Making Brisket For first time...

It came out good, but I really think next time, I am going to go low and slow at 300. It wasn't falling off the fork....very good flavor, but it could have been better!
Thanks for your advice

Brewing coffee at home in a drip machine

I can't manage to make coffee well @ home. I have a regular 14 cup cuisinart drip. I just bought some Illy coffee. What is the ratio of coffee to water? The package instructions don't work! 1 heaping Tbsp for 10 oz is not close to strong enough! HELP :)

Making Brisket For first time...

I cook a ton, but have never made brisket. I am making Ina Garten's brisket today.
She calls for 6-7 lb brisket and says to cook it for 3.5 hrs at 350.

I got a 5 lb brisket. How should i change timing and temp?

Any tips on adapting her recipe would be great!

Thanks!

Looking for a great lunch recos for pick-up within 10 minutes of Elmsford, NY

I commute to Westchester everyday and struggle with lunch options.
Any recos for good salad and/or soup places (anything healthy) in Hartsdale, Elmsford or in Tarrytown?

Great meal at Bar Stuzzichini

After going back at least 5 times, I am obsessed, it is busy every night of the week. All service kinks have been worked out. There are no bad stuzzichinis and the tuna with pesto is so fresh. There isn't a bad dish in the house.

cafe cluny review

The beet salad was great at Cluny. Sauteed calamari was ok, nothing special. My husband loved the short ribs. Good apple pie.

Great sandwich at 'Wichcraft

Love WichCraft. Their chickpea sandwich is incredible when they press it. Also, their carrot soup with vanilla oil is to die for.

Asian in the village?

Amazing, cheap and cute Thai place called Galanga on the north side of West 4th at 6th Avenue.

Where do I find salsify?

We just got back from dinner at CraftBar. I had an amazing dish of scallops with chanterelles and salsify. Until tonight, I had no idea what salsify was. It's a root vegetable that tastes incredible. I'd love to roast some at home- any idea where it's available in Manhattan? I usually get my food from Freshdirect and see they don't have it.

Great meal at Bar Stuzzichini

We just came back fom Bar Stuzzichini. The food was excellent and well priced. The bread and olive oil were so good. My husband adored the ragu bolognese and the mozzarella antipasti. I had an amazing eggplant caponata and an ok spaghetti with spicy squid (not bad, just not earth shattering either). The service could use work and the place seems like it should be smaller to be a neighborhood type of place. I will definitely go back and check out the 5 Antipastis for $22!

Private Party

Hey,
Since we were having chicken the night after, I had salmon and beef as options. They will work with you to build a menu that is not similar to your wedding menu. We had hors d'oeuvres, salad, choice of salmon, steak or vegetarian pasta and sorbet, coffee or tea.
Hope this helps :) Where you getting married?
Good Luck,
S

Private Party

Hi Kurz,
We had a great rehearsal dinner at Restaurant Du Vieux Port. We were originally hoping to do the dinner at Bice, which is a lot classier, but the owners were unresponsive to my questions and were in no hurry to get together a menu and a contract. The Manager, George, at Au Vieux Port, was very accomodating and was there the night of the party. The salad was extremely good, main meals were good and the desserts were good. The ambiance was perfect, we loved the Old Montreal vibe for the out of towners and the room was set up very well. We negotiated a reasonable price and were very happy with the outcome. I am not into wine, but, you pick out the wine, so shouldn't be an issue. Is this Gibby's or Bice? NO, but it is good (not memorable) food at a reasonable price with responsive service and a beautiful rustic ambiance. Please let me know if you have any other questions!

Olive & Gourmando: UNREAL

On my last visit to Montreal (my hometown), I went to Olive & Gourmando, a rustic cafe in Old Montreal on St. Paul Street. The grilled sandwiches are amazing. People line up to get in and it's worth the wait. Perfect food in a very authentically Old Montreal atmosphere. It is closed on Sundays & Mondays, but I highly recommend it for lunch on any other day of the week. It was recently reviewed in Gourmet Magazine (March, 2005) & was recommended to me by a friend in Montreal. Enjoy!

Devi?

I've been wanting to go to Devi for a long while.Last night, we went & opted for a la carte instead of the tasting menu. The food was good, not unreal. The sweet potato appetizer with the lime and cumin was great, the chicken curry and tikka masala were ok and we liked the jasmine rice and the garlic naan. Net, Net: It's good, not great, and we prefer Tamarind any day.

solo dining flatiron

1)Pizza Fresca has great thin crustnpizza on 20th street.
2)Tamarind Tea room, an offshoot of the upscale Tamarind, is great for cheap lunch takeout (they aren't open at dinner).
3)Mizu, Yama and Haru have great sushi

And, I love Les Halles and have never had a service issue there.

Need appetizer ideas

The Barefoot Contessa has the most wonderful tuna tartare, it is so easy to make and impresses guests every time. Make sure your tuna is super fresh. Check it out on my blog: http://sherribraude.blogspot.com/2006...

Let me know how it goes!

A 4-year Chow tour of NYC--we'd love your help!

Here are two of my favorite local ethnic cheap eats:
1. Ali Baba on 34th (between 2nd and 3rd) in Murray Hill. It is a very reasonable Turkish restaurant with phenomenal food. Try the mixed appetizer plate (it comes with fresh pide)to start and then go for the chicken kebab! Without alcohol, it is at most $15-20 per person. One kebab and one mixed appetizer is enough for 2 hungry ladies !

2. Galanga-on West 4th and 6th Avenue in the West Village is a shoebox of a Thai restaurant. It has a local trendy feel, but is very well priced. If you like spicy, try the drunken noodles!

Private Party

We just had our wedding rehearsal dinner at Restaurant du Vieux Port in Old Montreal. The food was very good, especially the salad. They are super accomodating & have many different private rooms that are very "old Montreal". Gibby's can also accomodate a group of your size....
