Divorce does not necessarily mean that a person failed at marriage.

Sanctuary or Bachelor Farmer

Thank you for the info. Had no idea about the politics of BF. Hmm.

Sanctuary or Bachelor Farmer

Location is definitely part of the reasoning - we will be staying at the Renaissance on S 3rd and want something within walking distance or a short cab ride. Have heard some good things about BF and am intrigued by the tasting menu at Sanctuary. If there is something decidedly better in the area, please suggest it - especially if there is a tasting menu option. Thanks again.

Sanctuary or Bachelor Farmer

Am visiting Minneapolis in June and staying downtown - no car. We plan to go to the Swedish Institute for a lunch and a Twins game. Am trying to choose between Bachelor Farmer and Sanctuary. If you very rarely visited the TC, what would you choose?

KC ~ did all the posters move?

For prime rib, Hereford House is hit or miss, J ALexanders and Houstons, while chains have been consistent. Chaz in the Raphael Hotel has a prime rib special on Sunday that I have always wanted to try. If you go there, can you report back?

Can yellow and orange bell peppers be substituted for green?

I always substitute red or orange peppers for green. Green peppers hurt my stomach.

good rub for beef

Thanks, I know how to google - was looking for actual recommendations.

good rub for beef

Anyone have a good recipe for a rub or a recommendation for a commercial rub that enhances real beef flavor - not hides it? I used Fatboy steak rub last weekend and it added a pastrami-like flavor to the meat.
Also, nothing too heavy with garlic - husband is sensitive. Thanks

Kansas City for one night

Thanks for posting your report. I live in KC and am looking forward to trying Charisse.

Story and Rye are both excellent local restaurants - solo dining probably better at Rye.

Question re Fort MyersFlorida

Randy's Fishmarket on the Tamiami Trail between Fort Myers and Naples is not fancy, but has a great variety of Florida fresh fish and excellent stone crabs in season. As the name implies, it is a fishmarket as well as a restaurant. My husband and I always go several times when we are in SW Florida.

Christmas dinner in Ft. Lauderdale?

I am not a local, so hopefully, others will chime in with great ideas, but my husband and I have stayed at the Marriott Harbour Beach (south of the Westin) a few times to escape our winters. Las Olas (a short cab ride away) has many restaurants - we love Johnny V's and Big City Tavern. I think Johnny V's is open - great Italian and seafood and you cannot beat the thrill of eating outside in the winter IMO.

What store bought food do you "doctor up"?

I buy Amy's frozen cheese pizza and add about 5 slices of provolone to it and bake it in a convection oven. Sometimes we then top it with drained canned pears - weird but really good.

Cuban food - Palm Beach County

Am going back to West Palm to visit my mother. Besides Don Ramon's and Havana - any great Cuban restaurants in the area to check out?

The Chew---a few years later.

I have been willing to give the Chew a chance from the beginning because I am a fan Of Clinton, Mario, and Carla Hall. I agree with you, I think it has gotten better and it is one of the daytime shows I dvr to watch while I am doing stuff around the house. I have made a couple of recipes from the show - the best one has been Clinton's pork tenderloing with apples and shallots. Easy and delicious.

Reco on the way to FLL airport?

Johnny V's is not what I would call fancy. I have had two very good dinners there. Both times, the fish was excellent and fun to sit outside to people watch.

LA Hound visiting KC for football and bbq

For Lc's tailgating just go early and get take out. You can try calling but when they are busy they have a tough time with taking phone orders. Get ribs and burnt ends and onion rings - not a healthy meal but totally delicious.

If you like blues, check out Knuckleheads - again, in a dicey part of town, but the music there can be great and the venue is certainly unique.

LA Hound visiting KC for football and bbq

Since it is close to the stadiums, my husband and I love to pick up burnt ends (pork, not beef) and onion rings at LC's and tailgate before games. IMO, the best barbecue in KC.

Also, Classic Cup on the Plaza does a nice breakfast.

The Great and the Good - trip report

Just got back from a three day weekend with my sister in Seattle. Here are the foodie highlights:

Great: the albacore cabbage salad at London Plane; baked gigante beans, grilled halloumi cheese, and smoked clam dip at Westward; spring salad, duck terrine, grilled sardines, fried oysters at The Carpenter and the Whale; Tower of Power and veggie benedict at Wild Mountain Cafe; cheese plate, rose, and the view at Maximilien; and browsing the aisles at Big John's and Uwajimaya.
Good: baby artichoke and chevre tart at Cassis Alki; bonbon salad, hanoi pork at Tamarind Tree.
Wonderful weekend!

Wild Mountain Cafe - Ballard

Thanks for giving me the go-ahead. My sister and I had a wonderful breakfast. I had the Tower of Power with 2 eggs and it was fresh and delicious. My sister loved her vegetarian eggs benedict, too. We lucked out and had no wait - even though it was Saturday.

Wild Mountain Cafe - Ballard

Thinking about trying this place for breakfast when I visit in June. Any thoughts? I have been to a lot of the great breakfast places like Portage Bay and want to try something different with gluten-free options.

Ft. Myers Trip Report -- 3/14

Anytime we are in Fort Myers or Naples, we always go to Randy's Fishmarket on the Tamiami Trail. Not fancy, but amazing fish and stone crabs (when in season.) The sauted tripletail sandwich is our favorite.

Kansas City recommendations please

Where are you staying? Have not been to Novel so cannot help you there. Have been to Rye (riff on Heartland food) for lunch and it was very good. If you like Extra Virgin, La Bodega is similar as it is small plates. Really like the ahi tuna and the shrimp wrapped in pancetta there - don't get the paella, it is consistently dry. If you like beef, we often take out of towners to Garozzos for bistecca modiga. All of these are in the Leawood - Overland Park area.

And if you are trying more barbecue - LC's is the best, hands-down. Burnt ends - heavenly.
