South End/Back Bay Top 10?
Definitely agree with that. Used to go to Picco almost weekly when I lived closer. Even treked there in a blizzard for pizza and ice cream!
Bachelorette party and bar crawl for a foodie
That's definitely a possibility...I had been thinking that the beehive would be fun- pretty good cocktails and live music!
Caesar Salad
I've had the caesar at Picco more than 20 times, always delicious and has never been underseasonsed. I would definitely recommend giving it another try.
Bachelorette party and bar crawl for a foodie
That looks like fun! Unfortunately we're limited to a weekday right before the wedding since a lot of people are flying in from out of town.
Bachelorette party and bar crawl for a foodie
Thanks for the suggestions so far! In response to Vintage Molly, I think there will be more drinking than eating but we definitely want good food to start out with. Some places the bride likes for food is Craigie on Main, Garden at the Cellar, Oleana, East Coast Grill. Unfortunately, we are limited by finances (a lot of us are in or just out of grad school). For drinks, she likes well-crafted cocktails (she'd love Drink but it's kinda out of the way). I'm torn between just going to a place like Eastern Standard and parking there for the night or doing a bar crawl after dinner...not sure what the bar scene will be like on a Wednesday. Other thoughts I have had are Toro followed by Beehive?

As an alternative, can you think of a fun restaurant with good food and drinks that we'd enjoy spending most of the night at on a weekday?
Bachelorette party and bar crawl for a foodie
I know there have been posts in the past about this topic but I still haven't quite found what I'm looking for. My best friend is getting married this summer (mid-June) and I'm trying to plan a fun bachelorette party for her and a party of about 10 people. The party will most likely be on a Wednesday night. Ideally, we'd like to do dinner followed by a bar crawl in either Cambridge or Boston. Requirements for dinner: good food (the bride to be works at Formaggio Kitchen so this is important), takes reservations, entrees around $20, close to good bars for the bar crawl. For bars, would like places with good cocktails (none of us are big beer drinkers)...live entertainment would be a plus! Would love to go to Drink but it's a little out of the way. I've seen Cucci Cucci suggested several times but I'm not sure if that's what I'm looking for. Would be interested to hear other ideas. Thanks!
Formaggio Kitchen 'Beignets'- Like Sweet Bagel Bricks
Just had one of the lemon curd doughnuts from Formaggio. It was actually a lot lighter than I expected based on these reviews and excellent for a baked doughnut. Great balance of sweetness from the icing and toasted coconut and tangyness from the lemon curd. Would definitely go back for more!
Inexpensive lunch and dinner near Central Park West
I ended up going to Lanksy's Deli on Columbus and 71st. (I had tried to go to Bouchon Bakery but it was closed temporarily). Lanksy's was delicious..I had the delicious matzah ball soup and grilled cheese pastrami. Very satisfying on a cold snowy day! On the way back to my hotel I also stopped at Magnolia Bakery for some cupcakes.

Thanks for all the suggestions! Looks like there are a lot of great options close by!
Inexpensive lunch and dinner near Central Park West
I like the Zabar recommendation! We don't really have anything like it in Boston either!
Inexpensive lunch and dinner near Central Park West
I live in Boston but I'll be in NYC this Fri-Sat for an interview. I'm staying in Central Park West (near 63rd St) and I'm looking for some casual and quick lunch options near my hotel. I'm a poor medical student so I'm looking for something on the inexpensive side (around $10 for lunch). I'm open to all types of cuisine, except chinese food. Later on I'm going to an event at a bar (on the west side near 80th st) but I'm not sure there will be much food there so I'm hoping to grab a light and quick bite to eat beforehand. Again, I'd like to keep it on the cheaper side (but willing to spend a little more than lunch). Thanks in advance for your help!
Good eats near the Washington Convention Center
Thanks for all of the suggestions! Can't wait to check some of these places out, especially the Ethiopian restaurants!
Good eats near the Washington Convention Center
I'm flying in to DC from Boston this coming weekend to attend a conference. I'll be staying near the Washington Convention Center and I'm looking for some good restaurants within walking distance (or an easy cab ride). I'm looking mostly for places on the cheaper, more casual side but would maybe splurge one night on something more expensive (entrees low 20s). I'd be interested in cuisine unique to DC, something that I couldn't find in Boston. Thanks in advance!

