Le Bernardin or Per Se
Per Se... no doubt. I have been to both more than once. Le Bernadin is not at the level of Per Se in food, decor, service.
Jean Georges- few ?s
Hi,
Jean George is a great choice you will really enjoy it. I have had both menus. I just tried the spring about a week ago and unfortunately I would strongly recommend you both do the Jean George Classical menu. After I had the classical menu I placed this restaurant in the top tier with Per Se and Le Atelier, it is incredible. I was so impressed I just took my visiting parents to have the Spring Menu... not a great meal... decent at best most every dish was sub par except for the sashimi with sour cherries which was excellent, but at Jean George everything should be amazing. Go with the classic and if you want an ever changing menu, go to EMP or Degustation (cheaper and amazing every-time) next time. Have a good time.
Crispo, Picholine, Eleven Madison, Lugers or Adour for V-day?
11 Madison Park for sure. Do the tasting menu!!! It is not exactly romantic but the service is top notch and the food is amazing.
Anything NEGATIVE about Per Se?
There is very little negative to say, especially if you try to compare it with other restaurants that are considered at a similar level. Have a great dinner!
Recommendations on Degustation
Degustation is fantastic, I have been many times and rarely had a bad dish. The menu changes very often, but I am sure everything you have will be great. I would say for 4 dishes per person would be about right. Enjoy!!
EMP or Per Se?
Christene,
You will be happy with either, but Per Se is absolutely on a completely different level, everything from the the moment you walk in to the moment you stagger out stuffed with your bag of french macaroons will be perfect. Service is impeccable, food is unreal (and they are incredibly accomodating to food allergies) and the decor is wonderful. Go to Per Se if you can get a reservation.
Batali vs. Keller--Who Wins?
I absolutely agree. Babbo is nice, but not even on the same playing field as Per Se. if you want something close to Per Se and it is only close not near as good I would suggest the formal dining room at Jean Georges.
Casual Jean George?
I third Perry St. I use it almost everytime I need to take a client out for dinner. The food is always great the decor is simple and modern. It never gets loud and hard to speak. I haven't yet been to Nougatine, but I recently went to the formal dining room and if you get the chance the food is absolutely wonderful.
Where to eat on the UES?
Welcome there is lots of great food on the UES
Burger: JG Melon best straight up burger in the city, always a wait 74th and 3rd
Slightly Fancy: Etats Unis, fantastic food make sure to order the Chocolate Souffle when you order dinner it takes time to make
Brunch: Willy's or Vinyl both good and pretty cheap
Pizza: Tottono's
Italian: Boun Gusto, cheap fairly nice and good
Wine Bar: Uva awsome wine and cheese, good food reasonable prices.
Hope this helps!!!
Review of Per Se
Like I said, I had the opposite experience. At Per Se our Server was young and very personable, he even took us back and showed us the amazing kitchen and introduced us to the Chefs after dinner, At Daniel they were nice, with a pretentious. I think it is just who in particular is serving you that night, next time could be completley different.
Review of Per Se
I went to Per Se in Feb. and was at Daniel last week. I totally disagree Per Se was outstanding in every aspect and the food was much better and more inventive than at Daniel. The service was so much more attentive at Per Se with only a few tables to serve compared to the mass dining hall at Daniel. Don't get me wrong I enjoyed Daniel tremendously and will definately go back, I would spend the extra $$$ to go to Per Se if you have time to wait for the reservation.
is mesa grill good
I haven't been to Mesa Grill yet, but if you are looking for inventive food I would suggest going to one of Jean Georges restaurants Perry St. or Jean Georges are my favorites
2nd Date -- any suggestions?
Peasant is a great spot, good wine and inventive italian food. very rustic feeling
Lever House
Food is good, but not overly impressive. The appetizers are better than the main dishes in my opinion. I will say however that the desserts were absolutley some of the best I have ever eaten. Still if I had the option I would try to go to Perry St. or Jean Georges instead
PerSe Experiences?
It is truly worth every penny... Save up, sell your children, do whatever you need to! it is an amazing experience from the moment you walk in to when you walk out stuffed and tipsy carrying a bag of cookies.
Per Se Disappointment
Per Se is an experience not too be rushed... If you don't want to spend a long time enjoying your meal simply don't go. Although I LOVE Jean Georges Restaurant, Perry St., Daniel and the other top tier restaurants I have visited I would never put them in the same league as Per Se. The food is incredible and the service is unmatched!
Top 5 Upscale Restaurant Choices (Not Sushi)
If you like Jean George, I was surprisingly impressed by Perry Street. A very quiet, dimly lit, modern design showcase kind of room. One of the best meals I have had start to finish with absolutely no weak links. The service was impeccable and the bill surprisingly reasonable
Lever House, Nothing Special
I agree we did the New Years Eve Dinner at Lever House and found it to be very disappointing. The first courses were nice but not phenomenal. The "main" courses were bland and overcooked. I will say though the dessert chef is incredible best I have ever had but it was still not enough to make it worth the $600 bill. I would say if you want to eat well go to Perry St. or Jean Georges, you will probably pay less for a much, much better meal!
Best Coffee Beans (for purchase)?
I second Orens!!! buy them whol bean grind right before you brew. My favorites are the Aged Sumatra or the Nicaragua. Everyone from out of town that has tasted it, I know have to ship it to them monthly.
Bemelmans Bar?
Thanks for the input, I just moved to the neighborhood... Might go check it out tonight!
craving a cheeseburger- on the upper west around 80s and columbus.
Sorry to say hop on the 79th Street cross town and walk down to J.G. Melon on 74th and 3rd. Its well worth the $2 bus fair
Bemelmans Bar?
Heard great things about the Upper Easts Bemelmans Bar being a great "New York" experience anyone have an opinion?
Just moved to the UES - Need some restaurant suggestions...
Great Sushi at a cheap price is at Iwasaki 60st/1st, Some of the best sushi I have found matches Mizu in Flatiron District for like half the price... The only problem is the atmosphere, its bad plain and simple... not a date spot by any means but if you like to get great food at a great price check it out. I just moved from 63/1 to 79/York and I miss it if i don't make it once a week!
I need to find a good Mongolian BBQ in the City!
Been living in New York for almost 2 years and have yet to see a real sit down Mongolian BBQ style place! Anyone know of one?
