Advice for 3 nights near New Glarus/1 night in Milwaukee?

Each time we make the Milwaukee - Chicago trip, we stop at the Brat Stop right off the highway in Kenosha. Delicious char-grilled brats and sauerkraut.

From Wichita to Des Moines for the weekend

Sorry there has been no response - but besides KC, I do not think there really is anything between Wichita and Des Moines.

Breakfast near the Renaissance

Did go to Hell's Kitchen - easy walk - great food. One of us had the portabello benedict and the other the classic breakfast with ham. Food was delicious - we also ordered one lemon ricotta pancake - really good. Love that breakfast is served all day as we got a later start that morning. Thanks for the help.

Sanctuary or Bachelor Farmer

Ended up not eating much at the game - the Twins were scoring like crazy and did not want to miss the excitement. We did split a Polish sausage with kraut from Kramarczuk's - it was delicious. Was very impressed with the different local choices available - I live in KC and the food at the K is mostly corporate and terrible.

Thank you for your advice - we ended up going to Restaurant Alma and had one of the best meals either of us had eaten in months. The restaurant itself was cozy, the service friendly and professional and the food was outstanding. Highlights were the second course spring vegetables with chick peas, the main course sturgeon with potato salad, and the chocolate dessert. We had walked all that day so we cabbed it to Alma, but enjoyed walking the Stone Arch Bridge the following day.

Breakfast near the Renaissance

We will be staying at the Renaissance - the Depot early next week - are there any great breakfast places close by? Will not have a car - is Hell's Kitchen the best place within walking distance - walking distance meaning up to a 15 minute walk? Thanks in advance.

Are steak chains better in KC vs non-steak towns

I agree - I took out-of-towners to Jess and Jim's and was rather embarrassed. We did not mind the dive setting but the meat itself was not great, and one guest had to send her steak back because it was overcooked. The second steak was overcooked as well.
I think the filet at J Gilbert's is great. Also, it is not standard, but the bisteca modiga at Garozzos is always excellent at the Overland Park location. It has been great at the original location as well.

Best Lunch in KC? July 3rd (Friday)

It is a drive out of town - but Justus Drugstore in Smithville is rather remarkable. Check out the menu.

Best Lunch in KC? July 3rd (Friday)

Aixois, Julian, Extra Virgin are my favorite lunch choices if I am having lunch with a woman. All have vegetarian-ish choices, great food, and good atmospheres.

Since you are going to the game, make sure you eat before you get to the ballpark or bring your own food. I love Kauffman Stadium, but the food served there is probably the worst in MLB - with the exception of Topsy's popcorn (so addictive). Go Royals!

Must eat places in KC? Need some suggestions.

Fritz's is a great suggestion for kids. Sort of near the airport is Trezo Mare - good food and a variety of choices. Pretty area.

Must eat places in KC? Need some suggestions.

Can you give some parameters? Other than barbecue, what kind of food are you looking for? Also, is geography an issue, since the KC metro is spread out.

However, if barbecue is still on the itinerary, LC's burnt ends are the best barbecue I have ever eaten and something I make sure everyone who visits me in KC eats.

is there a place where I can find some reliable Sonoma wineries itineraries?

Lynmar and Gary Farrell are beautiful. I really enjoyed our Iron Horse experience - very rustic in a cool way. Since I am a sparkling wine fan and my husband's favorite is pinot, it was perfect for us.

Recent KC visits, 4/15

Sorry to hear that Rye was hit or miss. Went with a group two weeks ago and the food was excellent. I had salmon which was great - rave reviews from those who ordered the fried chicken.

Thanks - we are definitely going to tour Target Field; I try to visit a couple of different ballparks each summer - really looking forward to seeing it.

Who owns the leftovers?

First marriage - whoever ordered it - gets it.

Second marriage - if he wants it, he gets it. (I am a much nicer wife the second time around.)

Divorce does not necessarily mean that a person failed at marriage.

Thank you for the info. Had no idea about the politics of BF. Hmm.

Location is definitely part of the reasoning - we will be staying at the Renaissance on S 3rd and want something within walking distance or a short cab ride. Have heard some good things about BF and am intrigued by the tasting menu at Sanctuary. If there is something decidedly better in the area, please suggest it - especially if there is a tasting menu option. Thanks again.

Am visiting Minneapolis in June and staying downtown - no car. We plan to go to the Swedish Institute for a lunch and a Twins game. Am trying to choose between Bachelor Farmer and Sanctuary. If you very rarely visited the TC, what would you choose?

KC ~ did all the posters move?

For prime rib, Hereford House is hit or miss, J ALexanders and Houstons, while chains have been consistent. Chaz in the Raphael Hotel has a prime rib special on Sunday that I have always wanted to try. If you go there, can you report back?

Can yellow and orange bell peppers be substituted for green?

I always substitute red or orange peppers for green. Green peppers hurt my stomach.

good rub for beef

Thanks, I know how to google - was looking for actual recommendations.

good rub for beef

Anyone have a good recipe for a rub or a recommendation for a commercial rub that enhances real beef flavor - not hides it? I used Fatboy steak rub last weekend and it added a pastrami-like flavor to the meat.
Also, nothing too heavy with garlic - husband is sensitive. Thanks

Kansas City for one night

Thanks for posting your report. I live in KC and am looking forward to trying Charisse.

Story and Rye are both excellent local restaurants - solo dining probably better at Rye.

Question re Fort MyersFlorida

Randy's Fishmarket on the Tamiami Trail between Fort Myers and Naples is not fancy, but has a great variety of Florida fresh fish and excellent stone crabs in season. As the name implies, it is a fishmarket as well as a restaurant. My husband and I always go several times when we are in SW Florida.

Christmas dinner in Ft. Lauderdale?

I am not a local, so hopefully, others will chime in with great ideas, but my husband and I have stayed at the Marriott Harbour Beach (south of the Westin) a few times to escape our winters. Las Olas (a short cab ride away) has many restaurants - we love Johnny V's and Big City Tavern. I think Johnny V's is open - great Italian and seafood and you cannot beat the thrill of eating outside in the winter IMO.

What store bought food do you "doctor up"?

I buy Amy's frozen cheese pizza and add about 5 slices of provolone to it and bake it in a convection oven. Sometimes we then top it with drained canned pears - weird but really good.