Need a fun restaurant near Chelsea/Hell's Kitchen
I'm the "overworked friend" and we're actually hoping to find something in between thunderbug's hotel (W 40th between 8th and 9th) and the hospital where I work (26th st and 1st Ave) if possible. Obviously if there is somewhere that's not quite in the middle but has great food I'm willing to travel more. Thanks!
Recommendations for East Village
Wow, thanks for all the suggestions! WIsh I was here longer than 2 more weeks. I better start eating!
Recommendations for East Village
Tried Artichoke tonight. Had a slice of the margherita pizza because I was too hungry to wait for the artichoke pizza to come out of the oven. I'll have to go back when i'm more patient because I saw a few people with the artichoke pizza as I was leaving and it looked pretty good (and messy!).

Tried Caracas last night and had the de pabellon...delicious!!!!! I have a feeling I may be there frequently :)
Recommendations for East Village
I'll be moving to NYC for the next month form Boston and I'm looking for some recommendations in the East Village. I'll be staying near 7th st and 1st ave. I'll be working long hours at Bellevue hospital so I'm looking for something quick. I would like some cheap options, as I'm a medical student, but I would enjoy splurging on a couple of meals as well. Thanks in advance for your recommendations!
Vermont Cheesemakers' Festival, July 25!
A cool thing that Boston people might want to know....
I was in Formaggio Kitchen (in Cambridge) the other day and they were handing out fliers about the Vermont Cheesemakers Festival. Apparently, they are hosting a field trip up to the festival. The field trip tickets include transportation (which includes a cheese seminar while on the bus), tickets to the festival, breakfast, and a private BBQ at Shelburne Farms after the event. Seems like a cool deal! (especially the not driving part!)
There is more info about it on their website: https://www.formaggiokitchen.com/vtcheesemakersfestival

Best BBQ so far in 2010 for Boston, Brookline, Cambridge, Somerville, Arlington
I also love Formaggio's BBQ. I always get their brisket sandwich with extra sauce and onions and some cole slaw. Definitely worth the wait!
homemade ice cream help
Thanks for the tip. I put the ice cream in the fridge tonight when I ate dinner and by the time I was ready for dessert, the ice cream was much softer!
Next batch I'll have to try adding some alcohol!
Do you freeze your ice cream in regular tupperware? I've seen special ice cream containers sold on amazon for about $10-12...is it worth it?
homemade ice cream help
Thanks for the help and reassurance! It still tasted great (I put it over homemade gingerbread cake). Do you think more time in the ice cream maker would beat more air into it?
homemade ice cream help
I actually omitted the alcohol from the recipe. And this is my second time making ice cream (the first one I made was not custard-based).
homemade ice cream help
I made the Williams and Sonoma Pumpkin ice cream today. It had a great consistency after about 20 min in my ice cream maker (soft-serve consistency) so I put it in Tupperware in the freezer. Now it seems to be solid and I'm unable to scoop it without defrosting it. DId I do something wrong? I froze the freezer bowl of my ice cream maker for over 24 hours and I made the custard last night so it chilled overnight. Any other steps I could have forgotten or messed up? Thanks!
Teranga....has anyone been yet?
I recently tried Teranga and had a mixed experience food wise. The sauce the comes with the bread was delicious. We ordered Nems (I think that's what it was called) for the appetizer which were little spring rolls filled wth beef and shrimp and wrapped in what I thought was rice paper and fried. They were so good we ordered another serving of them. The lamb chops were delicious and cooked perfectly but I agree with you on the lamb shank...I prefer mine to be tender and falling off the bone...perhaps I'm just not familiar with Senegalese cuisine? My friend ordered the tilapia which was my least favorite fish. It almost had a bitter taste to it and not much else in the way of flavor. The juice we tried was delicious and the service was very attentive. The only problem we had with the service was that we ordered a one of the salads and what we got didn't fit the menu description. When we pointed this out to the waitress all she did was bring us the dressing that came with the salad we ordered (which wasn't the only reason the salad didn't fit the menu description). I think I'd probably go back to order the Nems and the juice and then move on to Toro or somewhere else nearby for the main course.
