Saturday Night Dinner for 5

oh it's Saturday night, which is probably even tougher. As a back-up I was able to procure reservations at the East Greenwich, Siena location for 8:30 PM.

I'll check out your rec's. Thanks.

Providence, Saturday Night Dinner for 5

I just tried to make a reservation for Siena for this Saturday night. Party of 5 at 8:00 PM. Nothing available.

I'm open to suggestions in the PVD area. I love Siena, however, I'm not very familiar with other restaurants in the area. It doesn't have to be Italian food either. Thanks.

Wedding thoughts on Paddy's, Misquamicut or Mystic Aquarium...or others?

My high school prom was at the Mystic Aquarium, ok that was 25 years ago and they've since renovated numerous times but it makes an awesome venue. I highly recommend the aquarium. I used to bartend and worked many weddings and functions at the aquarium. In the past few years I've had several work funtions there. Dining and dancing amongst the tanks and displays is incredible. Also, if your wedding is at night they do open up a small area outside. I'm not sure if they have their own onsite caterer or you can bring in your own caterer but the work functions I mentioned above, the food was excellent.

Trader Joe's coming to Warwick

I whole heartedly agree. Where else could you buy a pound bag (or is it 2lb?) of frozen haricot verts for $2?

I really love a lot of their frozen items, they're fresh tasing and not laden with fat and preservatives.

Chester's Vs. Russell's Barbecue -- Groton, CT

I love Chester's but have never been to Russel's so my opinion may not be that helpful. I've been going to Chester's for a little over a year now, first NL now the Groton location as it's closer for me. I think the ribs are fantastic, however, I've only ordered the baby back ribs. I also think the pulled pork is great. I usually pick up a pint and a pint of their coleslaw and make my own pulled pork sandwiches at home.

Recommendation needed for Lunch tomorrow

Hi, I'll be traveling into the city tomorrow for a class at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. I'll be arriving and departing from Penn Station. The class runs from 9:00 - 12:30. My train departs Penn at 2:30 PM.

So I'm looking for a lunch spot either near the museum or Penn Station, or maybe somewhere in between, I'll have approximately 2 hours for lunch including travel time. Price range is maximum $50, I'll be dressed in casual clothes so nothing too fancy. My traveling companion is a somewhat picky eater, so nothing to unusual (I'd exclude most ethnic foods). I'm thinking more along the lines of a steak house, american-type food or Italian.

Thanks for your suggestions!

South County, Rhode Island / Mystic, CT

to answer your question, I've always had fast service and hot coffee. I probably should venture around the menu more but I always get Smedley. It's a big pile of homefries covered with mushrooms, onions, ground sausage and scrambled eggs topped with melted cheese and served with your choice of toast. It's delicious.

South County, Rhode Island / Mystic, CT

I'm sorry that your visit to Kitchen Little was so terrible. I am a local and eat there often and have always had great service and excellent meals. I'm hoping this was just a rare off day for them.

Recent Block Island recs?

Mohegan Cafe - located on Water Street (near the ferry landing)

I second The Oar and Eli's though I've only had breakfast at the Oar.

In addition I've always had great meals at Beachhead.

Try the Hotel Mannises for great desserts and coffee drinks made tableside, it was wonderful.

New London CT

Chester's has a larger location in Groton as well.

New London CT

It's actually Zavala's and I'm going there tonight. Excellent margaritas.

Mystic: Nice spot near Amtrak station?

Rice, Spice and Noodles is right there next to the train station. Just a few short steps away. It's a neuvo type Thai restaurant. Good food IMO.

Flood Tide Rest/Inn at Mystic

Randall's Ordinary offers authentic colonial cuisine prepared entirely in an open-hearth fireplace. (per their website) It's pretty quirky, you have to be interested in colonial cuisine served by staff in period clothing.

Flood Tide Rest/Inn at Mystic

I haven't heard anything good about the Seamen's Inne in a long, long time. Have you been recently? I live less than a mile and haven't been in many years.

Flood Tide Rest/Inn at Mystic

I'd second Bravo. I'd also recommend, Azu, Anthony J's (both in Mystic) or Water Street Cafe in Stonington. I can't comment on the Flood Tide as I haven't been there in ages, last time ~3 years ago, it was average.

Lobster in Connecticut

sorry meant to say does NOT have INSIDE eating, well as of last summer anyway.

Lobster in Connecticut

Just replied to add, Costello's does not have outside seating.

Mystic/Groton CT with high school kids?

huh, interestingly, i've lived in mystic/noank area my whole life and haven't heard a good report about Ten Clams.

edited to add, I eat at the Seahorse in Noank one or twice a month.

Mystic/Groton CT with high school kids?

Five Brothers Burgers (or something very similar) is due to open near the Mystic Village very soon. I believe its a chain but have heard good reviews.

It's called Five Guys Burger and Fries. There is an ad in the local paper for waitstaff so it should be opening soon.

Sports bars in Mystic area

There really aren't any sports bar in Mystic. Margarita's in Mystic does have a big screen TV along with other tv's in their bar. Food is tex-mex, margarita's are ok. I'm not going to rave about the place but I've sat there and enjoyed several margarita's and a decent burrito or fajitas.

There's also Voodoo in downtown mystic, great wings, the tv is always tuned into sports but seating at the bar is limited, small restaurant.

In Westerly, 15 minute ride from Mystic there is CC O'Brien's, definitely a local sports bar hangout. Decent bar food and tons of TV's.

Or you could go up to either casino to watch the games.

Best Bagels in New London, CT?

I really like the bagels at the Flanders Donut & Bake Shop located in East Lyme, CT. I think they're the best around.

Lunch nr New London CT Ferry?

I'd consider Zavala's, it's within walking distance of the ferry. Just check beforehand to make sure they're open for lunch that day. They have excellent margarita's and serve authentic mexican and a tex-mex menu. For more info do a search on this board as I know it's been mentioned before or check out tripadvisor.

Recs for Aguadilla, Isabela and/or Rincon, Puerto Rico

oh I forgot to add the English Rose for breakfast with a beautiful view (closed Mondays)

Recs for Aguadilla, Isabela and/or Rincon, Puerto Rico

I've traveled to Rincon 4 times in the past year. Definetely check out Shipwreck for excellent dining. It is located near Taino divers. I liked the bar food at the Lazy Parrot and the chicken Mufongo at the Villa Cofresi.

Good Butcher/Fresh Meat & Poultry in Eastern CT

I just learned of this via a flyer sent to me by my local organic farmer.

Winter’s Farmer Market beginning the first Saturday in February through the last Saturday in April from 10-2pm at the Fiddlehead’s location in New London, CT at 13 Broad Street. There will be over 22 vendors, including organic meat vendors.

email sile.herbert@snet.net.com for more information.

Pls. help me finalize our trip to Mystic

I love Kitchen Little for breakfast. The wait times will vary on the weekend. I wouldn't wait for more than 1/2 hour. My favorite dish is called "smedley", its scrambled eggs, mushrooms, cheese, ground sausage served over home fries.

I too, recommend the Seahorse in Noank for seafood. Sea Swirl is good too but its a road side clam shack, perfect for a quick lunch.

I am underwhelmed with Rice Spice Noodles, I've eaten there several times, while good I think its overpriced for what you get. Other favorites are Daniel Packer Inn (the lemon pepper chicken rules), Anthony J's, Azu and River Walk.
