The Chew---a few years later.

I have been willing to give the Chew a chance from the beginning because I am a fan Of Clinton, Mario, and Carla Hall. I agree with you, I think it has gotten better and it is one of the daytime shows I dvr to watch while I am doing stuff around the house. I have made a couple of recipes from the show - the best one has been Clinton's pork tenderloing with apples and shallots. Easy and delicious.

Reco on the way to FLL airport?

Johnny V's is not what I would call fancy. I have had two very good dinners there. Both times, the fish was excellent and fun to sit outside to people watch.

Oklahoma Joe's to change name

It's about time!

LA Hound visiting KC for football and bbq

For Lc's tailgating just go early and get take out. You can try calling but when they are busy they have a tough time with taking phone orders. Get ribs and burnt ends and onion rings - not a healthy meal but totally delicious.

If you like blues, check out Knuckleheads - again, in a dicey part of town, but the music there can be great and the venue is certainly unique.

Since it is close to the stadiums, my husband and I love to pick up burnt ends (pork, not beef) and onion rings at LC's and tailgate before games. IMO, the best barbecue in KC.

Also, Classic Cup on the Plaza does a nice breakfast.

The Great and the Good - trip report

Just got back from a three day weekend with my sister in Seattle. Here are the foodie highlights:

Great: the albacore cabbage salad at London Plane; baked gigante beans, grilled halloumi cheese, and smoked clam dip at Westward; spring salad, duck terrine, grilled sardines, fried oysters at The Carpenter and the Whale; Tower of Power and veggie benedict at Wild Mountain Cafe; cheese plate, rose, and the view at Maximilien; and browsing the aisles at Big John's and Uwajimaya.
Good: baby artichoke and chevre tart at Cassis Alki; bonbon salad, hanoi pork at Tamarind Tree.
Wonderful weekend!

Wild Mountain Cafe - Ballard

Thanks for giving me the go-ahead. My sister and I had a wonderful breakfast. I had the Tower of Power with 2 eggs and it was fresh and delicious. My sister loved her vegetarian eggs benedict, too. We lucked out and had no wait - even though it was Saturday.

First time visit to Seattle- what to do, where to eat, and cask beer?

Where specifically in the ID is the foot massage?

Wild Mountain Cafe - Ballard

Thinking about trying this place for breakfast when I visit in June. Any thoughts? I have been to a lot of the great breakfast places like Portage Bay and want to try something different with gluten-free options.

Ft. Myers Trip Report -- 3/14

Anytime we are in Fort Myers or Naples, we always go to Randy's Fishmarket on the Tamiami Trail. Not fancy, but amazing fish and stone crabs (when in season.) The sauted tripletail sandwich is our favorite.

Kansas City recommendations please

Where are you staying? Have not been to Novel so cannot help you there. Have been to Rye (riff on Heartland food) for lunch and it was very good. If you like Extra Virgin, La Bodega is similar as it is small plates. Really like the ahi tuna and the shrimp wrapped in pancetta there - don't get the paella, it is consistently dry. If you like beef, we often take out of towners to Garozzos for bistecca modiga. All of these are in the Leawood - Overland Park area.

And if you are trying more barbecue - LC's is the best, hands-down. Burnt ends - heavenly.

Kansas City Food Itinerary

Appreciate the post - KC does have more than barbecue - even though ours is terrific. I agree with you about the chicken thighs at EV (from the longer post) but have had great meals there - KC can do "fancy."

Missouri

Sophia's and Murry's are my two favorites when I visit Columbia. I am not a fan of spicy, so I cannot help you there, but Sophia's has great small plates and Murry's is casual with good soups, sandwiches, salads, and desserts.

Girls weekend in Kansas City. HELP

Cafe Trio on the Plaza would be a good choice. They generally are decorated very festively at holiday time. Sit in the bar area and order small plates and fun drinks. Food is good and the people watching and atmosphere is great.

I-50 or I-70 area between Columbia and Kansas City

Glad that the Brick Front Grill is still open. I ate there years ago and was very impressed with my lunch and the desserts there. I tend to drive through Sedalia at odd times and it is always closed - happy that they are still in business.

I-50 or I-70 area between Columbia and Kansas City

Rocheport is about 15 miles west of Columbia - cute town with a few b&b's and antique shops. I like eating at Les Bourgeouis - very pretty views and good food.

Kansas City - Seeking a couple of restaurant recs for sightseeing trip

Dave is right - J Gilbert's and Bristol's are the best recs for steak and seafood near the OP Marriott. For some local ingredient places not too far away from Metcalf, check out Mission Farms. Room 39 is local ingredient, seasonal ingredients; Blanc's Burgers and Bottles specializes in fun twists on burgers and shakes. I have not eaten at Rye - nor will I due to a bad experience with the management - but others say that they have had good meals there - local ingredients and "heartland" food.

Any seafood Restaurant's near overland park?

I have never had a bad meal at the Bristol and they do list the origins of all of their fish.

Staub cocotte - dishwasher safe?

After reading comparisons, I just bought a Staub cocotte. Has anyone with one wash it frequently in the dishwasher? How has it held up? The instructions say that they can, but the non-stick may get damaged. Thanks for the help.

Kansas City BBQ & Other Restaurant Recommendations

I agree, have never had bbq to compare with the burnt ends at LC's - have been there in the past month and they are still great.

Jack Stack is more of a restaurant than a bbq place - if you go, get the beans.

I have not been terribly impressed by Spin, but we had a group from all of over the country staying in KC for the past three weeks, and they liked Spin so much, they went back three times.

Downtown KC business lunch choice

I really like Aixois but maybe Extra Virgin? Favorite with my lady-foodie friends.

Traveling 70W from Columbus to Denver, Where must we stop?

I seem to be constantly posting this on this board. Go to LC's!!! Get the burnt ends (I prefer the pork but the beef is great, too.) The ribs are also fantastic and the onion rings round out the experience. You will not be disappointed.

If you want to eat in Independence, Ophelia's food and atmosphere are lovely - service can be unprofessional, but trying hard. Only been there for dinner - I think they also have a Sunday brunch.

Red Door Grill, Leawood, KS

Went to Red Door Grill last week for lunch. The service was extremely accomodating and the food a mixed bag. I had the roasted tomato, mozzarella, and arugula salad. Great dressing and I loved the arugula, but the tomato did not seem roasted - instead it was almost like a large canned tomato had landed on my plate. Two people at the table had flatbreads - they both loved the crust and the person who ordered the one with sausage was very happy with the toppings. The person who ordered the artichoke flatbread wished that the artichoke was not chopped quite so fine as it lacked texture.

The chicken salad sandwich was pronounced bland but the house and the caesar salads were fresh and delicious.

No complaints from the one who ordered the steak sandwich and the teenager who ordered the chicken tenders from the child's menu said that they were great.

I would go back during happy hour and give it another try - there is an outside area for one of our nice weather evenings.

Eggs Benedict in KC

It is not the traditional benedict, but the steak benedict at Webster House in KC is really wonderful. It is a tenderloin on a potato pancake with spinach and hollandaise. Very rich but delicious when I had it there. I think brunch is only on Sunday.
