Los Angeles Restaurants in the 80's

Does anyone know what became of Shibuyo? After he sold Shibucho on Beverly, he opened another Shibucho on the top floor of the Little Tokyo Mall.. I lost track after that.

Buffalo Wings in LA

Ok, I will admit it...
I have serious addictive issues with Buffalo Wings. I wanted to toss this out to find out where people feel the best places in LA are to get them. If this is not possible, perhaps someone could recommend
a good twelve step program.. Thanks...

I'm surprised that no one has mentioned Angeli on Melrose (the branches in WLA and the Marina were good too). With its Morphosis design, It always seemed to me to be an 80's icon. I guess its been closed a year and a half now.

I remember visiting Euereka a few times as well. I wanted it to succeed. Alas, the food was great, but I recall rating the beer at B-

Actually it could have been. This would have been about 25 years ago. I'm still in touch with the friend I was dining with so I'll ask him if he remembers. I'll get back to you

72 Market Street was always one of my favorites. I recall I was eating dinner there on one week night when Dudley Moore appeared at the piano, played two pieces and then disappeared.

The City Cafe on Melrose became the original Border Grill.
I can't remember which block, but I believe it was somewhere between La Brea and Fairfax on the north side of the street.

In Search of Great Olive Oil..

I agree that Trader Joe's Spanish Oil may be the best bang for buck. I seem to recall they were selling an unfiltered first pressing Italian oil over the holidays. I didn't get a chance to taste it though...

In Search of Great Olive Oil..

I'm a big fan of ethnic markets in LA. I'm on the westside and there are some pretty good Persian markets with great olives and feta. Does any one have a line on olive oil ? I'm a big fan of the cloudy- unfiltered variety, It work like butter, but better...

Happy Hour Dining On The West Side?

As someone who has been impacted by these "interesting" economic times, I'm finally appreciating my blue-haired grandmother's constant search for early-bird specials. Eat early for 1/2 price? No problem.
Unfortunately Fig has discontinued its "Fig at Five" 1/2 price promo. The Library Ale House has a Happy Hour which when utilized on "Hamburger Monday", makes for a pretty good deal. Does anyone have more recs?

SANTA MONICA SEAFOOD- For those with more money than brains

As a 15 years plus fan and client of Santa Monica Seafood, today was my epiphany. The new location is more convenient. and hey the Raw Bar is cool...
but the prices are insane !

$30 lb for Copper River Salmon ? $26 lb for Swordfish ?.. isn't there there some kind of Economic Downturn going on ? (the same Swordfish can be purchased for less than half the price at the Pacific Palisades Sunday Farmers Market). Bracing myself from the sticker shock I trudged on to Whole Foods where I found some fine Halibut for $5 cheaper a pound.

Doesn't it seem that there's something wrong in the world when "Whole Paycheck" has the best prices? I guess that's it for me with Santa Monica Seafood.. anyone have any thoughts for alternative Westside fish markets ?

Need a good butcher

I can only speak from a Westside perspective, but I've had great luck with Victor's on National Blvd. in Culver City. The Farms on Montana around 21st. in Santa Monica is great, but not cheap.

Wine Tasting in Paso Robles [Moved from Wine board]

I'm a serious Rhone fan who'll be tooling through Paso Robles next week end. Any tips for wine tasting rooms? I know Parker is presently infatuated with L'Adventure, Cale Lindo and Saxon. Does anyone know if these guys have tasting rooms?

West Side Take-Out Fried Chicken

Any tips/recommendations for Santa Monica - West Side Fried Chicken to go? Seems to me there some stories about Albertsons Fried Chicken being surprisingly good.
