Ample HIlls Creamery Hype overwhelms reality
"Ample Hills Creamery"?!? Is the name some sort of reference to breast milk? Maybe that explains the issues with mouthfeel.

Tortas Neza - Great tacos in Woodside
@Punto: I fear the deadzone.
Have you tried New Thomson’s Dominican diner, 32-44 Queens Blvd, Long Island City?

Micheladas of San Diego
Cocteleria La Playita on Clairemont Drive makes a killer "Vampiro" with agua de camarón.
Will be attending NYU in fall and need some good, cheap eats, comrades!
Dos Toros es muy mediocre. You might have to leave the neighborhood or the borough to get good Mex.

Food Trucks in the City- What are the Hits and Misses
Saria - 6th and 28th truck sounds worth a visit. is it a daytime operation or a nighttime thing?
"must try" in 2011
Nixtamal has become choked with gringos and friends say it has gone downhill.
Tacos El Bronco -- If you like Tacos Matamoros...
I thought the restaurant tacos were even better than from the cramped truck.
Tacos El Bronco -- If you like Tacos Matamoros...
We were down in Sunset Park last night for the Virgin of Guadelupe procession (Qué Viva la Virgin!) and were drawn by the flashing tricolor signage of Tacos El Bronco.
Damn! Some serious taco action, especailly for such a deprived city as Nueba Yol.
El Bronco began as a late night truck across from Sunset Park at 5th Avenue and 43rd Street, which still maintains a nightly 30 minute wait for to-go tacos and cups of consomme, mainly appreciated by the Mex service worker crowd. Now, the restaurant gives you a cozy place out of the cold to dig their tacos, perhaps with a smuggled six pack (BYOB for the time being).
I can't tell you anything about the rest of the menu because, like everyone else in the place, we were focused on the tacos: excellent suadero, best al pastor I've had in NYC (with noticeable pineapple bits) , tripa, lengua, chorizo etc. Each plate comes with an expertly grilled cebollita or two, sliced radishes and cukes. Glistening! (See photo.)
The set up is similar to güero-friendly Tacos Matamoros around the corner: $1.50 for a small taco, and $2.50 for a large with a schmear of guacamole. Matamoros is good, but when the kitchen is in high-volume mode it seems to get a little sloppy and craftsmanship suffers.
Not so, not yet at El Bronco...
...at the corner of 4th Avenue and 44th Street, look for the flashing tricolor sign
...open till 1 am weekdays, 5 am on the weekends, for those on the late shift or coming home from Peyton's
Check it out. Mucho authentico.
tamales for fishing trip?
Tamlaes the next day without reaheating would be gross and sweaty, even in a Coleman cooler.
Ecuadorian in Elmhurst/Jackson Heights?
Anyone have a rec for where to get a tasty humita?
Tacos El Bronco - Sunset Park
I haven't seen any love for this taco truck on Chowhound, but El Bronco is righteous.
Tonight I had some excellent suadero (brisket) and lengua, and a nice beef consome while waiting. I saw a gorgeous spit of al pastor, but have yet to try. For a town that needs more taco trucks, here is a very good one.
Every night but Wednesday, 8 pm to 5 am, on 5th Ave between 43 St and 44 St, right across from Sunset Park, and just a couple of blocks from Peyton's for a post-club fix.
Brooklyn's Best Sandwiches
Patties? Check out Tastee Pattie, Church Ave and E. 95 St. in E. Flatbush/Brownsville. Lives up to its name.
Authentic Gorditas
Year ago I had one amazing deep-fried gordita de chicharron after another, with sliced jalapenos added, at one of the stalls in the vast butcher area of Mercado la Lagunilla in Mex City. Damn, they were good.
BEST Cookies
Actually, I misspoke. They're cumin-scented. I take it you don't like them. To me, sublime.
BEST Cookies
Narala Bakery, Coney Island Avenue just above Cortelyou, makes amazing cardomon-scented salted butter cookies, others with almond, pistachio. Always fresh. All $6 a pound.
lefferts/flatbush updates
Huh, I always thought the food at Veggie Castle was foul (though not the arquitecture), while we agree on Exquisite.
Do you know if the Exquisite on Parkside from the same people, with the same menu as the one on Church? There's another Exquisite at Nostrand and St. John, but the offerings look pretty different, and it lacks the massive, high volume grill of jerk chicken as at the Church Ave location.
Rickshaw Dumpling Truck in Park Slope
Why Park Slope? High concentration of suckers with whiney kids.
Brook Vin, new wine bar
thanks TBird for your opinions, based on which i'll stay the hell away.
Seeking best Turkish food in Sheepshead Area
Check out Memo, Kings Highway and E. 19th. Excellent and inexpensive.

Best Burrito in NY?
Yeah, lots of burritos have rice in them, and beans and cheese and meat and salad and maybe sour cream and guacamole. Gringo food, and maybe some people's sock full of goodness. But less is usually more, and Mexican burritos tend to simpler, like carne enchilada wrapped in a tortilla, or whole beans and machaca together. Sometimes 7-11 sells nice frozen ones with beef and cheese, that you heat up in the microwave, preferably when drunk. Still way better than Chipotle.
Best Burrito in NY?
And with lard, si Dios quiere.
And makers of said burritos might want to skip the lettuce and rice that makes Chipotle/McD's such a sockful of bland swill.
Orale, Flaco.
Best Burrito in NY?
Agreed. Chipotle is gross. All that capital from Micky D's and they couldn't even steam the tortilla. The whole thing was chalky in my mouth. Erstaz "fresh" does not mean not gross. In Poblano-heavy NY, Mex restaurants just make burritos for skippy doodle. Yeah, so stick to the tacos.
Getting to know Greenpoint and Williamsburg
Yes, Z, skippydoodle is ascendent. Get used to it. Your mucho authetico ways are dead and corrupt, like Fujimori and Anibal Guzman.
