Banchan (Lahaina, Kauai or Hilo) Thanks. Not near Danbury, but I'll pass on the info. Lucky for you that you get all the banchan! Would love to hear your report of Isana if you make it there. I found a menu online, but no prices were listed. That seems to be common with restaurants in Hawaii. |

Banchan (Lahaina, Kauai or Hilo) I'll be coming to Hawaii in October and I'm hoping to find a Korean restaurant that serves banchan in or near Lahaina or Hilo or somewhere on Kauai. I'm from San Francisco and traveling with someone from Connecticut. I have told him about banchan and he is eager to try it. I'd appreciate any suggestions. Mahalo. |

I think 22nd and Mission Market usually has them. |

Where can I find raw horseradish in SF? Mollie Stone's usually has it this time of year. I've gotten it at Whole Foods in the past. Think I saw some at the 24th Street store. |

Looking for quail eggs in SF or Marin I have seen them at Whole Foods. |

Mission Market Fish and Poultry sells turkey breasts and legs. I think other places do as well. A turkey breast is pretty big. I think you can get a half, but that would still probably feed him for more than 2 meals. If you aren't familiar with this place, it is in the back of the Mission Food Hall. You can also enter from the back on Bartlett Street where there is metered parking. Mission Market Fish and Poultry |

Would you mind sharing your roasted olives with Marcona almonds recipe? Sounds delicious. |

Thanksgiving: What do you make ahead? Sounds wonderful. Would love the recipe and also the one for your brussel sprouts and chestnuts. |

His card says knives, scissors and tools sharpened, repaired and sold. He was parked at Bush and Sansome today and told me he hopes to be there everyday. Anyone ever had him sharpen anything? If so, were you happy? Would be a convenient way for me to have knives sharpened before Thanksgiving, but I'd like to know he does a good job. |

Carmel and Monterey - 2 lunches and 1 dinner I'm looking for suggestions for a place for lunch in Carmel and places for lunch and dinner in Monterey. Would prefer seafood for the dinner in Monterey, but am open to other cuisines or dinner in Carmel, if no Monterey recommendations. Lunches on the moderate side. Already have a reservation for dinner at Passionfish. Are Katy's and the Cottage in Carmel good for lunch or are they strictly breakfast places? TIA |

Kosher for Passover Coke found in San Francisco Mollie Stone's (California and Fillmore) has it. 2 litre bottles for $1.50. The bottles have a yellow cap. It is next to the K for P frozen food, near the fish counter. |
|
|
In case anyone else is looking, both Mollie Stone's in San Francisco have it. It wasn't with the Passover endcap display, but in the Ethnic Section at one store. I have found that if you can't find Passover items in the large displays, they are often in the Ethnic Section. |

gefilte fish--can I freeze it? At what heat do you cook yours? My recipe says to cook for 1 hour at a slow boil without uncovering. I always seem to have trouble maintaining a slow boil and end up frequently adjusting the temperature. Would love to just leave it alone for less time and feel confident that they are cooked through. |

There was a taco truck parked on Sansome between Bush and Sutter (closer to Sutter) today at lunchtime. I think it was called San Buena. I was on my way back to my office with lunch when I saw it, so didn't try it. They seem to have tacos, burritos and tortas. Has anyone tried it? |

I'm looking for suggestions on where in San Francisco to purchase flat cut brisket. It is for a holiday meal and I want good quality, but also don't want to pay an exorbitant price. I'll try the usual places, but I don't usually buy this cut, so wondered if anyone had any specific brands they like. TIA |

I'm looking for suggestions for favorite and/or unusual dippers for fondues (cheese and chocolate). TIA |

where can I buy Andy Capp's Hot Fries??? The Big Lots on Mission in San Francisco has them. They also have Peter Pan peanut butter. Big Lots doens't always have the same products and I'm not sure if all store carry the same things, so you should probably call first. ----- |

Where can I find Coffee Crisp in SF? Fiona's Sweetshoppe might have them. ----- |

Mexican Markets in SF-Carne Asada You might want to try Casa Guadalupe 2, 2909 Mission Street (between 25th & 26th Streets), 642-8355. I have never bought meat there, but I know they have Carne Asada. I don't know if they have it marinated, but it's probably worth a call. |

Diet Soda + Cake Mix = How does this Work?? I believe that when boxed cake mixes were first sold, they only called for water, but people didn't trust them or felt they weren't doing enough and they didn't sell well. Once they called for eggs/milk/oil they sold better. These were not needed, but didn't hurt. I'm not positive this is still the case, but think it probably is. |

Help I Need A Stuffed Breast of Veal Recipe. [Moved from Kosher board] My parents often made this for Passover. I looked through the Passover envelope of recipes and found 2 written by my Mom. I'm giving you both. It's funny, I don't remember having different kinds different years. Not sure which was preferred. I remember it always being good. Her notes say to see Julia Child's veal breast stuffing for technique. The first one doesn't have exact amounts. salt & pepper meat For 4 breasts. Don't know how many people you are feeding, but it might help to know that we used 3 breasts to serve 14 adults and 5 kids and had one left over for the next night. Hope these are helpful! |

Anyone ready to discuss the seder menu? It's very nice of you to bring the Seder to your Mom. Sounds like a great dinner. What do you put in your matzah farfel casserole? None of my business, but you might want to include the seder plate. It isn't too much work and it might help you to feel that it's "not to little" which I don't think your plan is. Plus, it's always "fun" to roast the egg and hope you get it away from the heat before it explodes. I hope you and your family have a nice holiday. |

I believe Rainbow Grocery carries it. |

Cadbury Creme Eggs...? [moved from What's My Craving] It's probably too late for fitziedawl, but for all you creme egg fans, I saw them at Walgreens yesterday. They had a sign that said not just for Easter anymore (or something like that). |
