UES Italian lunch?

Please recommend Italian restaurants for lunch in the UES, preferably the 80s or lower 90s. Food is important, cost less so, would like a somewhat more casual atmosphere. We like Sfoglia and Luna Rossa, while finding the atmosphere at Paola's too stiff.

Traditional food in Rome

Costanza for lunch

Antipasto: a smoked provolona that was, as my wife put it, "disappointing"

Prima Piatti: rigattoni with black truffles and sausage. Delicious
fettucine with porcini mushrooms. Boring

Wine: Pinot Grigio. Fine

Coffee: very good

Service: very well done

Atmosphere: nice, we appeared to be the only non-Italians

Traditional food in Rome

Is 40 euros per person considered inexpensive in Rome for a lunch with an antipasto and prima piatti, but no secondo piatti, plus a glass of wine and desert?

Traditional food in Rome

In Florence we liked:

Nella: riboletta, gnochhi al gorgonzola, penna al pesto
Natalino: carpacchio, sformatino, fiochino (purses with pear and gorgonzola cream sauce)
Trebbio: mozzar bufala, rigatonni amercina, roast pork and potatoses, ravioli
4 Leoni, salads, pecorini miele, carpaccio, fiocchetta (similar to Natalino)

In Rome, restaurants we have tried tend to be duller and less tasty or not the best quality.

Traditional food in Rome

Please recommend some traditional trattoria type restaurants in Rome. Even after a few trips and much searching, we haven't found much we really like in Rome and are usually much happier with restaurants in Florence.

A typical meal might be an antipasto, pasta, wine and desert. Something in the general range of 70-80 euros for two people.

Termini, Villa Borghese and Pantheon neighborhoods.

We're staying there because it seemed a convenient hub for the places we want to visit.

Please suggest anything good within reasonable driving distance.

Truffles in Florence in Oct???

Why don't you recommend Cinghiale Bianco?

We had a great meal there in 1992. It was also great in 2002, but this time they had a separate tourist section where they sat us.

Vladimiro Ristorante Marcello

Any recent experiences with Vladimiro Ristorante Marcello in Rome? We've enjoyed it a lot whenever we ate there, most recently about three years ago, but a number of recent reviews on other sites are rather negative. I'm hoping it hasn't changed for the worse and that the negative reviews are not representative.

Eleven Madison Park & Picky Eater

As I mentioned, she has too many dislikes to list.

Eleven Madison Park & Picky Eater

We're planning to eat at Eleven Madison Park. My dining companion has a long list of food dislikes. Given that the menu only lists the main ingredient for each dish (and the tasting menu may offer even less detail), we're concerned that some dishes would include ingredients she dislikes.

EMP's web site says to "share any thoughts or preferences, including any ingredient dislikes, and allow us to design their meal from there." Alas, she has too many dislikes to list.

Will this be a problem? The best solution would be for her to see a menu that lists main ingredients for each course (i.e., a normal menu), but that doesn't seem to be how EMP operates.

I suppose the best alternative is to discuss the matter with our server. Any other suggestions, including anything we might do in advance?

Italian near Morgan Library (Madison & 36th)?

If jeans are acceptable on a Saturday night, I suppose we'll be fine for a Friday lunch.

Are we likely to need reservations?

Anything else good in the neighborhood?

Italian near Morgan Library (Madison & 36th)?

Does not appeal because it doesn't look like I'd be happy wearing a polo shirt and sneakers. Price is fine. Do you think I'd be ok at Ai Fiori so attired?

Ciano looks nice, although I would prefer something a bit closer

Italian near Morgan Library (Madison & 36th)?

We're planning to see the Morgan Library tomorrow and were looking for an Italian restaurant in the immediate area. Something nice, but where we'll be comfortable wearing short sleeve shirts and sneakers.

Google maps comes up with Ai Fiori, but the pictures make it seem like bankers who lunch, which is not quite the atmosphere I'm looking for.

Best near St. James

Agreed - the menu doesn't really work.

Any view on these:
- Kitchen A Trattoria
- Ragazzi
- Mauricio's Orlando II
- Mosaic (menu doesn't work, but web site says options for dietary restrictions always available)

They used to like Mirabelle, but don't like it in the new location

Best near St. James

We're planning to take my parents (who are getting on in years) out for a special meal. They live in St James, so I'd like something within reasonable driving distance. One of the party is a vegetarian, so steak houses, sea food or the like isn't ideal

What would you recommend?

Decent Italian that delivers UES?

Have you tried their delivery? Does the food travel well?

According to its website, Maruzella doesn't deliver north of 86th

Decent Italian that delivers UES?

That's one of our favorite local restaurants and exactly the restaurant I was thinking of when I said I was concerned about food not traveling well.

For example, last time we were there I had a gnocchi dish and my wife had a seafood (in shell) pasta. Would these really still work well by the time they got delivered to us?

What's your experience?

Decent Italian that delivers UES?

I'm looking for recommendations for a reasonable Italian restaurant that delivers in the Gracie Mansion area.

I'm mainly interested in pasta dishes. Something a cut above generic, but I'm concerned higher end food won't travel well.

Fresno Italian?

Google maps has it about 16 minutes v. 23 for the old.

Have they worked out the kinks and improved service since opening?

Fresno Italian?

What you recommend for an Italian restaurant in Fresno? About a year ago when we were in Fresno we tried Parma, which was great. Anything else we should try? If not, we'll most likely eat at Parma again.

We'll be staying near the airport and would prefer not to have to drive that far.

Rughetta -> Luna Rossa

Rughetta (85th & 1st), one of my favorite local Italian restaurants, has now become Luna Rossa. The menu is essentially the same (including some dishes with Rughetta in the name), but the decor and wait staff have changed since the last time we went. The food was at least as good.

Anyone know if it's just a name change or a change in management?

We had a very nice dinner at Parma. I'd recommend it to anyone looking for Italian in the area.

Thanks everyone!

Italian in Fresno?

Oggi looks a bit more basic than we'd like and Trelio looks a bit less Italian than we'd like.

Is there likely to be road construction or other traffic issues Sequoia to Parma to airport area? We'd plan on an early dinner, given a flight first thing in the morning.

That looks great. Google maps shows the way.

Is there anything comparable closer to the airport or between Sequoia and Fresno? Or is this the clear winner for the area?

Italian in Fresno?

We will be in Fresno on a Tuesday night in mid-October, on our way from Sequoia National Park back to Fresno Airport and are looking for a great Italian restaurant for dinner. (Early morning flight on Wednesday; staying at airport Marriott).

What would you recommend?

UES Italian for anniversary dinner

We had dinner at Spigolo tonight (not yet our anniversary). The food was very tasty. The portions seemed normal sized; not at all mini.

The room was nice enough. It would have been reasonably quiet if not for some self-absorbed woman who was shouting. Other than her, we could barely hear anyone else, including her dining companion. The restaurant was half empty and the walls were open for outside dining, which may have affected noise level.

We would definitely go back.
