Durham Taqueria Update

I love Miranda's tacos, but lately I've been sticking with their plates. They have a few bisteak plates. Bisteak encebollado (with onions), bisteak a la mexicana (with a sometimes very spicy red sauce), and just plain carne asado which is with a little sauce but not much. They have chicken: pollo en salsa verde, pollo en salsa rojo, pollo en mole, and sometimes they have soups. They also recently added fajitas, which is just a slightly different sauce with either steak or chicken. The plates come with a few tortillas and some rice and beans or rice and a salad.

For straight up tacos I've tried both the roxboro place (Carnelita or something?) and super taqueria, and I still like Miranda's better. At the Roxboro place they have an Officer Lopez taco which is delicious (kind of an extra-large taco with a cheesesteak type filling). I didn't find their other tacos that spectacular, especially the chorizo taco. Miranda's is the only place I've had the chorizo taco that is nicely ground and juicy. The other places seem to have it more diced like you would get an asado or pastor taco.

I haven't tried burritos at either the Roxboro place or at Super Taqueria, but I must say I like a good Burrito from Cosmic. Miranda's burritos are ok, but I'll only get them when in a hurry.

Durham Faves

For Chinese I think the best deal in town is China Wok. The hot and sour soup is delicious and their regular menu items are all good quality for cheap prices. It is out of the way and definitely not a place to go for the decor.

For other local foods I eat at Thai Cafe for Thai food, Miranda's for mexican, Kashmir or Sitar for Indian. I used to go to the Saladelia Cafe quite often but haven't been there in a while. I put a premium on cheapness though and am not so willing to pay more money for better food except on special occasions. Also, I go to Pulcinella's for Italian. I love the salad and bread that come with the meal, and I've found all the entrees that I've tried to be very tasty.
