Trying to find boisterous Barcelona bar that served rustic meat sandwiches and bottles of cava

The place you're looking for is Can Paixano, also known as "La Champanyeria" (not to be confused with El Xampanyet).

getting to Can Fabes

By all means. And while Sant Celoni is no 7-wonders-of-the-world town, it's nice enough to walk around a bit and work an apetite!

Can Fabes is a great restaurant, enjoy!

getting to Can Fabes

Rodalies (Catalan)/Cercanias (Spanish) is the name Renfe gave to their commuter networks in all the major cities. Line C2 is part of the Rodalies network for the Barcelona hub. in this context, the word "cercanias" literally means outskirts.

So indeed this is a commuter line, and no, it doesn't go as far as Girona or Figueres. You can, I believe, take the train to Girona/Figueres/Port Bou/Perpignan in the Passeig De Gracia station as well.

getting to Can Fabes

PBSF, I think you're mistaken w.r.t. the first train on Sundays. The Renfe Rodalies website shows 6 trains on Sundays before the 11:29 (about once an hour, starting at 6:33).

http://www.renfe.es/cercanias/barcelona/index_horarios.html

getting to Can Fabes

9:37 and 10:33. Are you sure about 12:30 though? It sounds way early. As a matter of fact I just checked on their website and they list 13:30 as the opening time.I would double check if I were you, just in case.

getting to Can Fabes

Take the train from Paseo de Gracia Station to Sant Celoni, the ride is about 50 minutes. The line you're taking is Rodalies C2.

On Sundays you have trains at 11:29, 11:33, 12:33, 13:30 and 13:33, so plan accordingly.

Then it's a 10 minute walk from the station to the restaurant, see the map here:

Last minute reservations in Barcelona

Thanks for singling me out as the sole person criticizing Windsor. I just went on eGullet (I'm a regular poster there), searched for Windsor and found only one comment on one thread, from January this year, with no positive or negative remarks, just as part of a list of restaurants cooking "new catalan cuisine".

Moreover, I can't find one good review of this place in any local site, blog, newspaper, etc. So to each it's own, but please don't picture it as me vs. the world, please, because I don't think that's a proper representation of this restaurant.

In my humble opinion, there's a very long list of restaurants in this city which are better choices than Windsor, if one is looking for a good price/quality ratio. But as I said, to each its own.

El Bulli Current Prices?

both, as well as star alignment, tide level, number of white birds flying over Ferran Adria's head that day, etc :)

El Bulli Current Prices?

210 for the tasting menu, plus whatever you drink.

Best canned food of Spain

The place you're referring to I think is La Ribera, on Plaça Comercial 11.

El Bulli 2008 Reservations

I seriously doubt the veracity of that claim.

Best canned food of Spain

Try Colmado Murria, on c/Roger de Lluria 85 , and Colmado Quilez on Rambla de Catalunya 63.

Decent sushi in Barcelona

Maybe you're mistaking the place, but Shunka is definitely not Chinese owned and run. I've met Hideki Matsuhisa, chef and owner , and he's Japanese through and through

Decent sushi in Barcelona

Yes, Yamadori has a decent selection of fish, not just the usual suspects.

Decent sushi in Barcelona

While you won't find much that is comparable to Bay Area standards, Shunka is quite good, and so is Yamadori.

Inopia? in Barcelona

not worth it IMHO. Go to Tapaç24 instead.

Madrid dinners money no object

I second Viridiana, Sacha and Arce as some of my favorite places in Madrid.
And I would add Kabuki Wellington, Sant Celoni, Arola and DiverXo.

Ferran - not Adria

Indeed, Can Jubany is a great restaurant in Calldetenes, just outside Vic, aprox. one hour away from Barcelona.

The chef's name is Nando Jubany. Indeed Nando is short for Fernando (or Ferran in Catalan).

Definitely recommended.

Ferran - not Adria

Ferran (Fernando in Castillian Spanish) is a very, very popular name in Catalunya. Any other hints you may remember?

Business Dinner in Barcelona

Getting to the Eixample neighborhood, where most restaurants are, is fairly quick by taxi from the Palacio area, I would say a 10-15 minute ride depending on traffic.

Once in Eixample, your options are endless. Just search a few of the other threads about Barcelona.
You have the more modern restaurants, like Saüc, Colibri, Coure, Hisop, Cinc Sentits, etc. All these, except for Cinc Sentits, are a couple of blocks away from Av. Diagonal. Price range I would say EUR 60-90.

The hotel restaurant bracket also has quite a few options: Lasarte, Moo, Drolma. EUR 80-120. These are a bit more centric, located closer to Paseo de Gracia, so a longer ride, maybe 5 minutes more.
All these are suitable for business dinners.

Business Dinner in Barcelona

Not too many options in that area of the city.
Neichel, with one Michelin star and quite close by is a very good choice I think. While not the most modern or trendy of restaurants, it is quiet, with superb food and excellent ingredients, and will serve your purpose IMHO.
Give them a call and see if they can arrange a menu within your range.

Eek! Only 2 nights in Barcelona...where must we dine?

not sure what you mean. Gelato IS traditional ice cream....

Salamanca Restaurant in Barcelona

As butterfly points out, both Orujo de Hierbas and Lemoncello are types of home-made liquor. Many restaurants make them and serve them to their customers.

Salamanca Restaurant in Barcelona

orujo de hierbas maybe? lemoncello?

El Bulli 2008 Reservations

Both places have a la carte menu as well. If I remember correctly, Can Fabes has a couple of tasting menu options, and so does Can Roca, which is, I think, in the 70-120 range or so.

Tarragona and Girona

Well, I happen to like the cherry soup and prawn dish :)

and the poster is actually saying that he will do "experimental places" in Barcelona, so I don't see how he's "obviously not a fan of this type of cuisine". I think you might be projecting :).

Tarragona and Girona

If I were in Girona and interesting cuisine was my motivation I would not doubt, for a minute, to eat at Can Roca. Even before I did "cutting edge" restaurants here in Barcelona, since I don't think there are restaurants here that come even close to CR. This is simply one of the top five or six restaurants in the country.

I understand that you might have had a bad experience there or it wasn't to your liking, but to question if Joan Roca, one of the most respected chefs in the country and perhaps Europe tastes the dishes he sends out might be streching it.

But going back to the poster's original question, there are a few options in the general vicinity of Girona that are of interest, such as Vila Mas in St. Feliu de Guixols, with a very good product-oriented menu and an interesting wine selection, but to visit it you'll either need a car or a longer taxi ride.

Tarragona and Girona

If you're in Girona you don't need a car to get to Can Roca. It's a 5 minute taxi ride from the city center/train station.

BCN: sauc/ hisop/ kresala/ alkimia/ drolma/ evo?!

never heard of it.

BCN: sauc/ hisop/ kresala/ alkimia/ drolma/ evo?!

A note: since it seems you enjoy walking and tapas-crawling :), I would skip desserts at Rias and just go elsewhere. Concentrate your efforts on the seafood!
